game will play and finish 5 balls and light up "game over", but still spits out a ball to play?? thinking something with the ball count unit, but not totally sure?

Update thread title so it will catch more attention. I only clicked on here to see what you were talking about because I have the game.
Maybe something like ‘Olympic Hockey ejects ball after game ends’ or something like that. It could be a fix that pertains to many EM’s and will get noticed easier. Good luck!
Quoted from Garrett:I’m on my phone and can’t get a link.
Use the search for Williams Game Over Extra Ball
searched but didn't find anything that looked like what i wanted?

Does it do this repeatedly after the same game?
This is from the manual - Ball Count Unit info:
OH ball count unit (resized).JPG
And this is from the schematic - showing how the "Game Over (Trip)" relay is supposed to energize:
OH Game Over Trip relay (resized).JPG
I guess if your "Game Over" light is coming on, the "Game Over (Trip)" relay must be firing.
Quoted from HowardR:Does it do this repeatedly after the same game?
yes. anytime a game is finished and last balls drains
thank you everyone. great info to start with. will try and get to it and dig in this weekend and report back!
Quoted from Mikala:Check this switch on the score motor. Cam #1 switch “A”. It should be open upon rest, if it is to close together or stuck close, it will eject an extra ball at game over.[quoted image]
I had this same problem with my Olympic Hockey and I think this was the fix? I just can't remember as I had several little issues and end up just looking at the schematics and cleaning and adjusting one thing after another until I worked out the bugs.
On mine at end of last ball it would kick the ball back out in to the shooter lane, but the game truly was over.
I know I did some cleaning on the score motor and the ball count unit just can't 100% remember what the end fix was.
Quoted from paulace:Here's the Game Over relay from the manual - are all the switches clean and opening/closing as they should?[quoted image]
got into this and yes; the game over trip IS energizing thus lighting up the game over light. all the other contacts on that relay seem to be making contact and wiping the other switch when the trip engages. gave them a quick burnish but had no luck; after ball 5 is drained and game over lights up, it still kicks out a ball and you can continue playing, scoring, and flippering
Quoted from Mikala:Check this switch on the score motor. Cam #1 switch “A”. It should be open upon rest, if it is to close together or stuck close, it will eject an extra ball at game over.[quoted image]
checked this; gap is plenty sufficient
Quoted from HowardR:This switch on the Game Over relay should prevent the Outhole relay from activating

traced this down and as all switches on the game over relay appeared to be in working order; i blocked this switch that you called out, with a piece of paper to ensure the circuit was blocked no matter what state of play. hit the credit button and start a new game and it still plays, scores, and flippers. how is this possible with that switch blocked with paper?
Quoted from vipertblck:how is this possible with that switch blocked with paper?
Not possible if the game is wired like the schematic says. Someone may have run another wire to bypass this switch. You can try blocking these switches to narrow down where that might have happened.
interesting update here. with ball 5 drained and game over illuminated, game still spits out a ball to play and you can score and use flippers. if i turn the cabinet switch off underneith and turn it back on, all lights (playfield and head) are off but the flippers and playfield switches/targets are still active, even with all lights off....somehow it seeems anytime the cabinet switch is on, the playfield is live (sometimes with lights, sometimes without).

blocked those 2 switches with paper, as well as the game over "A" and game still plays and scores. guessing there's a jump somewhere in this game that someone put in aftermarket in order to keep the playfield live at all times, and continue scoring, flipper action, and outhole operation?
another discovery here, not sure if it's tied to never ending balls once game is over. the tilt switches don't work, they just trigger the tilt relay when they switch is closed, but as soon as the contacts open, the tilt relay releases. so i can bang the pendulum and as it "smack smack smack's" the outter ring as it sways, that will tap tap tap the tilt relay. same with the playfield tilt switch, i can close those with my finger and it holds the tilt relay, as soon as i let go and the contacts open, the relay lets go. the coin door slam switch has the wires broken off; i assumed that wouldn't be an issue as it's just preventing the circuit from being closed thus engaging the tilt relay? maybe this will help progress the fix to this game, not sure?
If you turn the game off say on ball 2 then turn it back on does it keep playing on ball 2 as if you never turned the game off? I had this in a game it was some sort of operator hack.
Quoted from PoBoyPinball:If you turn the game off say on ball 2 then turn it back on does it keep playing on ball 2 as if you never turned the game off? I had this in a game it was some sort of operator hack.
no. it will turn on and have "game over" lit up, showing no balls in play. but you can still shoot and score
Here is why I ask I know this is not a Williams game but wonder if you have the same type of issue a contact that is always closed?
Quoted from vipertblck:game will play and finish 5 balls and light up "game over", but still spits out a ball to play?? thinking something with the ball count unit, but not totally sure?
Check to make sure all contacts on the game over relay are making correct contact. Suppose it could be the ball contact unit by likely you have a contact that is not closing all the way. Could also be loose screws on the switchstack for the game over relay.
checked everything that was suggested here. cant figure it out. im out of options and gave up and am selling the game
made some more progress. seems the problem is the AB switch or relay. there's 2 coils on it, one of which is a trip. the NON trip coil is trying to energize and pull in but it's not quite making it all the way. when i do it with my finger it locks in and score motor stops spinning and game starts. my thoughts are what energizes this coil, because im guessing it's dirty contacts or a bad connection thus not enabling the coil to get enough juice to completely pull the switches in

got carried away and posted in wrong group. i fixed it. sorry. one thing i've found out here was anytime the cabinet switch it turned on, BEFORE HITTING THE CREDIT BUTTON and all lights are still off, it energizes the game over trip coil, and the center bumper relay coil. thinking that's somehow part of my issue with the playfield always live and always spitting out balls.
the black wires coming up look like they've been tampered with and soldered too. is this normal? the un-insulated wire runs down the whole bank of relays and has a red and a white wires feeding on the "on yellow" relay, but then these 2 blacks jump in out of the harness and into the center bumper relay

In my old Williams ems, I think the game over should trip the tilt relay too which shuts off playfield power.
Have you checked the tilt relay? It's prolly in the same bank with the game over.

Here’s mine

damn. guess it is normal. your doesn't energize that coil when you flip the cabinet switch on though, does it?

No I don’t think so. It doesn’t do anything when first turned on until I hit left flipper. Mine is currently out of service so I can’t verify that

I’ll try to help with my game tomorrow.
I forgot I have pinball tonight at a friends after work so it will be tomorrow before I can fire up my Olympic hockey
GAME IS FIXED!! after looking at jaydee's photo he posted in comparison to mine, i saw he didn't have a non insulated wire to the left of the center bumper relay, mine did. removed that to the relay to the left of the center bumper relay and boom, game plays perfect and KEEPS ball 5 after it's drained and kills the playfield targets!
