All about who you know lol

My horseshoe connectors aren’t working well. Ordered a new set before i get too involved trying to properly adjust these. Otherwise all went fine. 3D printed parts worked great.

I 3d printed mine and ordered from Ninja Prototype for about $15+shipping. I used their PLA2 material which so far has seemed sturdy enough and was much less expensive than some of their other options.

Laser Cue is a fun game.

Back to Alien Poker
Anyone know what for or why the hole in the right plastic by the shooter lane exit???

#105 4 years ago

Ended up bending the horseshoe connectors well forward (new ones are on order) and putting it back together — all working well now.

Thank god for 3D printers!

No idea on Laser Cue—never played it.

That's for adjusting the angle of the ball guide to make the loop up top. There's a screw in there if you look in the hole. Mike

#107 4 years ago

I picked up my items. It doesn't appear they cooled off evenly.
I sanded them up and plan a swap out.

My LEDs have got held up and I added some coil sleeves to swap out.

Plastic hole is nowhere near the screw. Looking for ideas for something to put there.

Correct but that's what it's there for. I don't know if the screw location changed on production games and they didn't correct the plastic or what happened.

#109 4 years ago

What screw? Mine lined up fine

I am having some strange drop target issues and was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Start a game, on the first ball drop targets behave as expected. If I don't hit any drop targets then I have no issues the next ball. However, if I knock any targets down, on the next ball I start getting switch issues. The spinner triggers the K target, the King of Diamonds triggers the Q target, and the outhole triggers the A target. If I knock down every target in the bank but the A target, on the next ball all solenoids start firing until the solenoid fuse blows.

The switches are all on rows 1 and 2 of the middle 3 columns.

I would think if it were the PIA or 7406 that it would be a constant issue, but it seems to be related to the targets resetting.

Anyone have any thoughts? Could it be as simple as a bad switch diode? I have already replaced the 40 pin interconnect and socketed a bunch of chips, the intermittent nature of this problem has been stumping me thus far though.

#111 4 years ago

Could definitely be a diode

#112 4 years ago
Quoted from zacaj:

Cool. I'll start testing them later tonight then.

#113 4 years ago

Well I had been pulling my hair out all night trying to figure things out. I replace one drop target diode that may have been bad but it had no effect on my problem.

I reflowed solder on all the drop target circuitboards and checked diodes on every other switch in rows 1 and 2 with no success.

I was about to give up when I noticed that the switch behind the 5 bank of targets wasn't scoring (it is also in row 1 of the switch matrix). The diode tested good but then I noticed that the wiring seemed off compared to other standup switches

Sure enough. The green and white wires had been soldered together to one leg on the diode. I rewired it correctly and everything is working now!

I have 3 bulbs that are being 'difficult' (2 are inside the pops) but otherwise LEDs
Nice and blinding.
Makes the backglass look like it needs replacing next.

I guess next I will start on the display issues. First guess is swap them around to see if its the display or the input.
Tech has no good things to say about the display componets originally used.

#116 4 years ago

Your glass looks like mine with cool white LEDs..just too much. I swapped a few colored LEDs in, but I need a few more yet. It’s just too aggressive. Then again, I need to adjust PF LEDs too..it’s blinding, at least in pictures. It’s less egregious in person, but still. Feels like it could look better.

Set a new high score today! Took forever to crack a million lmao.

My 1st problem is the right flipper.
Every time I hit it the machine 'jokers' and scores.
Game seems like its not supplying enough power to the flippers.
Gotta find my short.
For such a 'simple' machine (compared to most of the titles I have had) it really suprises me with some of the 'repairs' I can easily see that I already had to sub out.

#118 4 years ago
Quoted from BMHouze:

My 1st problem is the right flipper.

On AP, switch problems involving the right flipper can be due to the lane-change switch (#43 in the manual). A few years ago I had repeated switch problems requiring several board repairs. Eventually I traced the issue to the mounting of the lane-change switch on the flipper base plate. There was an extraneous washer installed underneath the support bracket of the switch, causing it to be angled in a way that facilitated occasional contact (or arcing) with the high-voltage portion of the flipper mech. This caused the inverter in IC18 corresponding to switch column 6 to go bad. The 3rd time the problem re-appeared, the upstream PIA had fried and needed to be replaced. That's when I dug deeper and found the improperly mounted lane-change switch. I have not had any issues since.

Good luck!

