Quoted from Azmodeus:I'd probably buy a Tron ve shirt right now for fun.
We need a run of these for the next ZapCon. "Ask me about Tron VE!". I'll have to make one.

Quoted from LesManley:Mustang has a more creative playfield layout and better ruleset than Tron, but because of the theme the game got largely ignored. Mustang is actually a pretty good game, but very few people give it a chance.
I'm always attracted to the looks of a Tron with lit ramps (whether LE or modded pro). But each time I play a few games on Tron I realize it is only okay to me (and not a must-have like 12 of the 13 games in my room).
Quoted from Mike_J:Tron looks nicer, but Mustang is more fun.
I own a few Mustang cars, so I wanted to like the pin. I played several games on a couple Mustang pros and liked the gameplay a lot, so I ordered a Mustang Boss premium pin. Now I have a 2013 Boss 302 to go with it.
Quoted from Trekkie1978:I have a Camaro. Replace the Mustang with a Camaro and I would've purchased this game.
Keep the gameplay the same and change it from Mustang to Camaro and I still would have bought one. I swapped the Mustang model on the turntable for a red GT500 like one I own, but make it a Camaro pin and I would swap the Camaro model on the playfield for an inferno orange ZL1 like one I also own.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:And if Tron had the same shitty layout and rules as Mustang, it would be worth less, because even though it would be Tron, it would actually be Mustang and it wouldn't be nearly as much fun to play. So it might be worth more than Mustang because it would be Tron, but it would still be worth less than Tron, because it would actually be Mustang.
At what point does this shit become absolutely pointless? You realize we can't prove any of this stuff, right?
Your analogy is worthless from the start, because Mustang doesn't have a shitty layout or rules set. To the contrary, Mustang is a very fun game to play - as many pinheads who have bothered to get over their admitted disinterest in the theme, have found out and will attest to. Even better yet, are the apparently less experienced Premium/LE versions with their added gameplay features.
Quoted from Tuna_Delight:Your analogy is worthless from the start, because Mustang doesn't have a shitty layout or rules set.
It's not an analogy. And it's not mine. But it is indeed worthless which was my whole point.
Quoted from zr11990:Didn't John Carter of Mars tank? I love the movie and read the book but I thought the movie did so badly that they fired the producer.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:It's not an analogy. And it's not mine. But it is indeed worthless which was my whole point.
I certainly never said Mustang had a shitty layout and ruleset. On the contrary I said the ruleset was pretty good and layout was more creative. If you really don't think that theme drives Tron sales, I think you are kidding yourself. Even you yourself said, "Tron looks better, it plays better, it sounds better". You do realize that that two out of the three factors you stated for Tron being a better game are based on theme right? The question was asked what makes Tron so desirable? It's a totally fair question as the game doesn't have a unique layout, fantastic toy, great dots or even a creative ruleset. The theme takes that good overall package and makes it great in this case. Tron looks and sounds cool. When you add aftermarket stuff that should have been there to begin with, it looks really cool. Theme can take a good game and elevate it like it did with Tron or take a good game and drive it down like it did with Mustang. I don't understand why some people get so worked up about that. It's pretty common knowledge and why Stern does all licensed themes to begin with so they can hopefully catch lightning in a bottle with that theme's demographic.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:It's not an analogy. And it's not mine. But it is indeed worthless which was my whole point.
What is worthless is the seemingly matter of fact condemnation that Mustang suffers from. While some will always love or hate any game, for varying reasons, Mustang especially seems to have been given a bum rap on Pinside by many who haven't really played it and are just repeating a judgement that is accepted as true.
Some will argue that this is true of TRON as well - except that the resultant rating is often opposite that of Mustang's.
I'm just gonna swap out the pro and ve cabs to confuse myself and the next buyer,... and I hate money.
Quoted from zr11990:Didn't John Carter of Mars tank? I love the movie and read the book but I thought the movie did so badly that they fired the producer.
Damn, can't sneak a thing past this guy!
Quoted from TOK:Damn, can't sneak a thing past this guy!
Ok, I deserve it but I really didn't notice the sarcasm when I read your post. I also think JCOM would make a awesome pin. I loved the movie.
Quoted from Goronic:By the way...does anyone have a TRON PRO with the original 3D trans, chrome trim (and coin door), LEDs, ELI kit, halmark cycles, ColorDMD, silk screened cabinet for sale? Cus' that is what I am looking for.
You sure I can't interest you in a fabulous Mustang Pro? Cause if you put a Tron pf in it, throw on some nauseating edm, and close yer eyes, you are practically playing Tron VE. It's like VR man, but it's M/T VE.
Quoted from Goronic:... and by fabulous mustang you mean...?
The opposite of unfabulous.
Tronstang VE = very bueno fabulous.

Also that was supposed to be joke...but why isn't there a Mustang VE thread? Anyone.....anyone?
Quoted from kvan99:Also that was supposed to be joke...but why isn't there a Mustang VE thread? Anyone.....anyone?
Oh don't worry...I am sure Pinside will get around to it
Mustang doesn't get the love it deserves. It's a very fun game to play.
Theme absolutely drives sales...look no further than Ghostbusters.

I wanted to love Mustang so bad, but something about it just didn't grab me. The rows of square car inserts made it feel like a game from the mid 2000's when Stern was scraping bottom. I skipped it and bought a Stern Star Trek, a game I love based on shows/movies I don't even like.
Theme isn't everything!

