Has anyone made a stencil or decal for the Williams logo on their 1960's metal coin doors?

#2 2 years ago

I have a file on my website http://www.inkochnito.nl
Look in the red part of the Williams section.
"coin door logo"

That is helpful. I would like to figure out how to replicate this logo on a stainless steel coin door. I have a couple of Williams games from this era which could use a refreshed logo:

Maybe printing on a transparant sticker?

Do you have a game with a better text on the coin door?
Maybe I can create this for you.
Text isn't too hard to do if you know the correct size.

My other Williams game has even less text! I do not have a better example, but if we found a photo of a better one, I could extrapolate what the size should be. I would be interested in both the logo and the text on a transparent sticker.

I also want to put on a transparent sticker the image on the drop target on my Vagabond game.

These are water decals someone made 10 years ago.

These are very helpful. For my purposes, water decals are probably the best bet. Now I just have to figure out how to get them manufactured.

How does a waterslide decal look on a metal coin door? You can also try: https://customrubontransfers.com

You can see what rub-on transfers look like on metal here -- see the shooter gauge in my post https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/williams-1954-spitfire-restoration-complete

They are adhesive-backed screen printing ink, look like the original.

Getting a screen burned and screen printing it would be another way -- how it was done originally.

Your are far more ambitious than me, but I applaud your efforts. The rub-ons look like another good option.

I've adjusted some of the fonts to be more like the original logo.
Also adjusted the W logo.
I think this looks much better.
Please let me know if something needs to be adjusted.
It will be on my website at the end of the month, but now available here too.

Peter,
Where did you get your reference info for the file? I had a fair logo on a existing door and never saw the R registration logo.

All I have to go on is the image posted in this topic (post #3).
I added the (R) because most of the time there is a (R) after Williams, it may just have been worn off.
It can be removed easily.
I would need to know the size to make this more perfect.
A straight forward picture would also help very much.
I tried to keep it the same size as you made your file.

#17 2 years ago

Peter,

The size I used is as close as my eyes could make it so that is good.

Think that the R should be removed as no evidence that it was part of the logo.

Good job.

The Williams and W are on the game flyers. No evidence of the registered symbol.

Font is definitely an improvement Peter! Is it Futura? Kerning looks a bit too tight compared with the photo.

I am a stickler when I reproduce these and like to do it on top of a scan. Maybe OP can provide a straight on photo or scan.

#19 2 years ago

I found this rough pic as requested of an uncovered logo. Then location between the two coin return buttons negates a position for the R registration symbol.

The flyer also does not show it.

Maybe someone in the Cameo silhouette group could also help out. They make great stencils in that group. They helped me out with an Apron Stencil about a year ago.

Very tough to do tiny lettering with a stencil although it is possible. Dry rub on transfers are perfect, especially if the surface is not perfectly flat.

Not sure what you want to help with. A simple decal is perfect and cheaper. When you clear the edges disappear.

Are you unsure because you don't know? Or because of something else? Not really understanding this statement.

I am providing a possible option, if the OP chooses to research on his own time, that may or may not work for his particular situation. I see others have commented on options for the OP to choose from.

Tiny lettering in a stencil format is difficult but can be done, and that is why this forum exist, to allow feedback on the pros and cons of certain Options.

Everyone gives their 2 cents at some point in time.

No offense meant, comment away I love it, I was unsure what you were referring to that’s all. I sometimes miss things and only wanted clarification.

How to make the decal was not in my mind as Peter requested input on the wording and a request for positioning. I am working directly with Peter also and the op with requests. Peter is as always, going to make the logo better.

I still could use a picture of the original coin door with the readable text.
The size between the two button holes would also be helpfull.
Or the length of the words...
