Hi pinsiders
in a german forum is a discussion "Did Williams manufacture "Jackpot" http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=1279 with posts above the flipper fingers" ? - Or "Did Williams ... without ..." ?
On "Jackpot" there is NOT a note written in ipdb - but on Klondike ("1-Player-Version") http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=1388 it is written " ... Williams closed the gaps by adding posts."

So, do YOU have a Jackpot "NO HOLES DRILLED near the flipper-fingers" ? Greetings Rolf

#2 8 years ago

Rolf,

The one Jackpot I have seen had the openings above the flippers, similar to Doodle Bug and the playfield picture on ipdb.org.

No posts, if there are posts installed it is always afterwards.
It takes a different approach playing with this kind of layout, a lot of people didn't like it and added a post between the slingshot and flipper.
I never did, like it the way it is.

Rolf,

I don't own this game and haven't seen it but it looks like the holes were made so you can add posts if you want.

Interesting game. Looks like a "slot machine" pinball.

Hi there
ipdb Jackpot: http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1279&picno=11409 - posts
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1279&picno=11410 not on the picture
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1279&picno=58428&zoom=1 no posts - BUT drilled holes
Notes: Nothing written about posts <-> no posts - Jackpot was for "Export" while Gold Rush was for USA (?)

ipdb Goldrush: Notable Feature: ... a gap - NO Posts !!! , http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1036&picno=1009 maybe drilled holes ?
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1036&picno=42052 drilled holes
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1036&picno=42054 drilled holes
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1036&picno=58295 drilled holes

ipdb Klondike: Notes: ... this time the gap is closed by posts !!!
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1388&picno=1337 posts
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1388&picno=15775 posts
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1388&picno=25426 posts

ipdb Yukon (Add-A-Ball): no text about
http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=2829&picno=2704 posts

I did a search in pinballowners.com, 32 machines listed, 9 machines with pictures:
-> a strange pin: http://www.pinballowners.com/jukeboxflipper#54752 -> he writes Manufacturer is "Elettro Coin, Italy" -> search in ipdb: http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?gtype=EM&mfgid=113&sortby=name&searchtype=advanced -> company is known, BUT NOT this pin ...
-> here - questionable: http://www.pinballowners.com/unigroove#39548 holes drilled - OR NO HOLES DRILLED ???
I found ONE picture (questionable: http://www.pinballowners.com/unigroove#39548 holes drilled) -
ALL OTHER pictures show posts or "drilled holes"

So the question is:
Export-Jackpot WITH Posts (unfortunately not mentioned in ipdb) - Domestic-Gold-Rush WITHOUT Post (as mentioned in ipdb, a GAP).
Until somebody comes up with a "Factory-Original-NO-HOLES drilled": I say: Gold-Rush "GAP" / other versions "Posts". Greetings Rolf

I repaired quite a lot of these games, most of them without the posts had no predrilled holes.
The ones with the post where always afterwards put there.
I worked for an operator for a few seasons and he told me that they put the posts in afterwards if the clients where unhappy with the game.
He had about seven Jackpots/Goldrush pinballs and three of them had those posts.
Only difference on Jackpot and Goldrush are the jackpot symbols and the backglass.
A few pictures on ipdb are taken by me, and I have another Jackpot waiting for restore.

Hi wizardblom
thanks for Your writing "wizardblom has worked in business at the time (in Netherlands) and has seen several "Jackpot" pins coming from the factory WITHOUT POSTS / (without) DRILLED HOLES" - a clear fact.

So I come to the question: "Why did Williams has made Gold Rush <-> Jackpot ?" The only difference I see are the symbols on the reels (on the playfield) and the text on the backglass (different names.

I know about Bally "Gator / Alligator": http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=59
and "Cosmos / Cosmint": http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=4981
and I know about "Stop n Go / Red n Go": http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=6143 - somebody who has worked in business at the time has told me: "At the time there was a company in Switzerland producing some "Money Slot machines (one-armed bandits)" named Stop n Go - should have some picture somewhere"
Well until now I have not seen a picture of this slot machine. I only remember "Go n Stop machines (abundant in Switzerland at the time), example: ebay.com link: antiker geldspielautomat polymat go n stop mod 3721 60iger jahre

And NOT HAVING FACTS I can not write to ipdb: "The pin was named Red n Go because ...".

The name Goldrush was used for parts of the US and maybe other countries where the term Jackpot was referred to as a gambling game.
To tackle this problem Williams changed the jackpot theme on the reels for mining divises such as a lantern and coach, and the name of course.
That's what I know about the theme "change".
Not sure if I read it somewhere, will try to verify it with proof or evidence.

Anyone have an idea of what a good condition Jackpot goes for in the US?

Is it rare to see Jackpot states-side?

Quoted from rolf_martin_062:

And NOT HAVING FACTS I can not write to ipdb:

Rolf, I'm hurt. You can always write to me! But, I always appreciate your nice research so that, yes, we can have facts if available. You have brought several discoveries and interesting things to the hobby.

I have now added Williams promotional photos for the following games and whether they show posts or not:

1971 Model 397 Gold Rush (no posts)
1971 Model 397 Jackpot (no posts)
1971 Model 403 Klondike (has posts)
1971 Model 403A Yukon (has posts)
1971 Model 411 Yukon Special (not applicable; has the 'Italian bottom' for export to Italy)

Model 397 was produced for USA/Canada as Gold Rush and has prospector symbols on the playfield reels. The same Model 397 was also produced for export as Jackpot and has slot machine symbols on the playfield reels.

Based on Williams documentation, I corrected the production run quantities as follows:

Gold Rush: from (blank) to 1,156 units.**
Jackpot: from 6,303 units to 5,147 units.**
Yukon Special: from (blank) to 700 units.

** total for Model 397 is 6,303 units.

I just picked one up yesterday. A quick search of pinside and the serial number database suggests that it is rare stateside.

As far as posts go, mine has the posts.
