Fighting a sound board issue in a Theatre of Magic and need some help.
Purchased the machine as a project, however sound DID work when first powered on.
After some repairs were made (new ribbon cables etc) sound no longer works.
- Confirmed ribbon cables by swapping with an Addams Family.
- Initially got "Soundboard interface error" and single Bong sound.
- Heavily corroded ROM sockets, reseated ROM's and then got the 2 Bong error (U2 ROM error)
- Removed the ROM sockets (no lifted traces, all new ROM sockets installed)
- Now no bongs but "Sound board interface error" still displayed.
- Removed all ROM's and "RAM Error U10-U12" is displayed, no bongs.
I am assuming the RAM at U10-U11-U12 is bad.
I read a post about adding 8bit RAM rather than the original 2bit obsolete/expensive chips.
How do I do this?

Better re-jumper the board for 8K rams. You need to change all 3 anyway. The 2K
rams are almost impossible to find at a good price. Just use a 7C185 or
equivalent. If the DSP is bad the board usually does nothing. Changed a few of
them and still hate SMT parts

Just not a lot of info out there on the DCS past the ROM error's and Bong sounds.
I will default to sending this off if I have to, but I purchased a Hakko FR300 to safely desolder and fix it myself.
(The days of the Radio Shack bulb de-solder iron are at an end)
Any help, advice, or moral support would be appreciated.
I really want to fix this!!
