I have a Capt Fantastic that I am trying to get up and running. I was looking into another issue and noticed an unsoldered wire underneath the score motor. It's clear that this wire was never soldered from the factory. Is this common? Any danger in soldering it back? I'm assuming it worked before although it might have been missing some functionality.

My Captain Hook had a lamp where the power braid was never soldered to it. 5B64F3FE-6632-497C-A000-BA2842B86EB7 (resized).jpeg5B64F3FE-6632-497C-A000-BA2842B86EB7 (resized).jpeg
There were other wiring errors in the game that affected functionality. The errors looked like they were done at the factory, but I don’t know that for sure.

Yeah it must have been the same dude working over at Bally. He completely missed on connecting the ground braid to the incoming line on a Globetrotters machine. How is this not obvious?!

The manufacturers these days have really improved their craft.

It isn't easy. Yesterday like today, non pinball people man the assembly lines.

We see way less of things like this. Back in the day it was common. Once I even had a game with a whole row of light sockets missing. Wires were there. No sockets or bulbs.

When you get it up and running it would be interesting to know what was disabled by this loose wire and why it wasn't caught by anybody.

Any chance it's the Motor 3F switch (3rd stack from the motor, 6th switch from the bottom in the stack)?

If so the unused wire and solder tab is for the optional 2 Coins 3 Play relay that probably wasn't installed in your game.

Bally often used the same wiring bundle for different game variations which often meant a few unused wires tucked away and/or unused switches. Is there an extra white-orange wire or normally closed switch on the Ball Index relay?

It looks like it's the bottom switch on the fifth stack. Orange and white.

Yes, I too am working on a Captain Fantastic and have no white/blue wire at 6B on the score motor as the schematic indicates. No wire present and no sign anything has ever been soldered there. That switch involves the 300 points/3 bonus advance, yet the game now works correctly. Huh?

That's the lock in circuit for the 300 and 3 Advance relay. The relay is activated by a few rollover switches and should hold itself active through its own lock in switch until the Bonus advances three steps. Does your relay hold itself in while the bonus advances? Is there a white-blue wire on one of the normally open switches on the 300 and 3 Advance relay? Are you sure it's the 6B switch that's unused? My R&M had two coil lugs that were never soldered, just wrapped around the lug.
