Frustrating. Swinger was my first pin. When I got it the match unit was stuck. When I sprayed some electronic cleaner on it... it started to move but would get stuck later. So I was like - i need to clean it because it is sticking. I cleaned it thoroughly one day. But it stuck after a while. I added some pinball lube... but it would still eventually stick. I wondered it it was that the coil was not pulling it all the way regularly. I haven't replaced the coil yet.

Now I am working on a Toledo. Same thing. Match unit was not moving. So I cleaned it really good and it moves fine. If I use my finger it does not stick at all. But then when it plays it will start and stop. Sometimes it will not work at all. Sometimes it looks like the coil is only pulling up half way and not able to turn it.

Question for those that have many Williams EMs... is this a unit that has problems a lot? Does it sound like the coil? Does this particular coil wear out easier? Seems odd that it would... but it is weird that I have two machines that seem to be doing the same thing.

Quoted from bonzo71:

The issue is not the coil.

It may be best to clean your stepper based on the details here: http://www.pinrepair.com/em/index2.htm#steps

I only use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning steppers and a small amount of dielectric grease on the rivets. Along with the cleaning suggestions in pinrepair.com, you can clean the metal plungers with q-tips dipped in isopropyl alcohol.

If the pivot points of the stepper arms sluggish, make sure they get clean. I've had a couple stubborn pivot points that only freed up after spraying a small amount of brakleen.

Thanks. I have done all this.

Except the brakleen. I don't see how the pivot points are the issue... they seems as free moving as they possibly can be.
