i've encountered stubborn set screws before as i'm sure many others have. you may want to try to use a long handled hex key with the integral T handle to give you more leverage. they can be bought singly at any decent hardware store. failing that a very careful heating of the area with a propane torch should also help. it looks like all metal components immediately surrounding that part save the coil, so quick passes with the flame should be ok. good luck.
