There are reports of people having issues with wiring melting due to the fact there is no inline fuse between the transformer and the 2 bridge rectifiers. Is it common for the bridge rectifiers for this machine to fail? Is it due to age, or from usage?

Yes electrolytic capacitors are first to fail because of age, the second is bridge rectifiers or diodes.
Not fuse protecting the bridges just after the transformer secondary windings was a engineering mistake for Williams.

This is a required upgrade. http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Williams_System_9_-_11#Bridge_Rectifier_Fuses

Note the inkochnito bridge board does the same thing and replaces the filter cap at the same time.

NOTE: I think you can buy direct from him on pinside.

+1 for the inkochnito bridge board. Easy to install and adds leds indicators for power.

Thanks, I'll contact him.
