I am having massive problems with the mode start on my IJ right now.

I've just spent 2-3 hours bending the strike plate into a curve that the ball just slides under nicely, I have cut slots into the screw holes and moved the strike plate as far back as it will go... but it makes almost no difference at all.

I am going to try lowering the kickout mech with washers next

Quoted from Cliffy:

It's called a deflector and slotting the mount holes with a rat tail file allowing it to be moved further back seems to be one of the best solutions. While you have the deflector out use the opportunity to bend it back down a bit. Over time it gets hammered upwards which causes the ball to bounce straight back out. Bringing the angle back down directs the ball into the saucer.

I tried this one, I spent several hours on it in fact. No matter how I curved the deflector of where I positioned it (after cutting the slots) I could not get it to reliably stick the shot. I even tried putting foam on the deflector.

Quoted from markmon:

None of that works. Remove the strike plate and put the foam on the remaining rails. Guaranteed solved.

I have removed the deflector now and placed a square of blue rebound rubber at the back of the area in which the mode start hole sits. I have also lowered the mechanism by one washer width. The ball now sticks the shot 8 times out of 10. The best I could manage with the deflector in place was 1/2 out of 10

Only problem is the ball has smashed the opto on the right hand side of the mode start hole (for the light jackpot ramp)

Any chance Cliffy can make some Cliffy Opto Protectors?
