I'm working on the display board. I mistakenly installed the wrong chip in the IC 9 socket and smoked it.
I got the right chip in today and installed. Now I'm blowing the 1/4 amp HV display fuse.
No doubt I took something else out when the wrong chip fried.Just don't know where to look.
The fuses doesn't blow when the board is disconnected.
Any help appreciated

which IC9 did you replace?

the one on the master display assembly?

what was happening before the IC swap/misfit?

what IC did you put in place of the hex inverter?

may have caused either /both IC 7 & IC 12 to short 90V to ground?
could try lifting leg 10 from each and seeing if fuse still goes open?

I had segment E out on 1&2 player and the master display(ball count/match)
So after checking resistors I decided to change IC9 (segment driver for effected boards)
I apparently put in a udn6140 instead of the udn7180.
It smoked.
I put in a udn7180 and now I'm blowing 1/4 amp fuses. The short is ssomewhere on the board. It being unplugged-the fuses doesn't blow.
Anyway-haste makes waste. I have another board coming, but I still want to fix this board, and eventually just get all new displays and driver.

i'd get a data sheet for IC's 7 & 12 and test them/replace them, as they are after the IC9 in the circuit.

so you thinking of going LED displays?

Eventually. I did with my Black Knight and new match/ball count display in my Bobby Orr power play. I believe it was a wolf kit.
You have any preferences?

There is a guide on pinWiki to test the UND chips with a meter

I have Wolffpac displays and reckon they are the best, just a personal opinion due to the through hole circuit boards, angled LED digits to mimic the original look with commas instead of dots, foam overlays for displays, quality of product, ease of putting together, perfection packaging for postage and excellent communication.
