My display started showing vertical lines through it. I read that it was likely a problem with the actual display so I bought another one, plugged it in and I still have the same problem. Does this mean that the ribbon cable is bad? What else could cause this?

I don’t see anything burnt. I tried to get good pics of the board. Do you see something wrong with it?

Quoted from Jmckune:

What does the display itself look like? Can you get a good picture of that?

This is the one I removed. I bought a newer pulled from working one and it does the same thing.

I replaced the cable with a new one from Marco and still have the same issue.

Pins are unbent. Board looks ok. The lines are always there even if I wiggle them.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

Well, do you have some place you can test that PinLED DMD controller, maybe a friend's game? That is the next suspected cause of failure.
Oh, before you worry about that, can you press on all the parts on the MPU that are in IC sockets?

Thank you so much. I ended up pushing on all of the connectors and socketed chips on the main board and then the problem went away. Freaking awesome you’re just freaking awesome thank you both so much for helping me!
