Funny you mention that Chuck, I just turned the power on and first thing was "Adjust Switch 27, Left horse" so go figure. Toyota, I'd be more than happy to purchase a set of those if you can hold them for me till mid February when I get paid next.
Other than that, restoration has begun- We started simple, by replacing the coin box lock, and tightening the set screw in the ladder ramp motor which was causing the ladder not to raise most of the time. Now just waiting on the boxes of bulbs from pinballlife to begin replacing those (both bulbs for the cylinder are burnt out) I did notice one major thing I need some ideas on how to fix - The plastic connector for the right side of buildings near the ladder ramp is busted and missing - which makes the right row of buildings extremely flimsy and bounce up and down whenever the ball goes near because it's not connected to the screw that keeps it stable. (I really don't want to risk busting up some of the plastic) Any thoughts/suggestions on how to fix that specific issue?

So my friend and I recently acquired a Williams Fire! table and have begun cleaning/shopping/restoring it little by little. Today as we were replacing bulbs, we noticed that one of the wires connected to the left rescue victim light under the playfield had come disconnected. Upon starting up the machine, we noticed that most of the mechanical parts had stopped working - ball release, fire plug, both ramps, etc. We opened the table back up and discovered that more than just one wire had come undone and now are wondering if we could have blown a fuse when the game was on and the wires were unconnected. Really hoping we haven't somehow fried a board. Thoughts/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We are both pinball newbies with a basic background in electrical and mechanical work, and trying to do this ourselves before we involve professional help.
All help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you

I have had many wires come off like that under playfields. When they do, it is very possible one might short out and take out a fuse. You will have to check them on the power supply. I like to remove them and test with a continuity tester if not just visibly blown. Off the top of my head, F-2 could be the culprit. Most importantly you need to look closely at the components nearby the loose wire to figure out where it goes. Solder them back in place, replace fuse...

#204 8 years ago

I could also take a pic of that area under my Fire PF and post tomorrow if needed. GL!

#205 8 years ago

that broken yellow wire looks like it came off a flasher, which is technically fired like a coil (sometimes referred to as a coil in manuals). Since it looks like ground, it could be sharing that ground with a few coils.

I'm not sure if this is the type of repair you are looking for but this is how I fixed mine. Scroll down a little and you will find it.

Thank you for all the replies! Dozer we would love it if you could post that pic for us sometime. I'll get working on it and let you all know how it turns out.

Hello,

as a new owner of a Fire!, i'm joining you for advices (to give and to ask)
I'm starting with a couple of questions..

Mine is nearly fully working (ramps left/right are moving well, ladder is ok as multiball, bell is ringing..).
Only things that question me are :
- why are there that much bulbs under the central windows, as they never light up
- is it normal to have a high pitched buzz, reacting to playfield lights, especially during attract ?

And another question, are there some leftover of the supports for left and right lock entries, mine are broken and otherwise, i'll have to cut some lexan, as so beautifully by Lonzo , or 3D printing..

Those lights in the windows of the playfield light up as you put fires out or as more fires start. I cannot remember. Basically if you have a very long ball, you'll see them all lit up.

My game buzzes and is very noticeable like yours in attract mode. Doesn't bother me.

#211 8 years ago

Thank you, anyway, it's quite strange as i've never seen them lighten :/

At first I thought mine didn't work either - I replaced all of the 555s underneath the table though and figured out that eventually you can get them all lit. (I don't remember, but I think they might all light up during multiball as well) check and see about replacing the bulbs then put out a ton of fires- they should all eventually be lit.

Also, thank you dozer, that was very helpful. We electrical taped them back together for the moment, which got the 89 flasher working again, but all of the "A" and "C" side mechanicals (Ramps, fireplug, knocker, bell) still aren't working. Still hoping it's a fuse, got a shipment of fuses, tools, and parts coming in from Marco's today so hopefully that will fix it. (All of the fuses are dirty and look like they haven't been replaced in 30 some years)

I'll give a try, but it seems that many Fire! owners are raising the same question ^^

They work
With the "all lamps" test but not sure if they light up in the game.

#216 8 years ago

Thank you, then my fire has an issue, as they are not turned on by the all lamps test.
I was wondering if they were controlled directly, so now, i know that i have an issue to fix

There are 4 that are controlled. Top left, top right, and top left and bottom right in the center section if my memory serves me right.

I had these same issues when i got my Fire. The majority of the windows actually light up during the coil test not the all lamps test. That had me stumped for awhile after changing all the bulbs.

To get rid of the buzzing noise i removed the sound board then added nylon washers under the board as i was screwing it back down. There is another thread about this approach and it worked for me.

That's right. I had the tests wrong.

#220 8 years ago

Ok, so all central windows but the usual 4 are solenoid controlled. Make sense, but did not find that in the schemes..

By any chance, does anyone have a flame cylinder + motor to sell? I don't have it under playfield.

