I just saw Dr_Gonzo's post, and a ban vote was given. Language like that and personal attacks will not be tolerated on Pinside. This is a reminder to everyone to please keep it civil and watch the language. This is a public forum, not your living room.

We dont use that language in our living room either.... I know, I know.... you don't have to chide me- I know manners are passé nowadays...

Any chance of making that mistake again?

It was pretty peaceful around here for those couple of days

Teekee's account was closed by mistake. It was then re-opened. He was never booted, or even temporarily banned for that matter.

Dude...exactly! Or Death of Superman comics? Or Spawn #1? Or Erin the Bear Beanie Baby? Or maybe a Jose Canseco Rookie Card?

Let me ask you this? If you paid for a LE only to have it pulled from you & then come on here & see someone who bought an LE just to flip it for a higher priced pin how would you feel? Just Curious

That's not Jim's problem. That wasn't his fault. He had the same risk. You win some and you lose some. We can't all be winners all of the time. Be a man and take your lumps. I know Jim very well, you don't. And I know he has done well at times but also lost out on others. Just like all of us... this is LIFE!

I can understand people's frustrations with the situation that Stern has created and its important to remember Stern has created this issue. I don't fault the guy for trading his pin. Hell I would love to do the same thing. Actually turn a pin into an investment and trade it for a machine that I thought was unobtainable. I would love a BBB but I'll never be able to drop that cash on one.

I feel the same way many do. Many people want bottom dollar when they purchase and then when they sell they expect to make a pile of cash.

I never hear this much hate and venom for those that sell MM's, AFM and others at much inflated prices. Everyone just moves on and excepts that these are the new prices for these machines.

Its all about who you know. There is no level playing field when you are talking about something that is in short supply. If this person has a personal relationship with the Distro then I would expect they would get preferred treatment. I don't know any of the parties personally but I bet he buys machines from the distro in volume and pays a fair price each time. The Distro would be silly to bite the hand that feeds them over and over.

I know if I had someone who gave me business over and over, year after year; they would get first crack at machines and when push came to shove I would work to keep that person happy. They buy in volume and it sounds like here they buy some titles that haven't appreciated in value. So this time they got a title that looks like a winner, good for them. They win one and that's only if they can work a deal out. So far I don't believe he has struck a deal for his machine.

Again from what I'm reading this is an issue Stern has created on this title and its an issue the collective has created because they know we speak with our wallets. You think this issue goes away with ST 2013? It will if they make 1000-2000 LE's and then its no longer an LE. People will know they can wait to play it first before pulling the trigger.

I'm in for a MMOP. If my guy calls tomorrow and says sorry there are some issues and I can't deliver I will be bummed but what can you do. Will I reconsider using that person in the future to avoid another issue? Maybe.

In the end its only pinball and its not like your money is taken and you don't get it back. You will receive a full refund.

Try the stock market. Yesterday your investment was worth $8K and today its worth $6K. Your broker won't give you the difference back.

I'm just glad the premium exists so everyone has a chance to purchase a machine with all the features. Besides some artwork..... and again that is really all we are talking about is an artwork package that is the difference between the two.

just my 2 cents in a sea of nickels and dimes

I personally don't think Dr_Gono should be banned. Has he already been warned before? Was he out of line in his comment? Sure he was (though I did admittedly get a chuckle out of it) but, we all get a little emotional here at times and say something we shouldn’t. His posts are a little in your face at times but, that’s just him. The different personalities here is one of the things that makes this little forum cool. Anyway, not that it matters, just my 2 cents worth.

He was not banned. He merely received a ban vote. It takes three votes by three different moderators to be banned. I generally warn someone first, but this particular post was so flagrantly profane and mean spirited that I felt it warranted an immediate ban vote.

#112 11 years ago

ChrisS> the difference between MM and AFM selling for higher prices is that many of those sellers actually bought the game to play it and not just to flip it NIB for a quick buck. Heck, many of those people may have put a bunch of time and $$$ into fixing up their game before they sold it for more than they bought it.

