Hello all,

I'm trying to narrow down an issue I'm having with a Williams High Speed I just picked up. I tested the voltages out of the power supply and I'm getting my 5V, 12V and 100V where I'm supposed to but the display looks either TOO filled in or not at all. I'm not sure if this display is outgassed or if it's a fixable component issue with the driver board maybe?

The pic is actually what it looks like (not the camera/refresh timing).

Thanks!

Post a pic of the battery area of your mpu

A bad ribbon cable from the MPU to the distribution board will also cause segments to randomly come one. Try re-seating it, and wiggling it and seeing if the number of lit segments change.

I reseated all the cables and it still looks the same. Here’s a pic of the battery area (I already cut out the original holder).

Just in case anyone else stumbles upon this in their searches...

I ended up having to replace most of the resistors in this column of the display driver board. Apparently these were too corroded from a leaky battery at one point (or something else?) because they’re directly across the backbox inside.

Anyway, 30+ year old displays look great now!
