I have a friend of mine that is having me work on his pinball machine down in his basement. It is a williams Toledo pinball. The game was working just fine and then all of a sudden the machine would not recognize the ball drain. I checked the switch and it looks good. I put the game in game over manually and tried to start a new game and the replay button does not work either. I just wondered if anyone might have a idea what might cause the machine not to recognize ball drain and also not let you start a game if you put it in game over. Thanks

It doesn't recognize any drains? Does it have a ball trough relay, and if so, you checked that?

You can also manually push in the reset relay to see if the machine will reset... If the machine resets after you manually push in the reset relay, then there would be an issue with the circuit that contains the credit button switch. Do you have the schematic for the machine?

Yes I do have the schematics. Problem is there has been coffee spilled on it at some time. They are readable but its hard in places. I did hit the reset relay and it started resetting the machine. Nothing with the replay button and if ball drains if you are in game mode.

So, ball drains and ball count advances?

#6 6 years ago

No if ball drains it does nothing. Ball just sets there.

Have you tried to manually push the contacts together on that ball drain switch? They might have gone slightly out of alignment.

Could the score motor have stopped short of the home position?
I had a Gottlieb that used to do that now & then.

Reach in and manually give the score motor a spin.

Going back: is there a ball trough relay there with a few switches? One probably goes to the Outhole relay and/or Lock relay, and those switches all affect things, such as the Ball Count unit. I wish I had a schematic.

Yeah that's the thing I am not with the machine. It is at his house so I am trying to get all the ideas I can so I can check a bunch of stuff when I go back over there. I could try to post certain parts of the schematic if I needed to. Thanks

Quoted from pinballman3:

How about making it easy for us to help you? Scan it at Staples for $2 and post it to

If you have a multi-meter, you can check to see if there is 24 volts at the start button switch. This can help determine what side of the circuit might be causing the problem. Also, you can check the credit unit zero break switch to see if it's clean and adjusted properly...

Hi pbm3 -
hi pinsiders willing to help - want to look-at / download my first PDF - a (partially) schematics. This my first PDF is a compilation of an PDF You can see here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/toledo-stuck-on-ball-1#post-2795748 - I have put together the six pages to make my incomplete schematics.

pbm3 - when You want to help --- look at my second PDF --- it is much the same as the first one --- I have addded "green lines" what I believe is in the schematics - with "red rectangles" I marked the areas that are missing --- do You want to show us (JPG) the missing areas ?

I was working in MS-Paint, JPG to put the pieces together - then made an PDF (2.8 MB data) - then used an PDF-Reducer - the result (first PDF) is quite good --- because I put colored lines in the schematics: To make the second PDF I had to use "much more reducing means much less quality". Greetings Rolf