Seems like the OP is good friends with a distro and they have a little system worked out where he gets to buy games at a good price and then sell them for more to others (when the title is hot). This keeps the distro safe from the potential wrath of the manufacturer if they were to find a distro flipping games for more than expected. Nice little gig they have going if you are more concerned with making a buck than anything else.

I do find it funny that the OP justifies his actions by saying how he 'let' his other games go back to his distro buddy. Just because you helped someone else get a game does not mean it is ok to try an take advantage of someone else.

If you actually bought the game to play, then you would be doing just that. If you were selling it after you opened it and decided you did not like it, then no worries.

If you really wanted to help out the community, then you would be handing this game back over to your distro so he could help out an actual player/collector/metallica fan that really wants to own the LE version bump got 'bumped'.

Basically what I am saying is >> man up and acknowledge that this is about you making a quick buck and has nothing to do with you buying the game originally for yourself but then magically deciding you may not want to keep it (now that the hype has jacked up the price).

#113 11 years ago

Dealt with Jim in past. It was my first nib purchase and I was easy pickins if he wanted to take advantage of me. I was treated fairly and got to play some cool pins as well.

#115 11 years ago

What I don't get...
How the heck is he taking advantage of someone if he is offering up his game to someone who may want it in trade for a machine Jim may want?
You people are get a little crazy caring so much want others so with their own money. Let it go already. We are all adults here right? Not a single one of us is going to make pinball any less expensive so get over it. Jim bought the game and may offer it up anyway he wants to. Move on already.

Valid point there. I think that one thing to remember here is that if you want to post something up for sale/trade and avoid ridicule, list it in the market section. Posting here is open season for price police, pumpers, ect.

#117 11 years ago

I don't care about what he does with it my only issue is this good ole boys club that takes care of it's own and gets the pre orders ready waaaaaay prior to the players even getting a decent shot at one and Stern doesn't care if the players/collectors/fans get raked over the coals because of these back room deals.

Stuff like this is the reason our country is in the shitty shape it's in... greed !

I think in this case its not even that. If they sell out they sell out. You go to buy one and no link works and the Distro says sold out. Ok, find a flipper and pay what you want. Thats how it works.
In this case people paid and had games yanked. So it not waah waah, its WTF!
Abd thats why people are really pissed and yes Jim put a big target up on the wrong day up. Does not make him a bad guy just bad timing in a big mess.
Teekee I love you man but seriously there are right and wrong times and when paying customers find out others got theirs some angers gonna fly. You cant discount human emotion.
That being said its a day later and Jims an allright guy and Stern came out with some cool games.
Sounds like Jims may be worth trading for to someone and the rest of us should go pick out a Premium and shut up : )

This happens everyday in everyway in this country and the rest of the world.

Life isn't fair.

He could ask $10k for it right now after was has happened with the LE's. And I bet it will sell.

Seems like everyone is ok with high pin prices when it's in their favor.

#120 11 years ago

So, if he offered to trade it for, say a Medieval Madness, he'd still be a villain?

Or, would be the MM seller be the bad guy? Why him? Well, geez, a MM brand new only cost about $3000. Oh its WORTH more? and you say the MM owner wants more?

Figuring out the "bad guy" gets tricky, eh?

Sadly it's not restricted to your country alone. It's human nature i'm afraid. We're greedy little buggers!
Who here can really say that they have never been greedy with something?Like with money, or when you go eating for example. Why do you think those "all you can eat" restaurants are so popular?
Greed goes further then with money alone.

Stupid real world!

Greed is good.

If it weren't for Greed no one would have ventured out of their caves and huts...

The reason most countries are in bad shape are not because of the GREED of those who want to spend their hard=earned $$$ on what they want. It's mostly the opposite.... its the "Have-nots" demanding they get something for nothing (free healthcare, welfare, handouts, MetLE vouchers, etc, etc). And the liberal govt' tripping over themselves to give these whiners exactly what they want....

#124 11 years ago

Cheese sales across the country have to be up with the increasing amount of whining just on pinside alone. Soon the govt will be involved with bailouts for the whiners.

Good golly, it's only pinball.