#119 4 years ago

One out of every few times on startup the drops will have issues where all 5 don't reset. It does the 5 4 3 2 1 and some will drop, reset and drop again. The only reason this is weird is because they never have an issue at any other time. I can hit them in or out of order and they will always act appropriately and reset per the rules. Took everything out and cleaned yesterday and still have the same issue.

Just saw protectors are available for the playfield

I installed one in mine due to badly cupped inserts. Needed a little trimming but works great and looks great.

Wish my PF were a bit nicer. Seems kind of a moot point to install one on mine with some of the wear it has. My inserts are definitely fairly cupped, too..I’m waiting for a hardtop. I’ll be a day 1 buyer.

#123 4 years ago

I posted this in the Laser Cue club too, but has anyone added additional lighting to light up the drop target area? I was thinking about adding a spotlight to the left side, by the stand up target, but looking at pics of AP, it looks like there are sockets under the plastic behind the drops. Wonder why they took this out on LC?

#124 4 years ago

There is only 1 empty light socket available (I believe it gets used for the multiball mod.
I was considering adding led lit flipper buttons.
1st things 1st is 100% working.
Next on my list is compiling a list of stuff to swap out. Mostly switches that are 'crispy'.

My playfield is trash but now it at least plays like new! The looks on the other hand...

I’m still holding out for a hardtop. Easy day one purchase.

New Alien Poker playfields are due out next month I would hold out for the real deal. I have waited a long time to see this finally happen to finally finish this game.

#128 4 years ago

Either one of those would be incredible but then I'd have a beautiful playfield in a trash cab with a trash backglass and I'd have to spend another $1200

Yeah my glass is ugly too. No way I’m dumping $900+ on a new playfield. $300 for a hardtop would be an easy yes though.

Actually not 1200 or 900 he has them listed at 600 from what I remember. To me its a small bump over a decal finish for a perfect new fun game but my cabinet is pretty nice.

#131 4 years ago

I didn't even know there was another dude making playfields, that's awesome

#132 4 years ago

600 EUROS. Not dollars.

#134 4 years ago

775 shipped, so yeah not 900. But still considerably more than a hardtop would be. Just not worth it for something like an alien poker..just my opinion. An entirely new PF requires a LOT more work in order to install, too.

And a hardtop isn’t just a “decal finish”, it’s essentially a hard plastic overlay with new art entirely. I’ve seen a few in person and they’re outstanding. But we all have our own preferences.

I am on my second AP and just can't imagine why I sold the first one! This one is a keeper. I have an extra backglass framed as artwork. It is probably a 7.5 as a backglass, but 9+ as its framed professionally. I would love to sell it, but really love the look. I also framed the original playing card flyers. Will drop in pics when I can.

I'm about to rejoin this club. Picking up a bit of a project. Anyone have thoughts re: the Pinside average estimate value of $460 - $540 for this title?

I sold a pretty okay one for around $900 3 years ago, so I'm going to say it's not accurate at all. But I'm wondering if an average one is a bit more than that now or how much they really are selling for.

I'm trying not to put way more into this one than it'll be worth.

#139 4 years ago

I sold an average one about two years ago for 800 . I would think that’s about the starting point for fully working . I have a project one now and have just ordered the new playfield - don’t mind putting a little more money into it as I really like the game .

#140 4 years ago

I assume you'd have trouble getting over 1k for one that wasn't in super condition

#141 4 years ago

It's all about the BG and PF.
I had to wait a while to find one without wear under the drop targets.
Repo PF is a bit pricey for me.
Looks nice LED.
I opening bid the repo plastics in a CPR ebay listing cheaper than their retail.

Any one have a scan of their apron so we can get some decals made? Seems like there are decals available for BK and Firepower but none for this game. Seeing as all parts are now almost available for full restorations on these games, the apron is the last missing piece.

Thanks!

Thanks, everyone!

Imo the pinside estimates are heavily weighted on AP with older sales. It's worth more than pinside indicates for sure. I've got $1000 in mine and I'm okay with it.

Is that a BG resto backglass?
Doesn't look reflective enough where I have mirroring.
A very undervalued title.
But it does lack multiball.
I love the sound, AP sounds like the old arcade.

My glass is original as far as I know. It's not in great shape.

Here's another shot of AP.

Time for me to do a flipper rebuild - mine are weak! What are the right parts for these flippers? The manual I see online is only for settings etc, and a few months ago I almost ordered a rebuild kit parts online, but the parts didn't look like they matched what is in my machine.

Does yours have the plates with the built in coil stops?
