This is my first SS game and I know for sure there haven't been batteries in it for at least 20 years. The manual and markings on the board say + up. When I install batteries all of the digital displays go blank. The markings on the board are hand written with a sharpie. I tried a brand new set of batteries and the displays go out when the first battery is installed. Have tried with power off and power on, same result. Just brought this home couple days ago and can't get too far into it till I finish other projects, but it's driving me crazy wondering what is causing this.

Putting in a single battery shouldn't do anything. It needs all three to even make a circuit.

When I get home Vid, slow day at work.

Exactly

I've only done enough to play it and see what works and what doesn't. Wouldn't surprise me if there aren't some solder joints cracked and the batteries are flexing the board and creating an opening in a circuit. Plan on doing remote battery, just been checking it over to see how bad everything is. Couldn't beat the price, FREE!!!

Might as well take the boards out and reflow all the connectors. Seems to be a common problem on early Williams

It's going to need a complete redo from end to end, after my current project gets back to all one piece. I've just never seen this happen before and it's bugging the crap out of me. Don't have enough room to tear down more than one at a time.

Here you go Vid. Haven't seen any obvious repairs or hacks anywhere, has not been touched in twenty years that I know of.