Idiots.
It is one of Stern's better games.
Theme is huge don't kid yourself. If a game plays well and has great rules but I don't like the theme, there isn't a chance I'm putting it in my game room.
Quoted from dmbjunky:Hmm... never thought of that before but I guess I'm a pin slut as well.
I also refer to super-competitive players who care only about WPPR pts and their IFPA ranking as "Score Queens".
Quoted from Lethal_Inc:Theme is huge don't kid yourself. If a game plays well and has great rules but I don't like the theme, there isn't a chance I'm putting it in my game room.
It's always on a sliding scale and I think realistically it is for most people.
On one side you have something like WWE & there is no way, it's not getting in at all.
Then you have Metallica whom I cannot stand, but the art was good (not pics of them) and the game was awesome, so I owned it and would again.
Then you have IJ4 which is a great theme, and just a total disaster.
Everyone's diff'rent and you never know. I mean you're an adult and you love the movie Avatar...it's takes all kinds.
Quoted from Trekkie1978:Tron VE - make it like Iron Man VE, but add lighted ramps. Stern should be able to sell 750 of these.
The only reason I'd place a small bet that a Tron VE would involve 1981 Tron is due to a Facebook post Stern made a couple of years ago with the old Tron movie poster and some statement along the lines that "old is new again".
After thinking about it more, I think Disney would want to license the newer version of their IP since a pinball machine is a form of advertisement ... Tron 3 may not be dead from what I read, so they might not want to have "old Tron" on a new product ...
I'd have problems sleeping if a Tron "1980" VE were announced ... I wouldn't know what to do with mine . I love the sound/callouts of the "modern" Tron, but LOVE the 80s film
.
At any rate, if anyone is looking for a Tron and has the means, don't let a potential VE spoil it for you ... just buy the thing and enjoy it. Life's too short to worry about these things .
Quoted from megadeth2600:At any rate, if anyone is looking for a Tron and has the means, don't let a potential VE spoil it for you ... just buy the thing and enjoy it.
Exactly! Just buy it and start having fun. Do not live another day of your life without a Tron to enjoy. Find one, buy it, make it yours and then play it to your hearts content.
Quoted from Silverballer:Just buy it and start having fun.
Yup, and this is one of those games that actually justifies the price of the majority of the mods. Which you'll have to acquire from scratch aside from what I assume will be the El ramps. Spiderman didn't drop that much after the VE due to the insane pricing. Pick up a loaded one and be happy
Quoted from CrazyLevi:So wait...if mustang were actually Avatar, what would happen?
The cars would be blue and avoid crashing into trees.
Quoted from Goronic:By the way...does anyone have a TRON PRO with the original 3D trans, chrome trim (and coin door), LEDs, ELI kit, halmark cycles, ColorDMD, silk screened cabinet for sale? Cus' that is what I am looking for.
Mine has orange trim. And an EL apron and siderails. Otherwise, yes.
Quoted from TheLaw:Then you have IJ4 which is a great theme, and just a total disaster.
Awwwwwwww...... IJ4 is a fun game. I had one for a while but I did have to let it move on
Mustang woulda been a fine playing game if they didn't allow building up super jackpots to 300Mill during MB. Up to 300 for one single shot which is higher than most people's GC score. Absurd.
Moral of story is code is king and trumps even theme. Tron rules are nearly bulletproof and not easily exploitable.
Quoted from Guinnesstime:I just bought a Tron LE so now it's guaranteed to be remade.
Congrats, and NO, a TRONLE will never be remade!!!...enjoy your machine!!!

Thats right! They'll call is a premium and offer everything the LE has.

While I agree Mark, the way Stern are going at the moment and treating their dedicated customer base (BM66 treatment is appalling) would it really surprise any of us if Stern started to remake VE with LE features and just call them a premiumVE?
I know at first thought, it would potentially damage people's trust on future LEs but that's exactly what Stern are doing currently on any future SLE releases

A 300 MIL point super jackpot might be technically possible (100 MIL Combo Jackpot in Burnout Multiball with 3X scoring active at same time?), but REALLY damn hard to achieve nonetheless. I guess I'm fortunate to be a mere mortal when it comes to playing pinball as Mustang is fun as hell and a fine playing game for me.
I'll be very happy if TRON VE is as much fun.

Nah.....fact remains.....Stern has never made a remake of an LE, and never will ( been discussed endlessly). You may not like the LE of a particular model ( or price) , and quality/ price have been in question lately, but the LE, SLE ( whatever) will always be just that....LIMITED. VE's will be made, vaults will be made, and some feature carry over may exist, but LE's sell out before they are ever even released, regardless of price.Re skins, rethemes, whatever, but a premium LE...nope.
BIBLE VE? Fat chance
TRONLE? Same
Even BM66LE or SLE? Nope
( I think it's out of my system now....at least until the 10th version of this comes up again)....

Well, LUCI was basically another LE guised as a VE of sorts. I wouldn't be shocked to see a Tron Premium with identical features to the LE but different art. I also wouldn't be shocked if they priced it at $10k!
I am shocked the game commands what it does. People see almost everything it has to offer the first time they play it. I was done with the game in a night's worth of play.
Quoted from Pimp77:People see almost everything it has to offer the first time they play it. I was done with the game in a night's worth of play.
I don't spend as much time "exploring" the modes as I do on something like Simpsons Pinball Party, but Tron is an excellent game to play someone at to see who can score the highest. When I have pinball bros over, the competition is always the fiercest on Tron. Other than the great competition game play, a good portion of the appeal is sound/theme/visuals.
