I too am a sucker for a good cause and a really fun contest. Sent you money for two tickets as a gift so you don't have to pay the fees. Good luck to you Buddy. I really hope this works out for you bro.

    Quoted from StevenP:

Sure, easy for ignorant bystanders to say "let it go," but my comments are meant for the OP and Robin, who stand to be liable for these actions.

How exactly is Robin liable for anything? Are you saying Robin has personal liability of some kind for things posted here on Pinside?

*added in an edit for clarification purposes: note I am not disagreeing with Steve's post, just questioning one facet of it*

    Quoted from wdpvideo:

Get them Tiger! Do not let them rain on our parade

Actually, after looking at this, I think StevenP is correct on what he saying (other than Robin having liability - Pinside is not endorsing this event in any way and Robin isn't liable for what people post here [at least not in the US]).

Regardless of the legalities, the winner also needs to report the value of the machine as income as well by the way.

    Quoted from statsdoc:

Wouldn't you think he would have a potential liability if he is aware that this is occurring and does nothing to stop it ... if in fact it is illegal?

I don't see how he would in the US. See 47 USC 230 (federal/civil only); there has been a great deal of case law on the subject of web hosting and editing as well. I just don't see the personal liability for Robin in the US as a mere forum owner. That said, out of an abundance of caution I am going to lock this thread since I haven't a clue about the laws in Europe where they are stricter on edited forums and Robin is a European.

As a reminder, this was in no way a Pinside sanctioned event. As others have said, you are adults and can make your own decision on what you will and will not participate in; Pinside provides no advice to anyone on what they should or should not do. Have a good day.
