I have a whirlwind thats locking on the upper left jetbumper. It is a board issue and not a playfield issue because it does not happen with another board in it. I pulled the board and tested the transistor. Transistor tests fine.

What else would cause a coil to lock on (and blow the fuse)?

Hi,

A short on the board. Have you checked Q75 AND the 2N4401 Q74 ? Although I do not see the fuse blow if the coil is good and is not short.

With 1J19 disconnected you can power on the game with out worry of melting the coil and then start troubleshooting. In attract mode check U-45 pins 11 and 12 for DC voltage (should be more than 2.5 volts). If this is good the check the base leg of Q-74 for voltage (should be less than 0.8 volts). Lastly check both legs of R-96 and it should read zero volts. Let us know what you find.
