=== Game Code

* Attempt to kickstart Crystal Ball with every command sent now.
* Display bog removed when a LOT of replays/score awards are turned on.
* Capture Dorothy light now blinks when ball will be locked and is solid when
a ball is already locked and will kick out to upper playfield.

+ Tweet-your-game ability via QR code after game ends. Code only shows up
for 5 minutes after a game, but the timer will be reset if there's activity
on the flipper buttons.
+ Social media attract screen.
* Winkie VUK now scores during Haunted Holes. Sorry about that.
+ Multiball resurrection via starting a new multiball during grace period of
an exiting one, or via a grace period Glinda Add-a-Ball award. Melt the
Witch and Somewhere Over the Rainbow do not resurrect any multiballs. Melt
the Witch cannot be resurrected via Add-a-Ball, but SOTR can. No other
multiball can resurrect those 2. Everything else should resurrect
everything else.
+ Fireball Frenzy audits.
+ Fireball Frenzy extra balls. This is controlled by 4 new adjustments:
- "First Extra Ball at" sets the # of successful (blue) shots to light extra
ball. Default is 10, range is 5-25.
- "EB Shot Add Amount" sets how many shots get added to light the next extra
ball. Default is 5, range is 3-50.
- "Maximum FBF Extra Balls" sets how many EBs are allowed to be awarded by
Fireball Frenzy. Default is 5, range is 0-10. If set to 0, no extra balls
will be possible from Fireball Frenzy.
- "FBF Extra Ball Memory" sets whether a FBF lit extra ball will survive to
the next ball or not. Default is ON.
* Edited game credits.
* Significantly reduced HSTD minimums. Note that if you change these, you'll
need to do a Reset High Scores to make the changes show up.
* Ramp lock insert is now subject to light shows.
+ Glinda can now award Add-a-Ball during multiball. This will work only once,
but if a new multiball is started after collecting it, it will be available
again.
+ Glinda can now award Munchkin(TM) time.
* Glinda's "change horses" award now has priority over points.
+ HOADC audits.
+ HOADC extra ball. This is controlled by 2 new adjustments:
- "Horse Extra Ball Level" sets how many horses you need to collect
successfully to light extra ball. Default is 5, can be 4, 5, 6, 7 or OFF.
- "Horse Extra Ball Memory" sets whether extra ball stays lit after draining
or not. Default is ON.
* Munchkin Modes now have grace periods and can be resurrected by Glinda
during that time.
* OZ top lane display will not show up during ECMB now except to show a
completed bonus X award.
* Fixed a bug where ECMB might not be relightable.
* Fixed an issue where a Haunted Mode would be "forgotten" if the Haunted
skill shot was made while a Haunted Mode was already running. What happens
now is that you get 30s more Haunted time and 2 value increases for the
current mode.
* Fixed an issue where someone might not get to enter initials for starting
SOTR.
* Melt the Witch will now kill every running mode upon start.

=== Pindemption(TM) Code

I have not been the biggest superfan ever, but it is nice to see this sort of support so far after the release!

Looking forward to an afternoon update! Thanks.

Sorry Falcon. I don't have any available servers in your neck of the woods

If you have one that has an FTP server I would gladly upload the iso to it for you.

#11 3 years ago

Quick question. When you do the settings backup, will that save your highscores and initials in addition to settings?

#12 3 years ago

Im quite sure it does Goren.

#13 3 years ago

It's been a while since I've done a full update but everything went well

Good to hear. Took us a bit to get it out from when we first announced an update was coming but it needed to be right.

All good, The speed is all over the place, it was down to 13k/sec but now its at 1.3mb/sec which is pretty much my max.

For the Ruby Red machines, can the display chance from green to red in this update?

While I don't have Woz. It does seem like JJP is head and shoulders above Stern for code support, updates. Stern just gives up on games whenever they feel like, never mind bugs or unfinished wizard modes, no skill shots etc..

I know JJP has more time to mull over its games since its release schedule is one game every 2-3 years. But the fact remains that we have Stern games (while fun) are not as great as they could be since the code is not improved on after a certain point.

IMO this is one reason why I'm now quite hesitant to buy any Stern going forward.

Makes me want a WOZ even more than I already do. Maybe when I grow up and can afford it I'll get one.

#26 3 years ago

Thanks OP, downloaded and will put on my ruby red tomorrow

#27 3 years ago

Sweet, need to download tomorrow!

#28 3 years ago

For the UNETBOOTIN, are we supposed to run the .exe. file on our PC?

When I downloaded it put these files at the bottom corner. I also do not see the icon option in Step 3 so I assume that would happen after clicking the .exe file?

Capturewoz.JPG

#29 3 years ago

Is this a partimage that overwrites the boot sector?

#30 3 years ago
Quoted from PinballHelp:

Is this a partimage that overwrites the boot sector?

I don't know anything about it other than it says UNETBOOTIN is supposed to be used to move the files to the memory stick. I just don't want to mess up my PC hard drive doing something wrong, because I don't have time right now to deal with anything extra beyond putting the code in my game.
I definitely do not have that black icon the instructions show.

