A good way to approach a machine with multiple problems is to work on one problem at a time. And I'll work on the easiest problem first. So, in this case I would start troubleshooting the issue with the 1000 point chime. Sometimes when you fix one problem, it will also fix other problems with the machine. And using a schematic will make all the repairs go a lot faster...
