Quoted from E_Tenn_Pinball:I just obtained a Firepower with a display problem I'm trying to figure out.
Players 1 and 3 display fine.
For player 2,
the hundred-thou = correct on player 2 display
ten-thou = correct on player 2 display
thous = displayed correctly, but in the units of the credit display on the master
hund = displayed correctly, but in the tens of the credit display on the master
tens = displayed correctly but in the units of the player 2 display
units =always zero as it should be but located in the tens of the player 2 display
For player 4, the issue is identical except there the thous and hund are not shown on the master display, the information is just missing.
If you play a 1 player game the credit display will remain 00 as it should. Unplugging the 1-4 displays has no effect on the error. There are no other issues with the game and everything else appears to work fine.
Before I dig further into the master display, I was wondering if this is possibly a problem of information being fed to the master, or if it's more likely a problem with the master. I unfortunately do not have access to another master to swap out and check real quick.
Any help would be appreciated.
If you have access to an EPROM programmer and a 27C16 28C16 chip, you can try the test ROMs I wrote.
Specifically, "07-displays" will show different test patterns on all the displays at the same time. Based on what you see, it may help you narrow down the problem.
If you don't have a programmer and chip, you can try http://hobbyroms.com. Just refer them to the pincoder link below and order the chips you want. Their rates are pretty decent, and their guarantee is great.
You can download all of the ROM images and descriptions in a single zip file from here: http://pincoder.reversion.ca
There is also a thread on this site where you can leave some feedback: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/new-williams-system-6-in-game-test-roms
