Did you check the coils to make sure they are working? It wouldn't surprise me if they were burnt up. If one gets stuck, the other pulling/pushing has more than enough power to break the crank arm. On mine, the only thing working in both heads was red's left right eye movement. All but one of ted's eye coils were fried and there was one blown trace on the driver board shorting the eyelids close coil to 70v, they glued Ted's eyes in place and removed Red's eyelids.
Also, with Ted being such a PITA to get to, I would really suggest replacing all his coils while you're in there, really cheap insurance. Even if they look OK, you can use them as spares for Red, since you don't have to disassemble half the play field to get her out.
