The machine is trying to get that score reel to zero. It will keep trying until that happens.

With power off, pull the reel and index it with your finger until it is at zero, then power on and try to start a game.

Look at some videos on how to clean/rebuild stepper units - a score reel is considered a stepper unit. You may end up having to clean several of them.

Good Luck, and keep the thread informed of progress.

OK - Time to begin your journey into pinball repair. Review the links we've mentioned, in addition, look at some videos on rebuilding Williams score reels. You will need to figure out why the score reel does not index. Like Levi requested, post pics of the coil. Also, if possible, post a pic of the contacts

You should not need to desolder the score reel. It can be cleaned/rebuilt while in the head of the machine. Its a PIA, but can be done. The point is, PLEASE don't cut the wires to remove the score reel.

You will need rags, rubbing alcohol (91% or higher), patience, screwdrivers, and since you're new at this, take pictures before and after every step you take. They will prove invaluable.

Don't bother to power up until you get this score reel working. You can do this!

As Levi mentioned, the coil was stuck "on", likely due to a stuck 100 point switch on the playfield.

I'm not sure what you're asking. The 100 point reels should look the same between players 1 & 2. If they are different, then further investigation is needed.

Does the slug fit into the old coil and move freely while in the coil? Do you have a meter to check the coil resistance? You may only need a new coil sleeve and to solder the coil wire back onto the lug.

There may be a difference between the 100 and the 1000 reel. It looks that way on a picture hosted on IPDB.org

If the coil is obstructed, then the sleeve inside the coil will need to be replaced, and you may possibly have to replace the coil. Since the wire for the coil is broken from the wire tab, it is probably better to replace the coil. Usually when you buy a coil, the sleeve comes with it. However, I'm not sure that's the case in your area.

Replace the coil and sleeve, assemble, and verify the score reel indexes correctly. Once completed, turn on the machine and start a game. The score reels should all go to zero as one of the first steps in the startup sequence. Keep a close eye on the 100's reel. if the coil pulls in, trying to index the reel, and does not release, you still have a closed 100 point switch somewhere in the machine. Power down immediately and search for the cause.

Where is the buzzing coming from?

Open the coin door, see if its coming from the door or inside the machine. It may be a relay inside the machine, so expect to have to lift the playfield. Don't forget to remove the ball before propping up the playfield.
