My nephew saw this on a trail cam at their cabin near Park Rapids Minnesota... do you think it's a wolf or coyote?

The Red Wolves released in Pungo National Wildlife Refuge in NC are now breeding with Coyotes.
Your picture is a Wolf, too far North for the Red or Hybrid version showing up here.

    Could also be somebody's dog...

Now I'm having flashbacks from my Ring Video door app. The ONLY thing people post are coyote video captures 24/7 lol

Wolves rarely travel alone. Dogs and coyotes do moreso. Were there more?

    #10 3 years ago

Too far North for a Chupacabra.

I'm going with Coyote. They are in full coat this time of year and often look way bigger than they are.

I’d say coyote...legs look way too short

    #12 3 years ago

I sent the picture to one of my large carnivore biologist buddies, and they think coyote too

    #13 3 years ago

It doesn't look like a coyote based on what I know.

Looks like a grey wolf, pretty common here in Minnesota.

    Coyote

They say if you question it...it’s a coyote.

    #19 3 years ago

It must not be a coyote, I don’t see any products from the Acme company.

Coyote for sure. Way too small to be a wolf. They are massive.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Looks like all the coyotes around here. The wolves I’ve seen are all noticeably larger than other canines.

Little small, and by looking at the tail, i'd say for sure it's a coyote. See them around here quite often..

Lemme ask my wife. She knows everything

    #32 3 years ago

I’d say it’s a Coyote. Could be a Coywolf, which are a little larger than a Coyote.

Here is a good pic showing how large they are. Wolf on the left, husky on the right.