(and while asking, I'm looking for a SC-01 for my other pin)

#221 8 years ago

Someone is selling Fire! parts, including the "not available anymore" ramp supports I made

#222 8 years ago

Ok folks, kind of stumped at this point on fixing my fire table and thought I'd throw this out there to see if anybody has an idea.
We have resoldered the wire to the left rescue lights and got the flashers and A side mechanicals working again. However, our C side (right side) mechanicals are not working at all - the bell, right up and down ramp, right ball lock kicker, etc. anything that is supposed to be on C side. Even more interestingly is that when the coil test is run, the A side will go in place of the C side, so for example, when running through the coil test, the Knocker will sound when it is supposed to, then instead of the bell ringing, the knocker will sound again. Weird. We replaced ALL of the fuses in the table, so we're kind of at a loss for what could be wrong. I believe that maybe we put a C side wire somewhere it shouldn't be which might explain the C side firing when the A side goes, or there's a short, or there's something else.
Any thoughts/comments/ideas/prayers would be helpful. I can post pics later if anybody needs.

Thank you!

SAVE MY BABY! lol! Always loved this game. Hard to find one without broken plastics. Ladder is dope!

Sounds like at A/C relay is stuck in the A position. It's under the playfield on a little board next to the ladder motor.

#225 8 years ago

I came across a box of center houses above ladder. There dusty and dirty but untouched. No holes drilled in top black roof decal. But, when you flip them over the hole is there, so your not screwing thru plastic. And when I say a box, I mean a box"Full". PM me if interested. $30 shipped, 2 for $50. I will send you picture first of the house you will actually receive. They all have a few minor scuffs from stacking storage, but all intact, unbroken, and pretty nice. By the way, I'll answer this now....only the center house... no others sorry.
Thanks Eric

#226 8 years ago

I'll have to check when I get home, I have no clue what that looks like. Thank you!

#227 8 years ago

so we're under the PF now, what board? where exactly is it? is there a switch we need to flip? Just wondering what we should be looking for

It's a small board with a box on it. To the left of the upper ladder.

#229 8 years ago

Just sent you a PM. We've located it, but don't really know what we're supposed to do/look for with it

#230 8 years ago

By the way, unscrewing a bit the sound board did remove permanently my high-pitched buzzing noise, which was sync to the playfield lights, especially herad during attract-mode.
I'm happy

#231 8 years ago

Floating the sound board works, to a point. It reduced my Humm by about 50%, but not fully.

#232 8 years ago

Ok we found a screw that had gotten loose and lodged into the A/C board, which might've shorted something. We ran another coil test, and all solenoids were firing on wrong times (bell going for knocker, etc.) we tried tapping it a few times, and now it's back to double firing the A side and doing nothing on the C side.

#233 8 years ago

Hey everyone. I previously owned a Fire! and am about to purchase my second Fire!
I was hoping to get a beautifully restored machine (lol, sure), but the one I am getting I think looks pretty good.
There is some playfield wear up near the targets by the ladder. I am in no way a professional restorer.
Are there still new NOS playfields floating around?
I will know more when I pick it up next week exactly what I am looking at.

If anyone ever knows of a great restore for sale, please let me know!!

Thanks
Kyle

CPR still has reproductions (which is better than new because the fire cutout is a shape not square), and they still have them in stock:

There was a playfield in the market place here on pinside just a few days ago. $550 I believe.
Hit market, then search Fire! Under games in left side search window.

I see they have the "bronze" version still available....what is the difference in the three different playfields (gold, silver)? Also, shape not square? Does that mean the light is more accurate in the centre?

Thanks toyotaboy!

The CPR Fire playfields are beautiful beyond belief. They are amazing.
The golds and silvers are sold out but they still have bronze last time I looked.

If anyone has a left ramp for sale I would be interested

2 weeks later
#243 8 years ago

Hey Fire! Gang. I will post add and pictures later today. I was in a warehouse about a month ago and this pinball dealer looks at me and says" your the Fire guy RIGHT?" I said yes, I've had 3, currently own 2. Tells me to wait a minute. Brings me 3 taterd boxes, and inside.....The biggest haul of center house you've ever seen. There was no pick and choose, all or nothing. Took it all. Way to much money spent.
So I have a lot of center house for sale. All in pretty good shape, just storage dust , some have minor scratches you can hardly see from stacking.
$20 bucks each, 2 for $30, actual shipping. Contact me, PM me, ring my bell to get your center houses!
Thanks Eric

Which one, the clear lift ramps, or save my baby ramp? Pm me , I have a ton of stuff.

#245 8 years ago

If you have both lift rampe, and also the motor+flame tube below the playfied, i'm interested for a pack shipped in France.

PM me please.

Quoted from toyotaboy:

So now that my plastics set has arrived, the two side ball locks that are cracked at the posts are bothering me. Since the buildings aren't available, I thought about a way to preserve them. My idea is to trace the outline of the plastic and create an aluminum waterjetted piece underneath to strengthen it up, and then trim whatever plastic back and create a replacement plastic piece and mount it to the aluminum piece. I thought if I created a grid, it would look structural like it belongs (matches the railing pattern).

I just joined the club and could sure use a set of these reinforcements . if some more people need some we can get another batch made. Thanks

Quick note to the 10 pinsiders that have contacted me for parts after my nearly complete, Fire restoration of 2 machines side by side.
Good news nearly all of you are asking for different stuff, helps me fullfill wish lists.
Been slammed with work this week. I will get to pictures soon and start replying to all. Sorry for delays.
