Ok guys. I almost had a fire in the Arcade last night. Wow tons of smoke and stink.

Williams Comet Pinball.

Anyone have a spare transformer they would like to sell me?

Wow! No transformer for sale from me, but I sure would take a close look at your fuses. You may be over fused.

This is scary. Are you 100% sure you weren't over fused?

Has anyone heard of transformer fires when the game was properly fused?

This machine was made when Williams was not fusing the coils bridge rectifier and the lamp matrix bridge rectifier. So a shorted bridge rectifier will take out the transformer.

From a friend:

It's a common fault with Williams pinball machines from the 80s and early 90s. The two bridge rectifiers mounted on the back box below the power supply are not fused. If one of them fails, it's a direct short back to the transformer and usually affects the wiring going back to that.

I will remember this when i find a Comet.
Is this the same case for High Speed?

Yes, same for HS. Just add a fuse for each rectifier. Fuse one of the AC lines on each with an 8a fuse.

Very good lesson learned, otherwise you might have a fire like this. Add fuses to System 9 and early System 11 games!!