#31 3 years ago

Run unetbootin and just follow the directions exactly as they appear. I just finished the install and get to have a play now!

#32 3 years ago

Ok, it appears to have copied the files onto the flash drive. How do we save the settings in our game before loading the new code? I am pretty sure that is possible with this game for a delta, not sure about a full install.

#33 3 years ago

I know you can copy the settings but I didn't bother. Search the JJP help info though. I reckon I would give it a fresh start.

#34 3 years ago

Question: I purchased my RR in May. Since then, there has been at least one (maybe two) updates that I did not upload to my machine. Will using the link above give me the latest code (including the earlier summer updates)? Thanks in advance!

Yes, the link above is a comprehensive FULL update.

#36 3 years ago

....woot ..woot. Downloading tonight !!!

#37 3 years ago

Yes. It is a full install of everything. So for example if you ever had to replace your harddrive this would be what you would use. You just need a 32gb drive minimum.

Great points. I feel the same way. With Stern there is no guarantee how well a title will be supported code wise and that alone makes buying one of their games a risk. If a games sales are not great to Stern they typically don't offer deep / complete code for the game.

Also, even though some Stern games offer a good amount of modes it doesn't make them interesting. There's a big difference between deep code that is boring and deep code that offers unique / interesting rules.

Personally I think Keith Johnson and Ted Estes are creating the deepest and most interesting rules in pinball today. Thankfully JJP's CEO realizes the importance of deep / interesting code for his customers. Sterns CEO doesn't and therefore only some of their games are offered proper code support (often with programmers working off hours from what I read on here) while other games are simply not completed.

I've mentioned a few times that JJP games offer a lot of value and their commitment to code support only increases the value factor.

Not to beat a dead horse. I have XMLE and STLE and for the first 1 to 1.5 years the code was broken. Code was eventually fixed to be good, but if it had been an orphan game like WWE or Avengers who knows? Also the code is still not 100% done and may never be revisited even for known bugs. For example if the ball save kick back on STLE misses a save, the software can know this and just feed the ball back (a virtual save) but it doesn't.

We have a game like Tron which had great code and yet it was still given the tune up to spiff up the graphics and some rule corrections to tighten the game.

I can buy a game that can sit in my house for a decade. If there is a progressive code update and tightening of the code (even if it takes time) it would be a big deal for me, and my $7K machines.

I love IM and won't sell it. But there is a bit that could still be done to improve on the code to bring it up to Tron level.

I'm not saying any game code will ever be perfect, but Stern seems to think if it's OK than it's done. I'd rather see the bar set higher.

I do understand that Stern is coding for 3-4 games a year. And that they like to keep moving. But the pins in my house are here for the long haul. I'd prefer a bit more effort and a bit more code updates.

It's understandable from Stern's perspective that improving code is at the bottom of their to-do list. But there might come a time that OK code is not good enough for me to send any more $7K checks their way. I do like the games I have, but going forward with Spooky, JJP, Heighway (etc..) if they ever start producing games, Stern won't be the only game in town.

I'm sure Stern won't miss me. I'm just one person. But if others feel the same it could make an impact on their bottom line. I understand that polishing code for Stern means spending money. But IMO they need to do more in the code area.

And I am not anti-Stern. I own 7 Stern (down from 8 a few months ago) I bought XMLE, Tron, IMVE, and STLE all in the past 3 years. I'm sure there are much better customers than me. But I'm just saying that's 4 games $24K in the past 3 years.

Public Thanks to JJP. Jack, Keith, and all those involved!

Polishing a Gem even further, makes WOZ, a stellar product, and sets a new standard, IMO, of code and continued support.

We all know the reasons why some do not like the game, and it isnt even my most played game, but when its on, and a player has had the time to be good enough to get to the "next step", it becomes a unique and thoroughly challenging experience.
Its just harder to get there, then a 3 smack on wolverine in Xmen, and therefore so different then any Stern.

Thrilled to update, and start again.....nothing but several years of joy with this game!

.....and the value when looking at whats coming out these days......a masterpiece!

The 32GB requirement is for a replacement hard drive (if one is ever needed) that stays in the game.

#46 3 years ago

I just updated mine - thanks!! - and noticed one discrepancy: The capture Dorothy (TM) light does blink when capture is enabled but it did not go solid when the ball was captured, even when I had rescue lit and the castle doors open. Not a big deal, just thought I'd point it out.

Quoted from Pinchroma:

Capture Dorothy light now blinks when ball will be locked and is solid when
a ball is already locked and will kick out to upper playfield.

Also, I don't see it mentioned but the background and text at the bottom of the in-game screen changed to red for RR models (I only have RR so I don't know about ECLE or standard) which is awesome!

Turn on the game, put a thumbdrive into the USB cable that is cable tied to the coinbox, go into utilities and select backup/restore - follow the on screen instructions.

What size thumb drive do we need for the backup? I may need to buy another thumbdrive if it is above 2 GB.

Well, I did it...Now I just have to hope that it keeps working....
With my luck its all up in the air now...lol
