Hello Flash owners or System 4 specialists! I recently acquired a Flash and I am working on getting the issues fixed.

I have a couple questions and requests. Any assistance with any of these would be most appreciated!!!!

1. I downloaded the manual from ipdb however pages 49-54 can be difficult to read (blurry) the CPU assemply and driver assembly drawing with the list of components I need especially. Does anyone have a clearer scan of these pages?

2. The "Credit Knocker" solenoid coil in the cabinet is fried and appears to have locked on at some point. Can anyone confirm the solenoid part number as my coil sleeve is completely burned up.

3. It is difficult to read the schematics I downloaded (Blurry) can anyone list the components (Transister, Predrive, PIA) etc) that would need to be replaced to correct this credit Knocker (2J9/14) issue on the driver board (Q40/R68/R69/R70 area I believe).

Thanks for any help Super Pinsiders!

Try other manuals on IPDB for clearer system 4 schematics. Look up every game that uses sytem 4 until you find one. I am at work or else i would help you with a specific title, i know it is out there. Also google "firepower pinball" There is redrawn schematics for system 6 on that site which isnt much different. The driver board should be identical.

You can unsolder or cut the small wire off the knocker coil. It will take that problem out of the circuit for the time being so you can diagnose other things.

Wealth of prints.

Williams sol driver = TIP120/121/122 (I usually use 122's) and the predriver is a 2N4401
Williams uses Sol 14 for credit knocker. That would be Q41/14 pair.

Here's a pic of the credit knocker in Flash.

You actually need the manual from Disco Fever to get the Sys4 board schematics. None of the Sys4 games on IPDB have Sys4 schematics. Flash has Sys6 schematics only.

When I had Flash I should have scanned the schematics and uploaded them for Sys4 (sigh.)

WOW AS ALWAYS thanks for the extremely fast and comprehensive info PINSIDERS!

viperrwk!!! Thanks for directing me to the Sys4 schematic. I did notice that the CPU for the uploaded Flash was only for the Sys 6 version.

I got my coil ordered!

New question. It appears that my CMOS RAM 5101 is bad. The current chip is labled SCM 5101E-3. Does anyone know the correct RAM replacement Chip for Flash and is it the same for Phoenix (Another System 4 game). Does it make sense to replace all of the RAM Chips and what are the correct ones for the other two?

Any Direction is appreciated!!!

If your 5101 ram is bad, just install a socket, toss the chip and use an NVram adapter and toss out the batteries forever..

And not do not just replace the other rams if they are not bad.

All wms system 3-6 use a 5101 ram. The suffix is the speed rating which isnt important on these wms games.