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good.
Greed is right.
Greed works.
Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.
Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind.
And greed -- you mark my words -- will not only save Stern Pinball, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.

Thank you very much.

Just seems like a strong statement. I assume you have some inside knowledge that this is what is being done?

If you really wanted to help out the community, then you would be handing this game back over to your distro so he could help out an actual player/collector/metallica fan that really wants to own the LE version bump got 'bumped'.

Well then I'm hoping someone will sell me an SS for the $3000.00 since it originally released for that price and I missed out on purchasing it at that price point. I think he did do something for everyone. He could have held onto all of them.

Basically what I am saying is >> man up and acknowledge that this is about you making a quick buck and has nothing to do with you buying the game originally for yourself but then magically deciding you may not want to keep it (now that the hype has jacked up the price).

I understand what your saying and agree it would be nice if it was just a forsale / for trade advert and that spoke for itself but with the onslaught of people's comments that follow every forsale advert I can understand why someone would take a different approach.

Again he made an investment of HIS money and correct me if I'm wrong he is looking for a trade. He like everyone else out there could have easily just sent this to eBay and sold it for cash. Instead he wants to trade it for a title he can't get his hands on.

I understand the timing sucks but what about those that are selling AC/DC's for close to $10k. That machine is less than 12 months old. I would think this would be in bad taste as well and shouldn't people pile on anyone who sells a NIB for a profit? They kept that machine from others that wanted it. Others had to take pro Trons and premium AC/DC's because people were holding onto the NIB's.

This is an unfair statement - both to Jim and Trent. Although I have not bought from Jim. I have requested and received quotes from him. His prices has always been more than competitive and fair. Even his past for sale threads are competitive.

Also, if you look at his post history, he has sought the requested titles in trades before. It makes perfect and logical sense to make this trade request. He has a sought after title that holds less value to him personally than the requested trade titles. Why not ask for this trade? Even if he sold this for a profit to buy some other pin or something else he wanted, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I understand someone's frustration that they thought they had a MOPLE from their distributor and now don't. But your frustration is misdirected at Jim. He has nothing to do with that.

Limited availability is the nature of collectible items. If the "play" aspect of Mettalica pinball is the most important thing to you, then the premium version should satisfy your purposes. If you want the LE because of its collectible and limited nature, then there are current and will be future opportunities to acquire one - at whatever the market price is. I am sure people negotiate with distributors and NIB sellers like Jim to pay as little as possible for XM, TFLE and Avengers citing market price.

Let me clarify. I didn't say you had poor taste. I think the trade post was in poor taste...of course, not intentionally cuz I know you're a good dude. I'm saying I have empathy for the people who REALLY want this game and were shut out for one reason or another. Just put yourselves in their shoes for a moment...if this was your dream theme and you had sent a check...DENIED! Then someone's posting theirs for trade already. It hurts. Again - not intentionally...but just see it from their perspective. I think if you made a trade post once the game came out - no one would care....people are just really sore over the situation at this moment, that's all.

I agree with that. My point is dont confuse general anger with directed anger. This happens in our lives as well. Our friend or spouse has a bad day and goes off and we are so worried about us when its not us.
Its not about Jim and yes an apology would be in order but hopefully he knows its anger at a Fd up sales stratagy.

Im trying to understand why its ok and a lot of GLWTS follows on people selling their WOZ, and we know the preorder price was lower than what they are selling for. But its not OK to do it on this title already, this game will be in your house sooner.

I for one thought the "vulgar" post was funny. For a guy to get THAT angry over a "toy" in my mind is crazy. Especially when you can buy one that has the same game play and features for a bit less. The guy was just mad that he wasn't the one turning a profit. It's that simple and pretty funny to me. First world problems. Just laugh at the post and move on. No need to take it too seriously. How about the other pins he bought over the years where he lost money on? I'm sure no one stepped up and said they'll give him what he paid for it so he didn't lose money. Some he makes out on, some he doesn't. This one he will.

Bottom line is that I'll bet 9 out of 10 would do the same thing if they were in his position/situation.

No mod here tolerates "disgusting hate speech" and no mod appreciates you making completely bogus accusations simply to stir the pot.
