would Williams legs work on a bally pinball like six million dollar man . i recently got a six million dollar man pinball that needs legs and was going to spray paint them red to match the cabinet. would Rust-Oleum paint+primer work well? i was going to get the bally raw legs but Marco pinball does not have any. they have only the Williams ones . do raw legs work better for spraying over or will chrome/grey legs work?

Are you thinking Williams legs of the same era, then yes they would work. 28.5 inches long.

yes , its Williams legs from the same era , thanks for confirming.

I do not recommend you spray chrome legs. Use the raw legs. Prep is everything. Clean with acetone at least 2 times with different rags. Prime with clean metal primer from rust oleum and use the rust oleum professional gloss red (assuming you want gloss). Project farm on youtube has done some side by side tests (not totally scientific but close enough) and the best paint was the rust oleum professional. When you bolt the legs on I would recommend the nylon washers that go on between the bolt and leg so you don't jack up your nicely painted legs. Sold by Pin Monk or Pinball Life. All that said, powder coating is a much better way to go if you can swing it.

this should work right?

i don't have the equipment to power coat and no one makes bally legs in red.

Yes. The 2x is pretty good stuff. You need to prime bare metal.

You can buy new Bally grey (standard and correct colour) legs from Pinball Life for around $70.

thanks for the help . would one coat of paint be enough or do two just to be sure there is enough on it?

If you buy those new ones, you don’t need to do anything to them.

They’re powdercoated dark grey. Same as they were in 1978.

maybe i might go with the powder coated dark grey since they would match the original ones
or chrome ones to match the other shiny metal parts.
been thinking on it more and decided since the cabinet on mine is a bit more faded so the red legs wont match anyway.
only reason i wanted to do red legs was because i saw these pictures of one that someone did to theirs.
i thought it looked good but you can let me know what you think about it.

Everyone has their own tastes. I prefer to keep everything as original as possible.

okay , i think i will get the powder coated dark grey, since i plan on keeping else original as possible on this pinball anyway.
as for led bulbs , warm white would match the original color of the bulbs right ?

Comets RETRO frosted bulbs in warm white are great for GI in those games.

For your controlled lamps (the ones under the playfield) remember that LEDs will flicker unless you:

A/ install a new lamp board ($100)
B/ get some LED adapter boards ($50)
C/ wire a resistor across every lamp socket
D/ replace all the lamp sockets with new YOPPSICLES (or similar) with a resistor built in.

I’m going with the D option these days. Takes a while to do, but then it’s done.

PS another vote for grey legs on your game

Original legs were not powder coated but rather painted a charcoal grey color. The color varied slightly from year to year.

i might go with the YOPPSICLES . even though it means soldering every one of them up it would be a good replacement for the old sockets and will have properly working leds without needing a adapter or new lamp board. it seems to also be cheaper overall too.

It is cheaper. Half the sockets in those old games are stuffed - and they are now $3 each.

Add a bulb … 60c …

Then whatever resistor/board you’re using

Yoppsicles are $1 each.

Makes good sense.
