It has been noted in the news recently that an F-14 Tomcat (the actual plane) has been pulled out of a museum for filming in the new Top Gun movie.

Williams #F-14 Tomcat is already a fairly popular game. Is this new movie going to hit a nostalgic nerve with the pinball public and cause prices to soar for this Steve Ritchie masterpiece?

#2 5 years ago

F-14 was my 1st pin. It has already jumped way up since I got mine, but I don’t see the price going anywhere if another topgun movie is made. There are just so many games out there. Even if it becomes very desirable, there are lots to fill the void.

what about Gold Wings? Will John Trudeau’s under appreciated masterpiece skyrocket in value?

Are you f'ing serious with this question? April fools is still over a month away.

Oh nevermind, I see you are a F14 owner so carry on.

#8 5 years ago

No. Not in a million years. Ever.

There is nothing more hopeless than the never-dies idea that something happening currently will jack up prices on a game.

This happens all the time. When the T3 movie came out (remember that piece of shit?) there were people who insisted their T2 game was worth more. When Hugh Hefner died people thought their Playboy would rise in value.

THIS NEVER HAPPENS. EVER. The news cycle is simply too quick and attention spans are simply too short for any of this shit to matter. It might make for good Craigslist or eBay copy but the affect on any actual prices is completely nil.

The idea that an unofficial knockoff like F14 would rise in value because of a decades-late sequel that will be in theaters for a month is even more ridiculous.

As an owner of 2 F-14 Tomcats (one of which is currently for sale) I'd say no.

I'm thinking if this one has an even gayer, more homoerotic volleyball scene F-14 prices will go through the roof.

If they dial it back in this one and there's less ass-grabbing, F-14 prices may fall.

Do you feel lucky?!

It better be at least the same amount of moist and sweaty.

I grew up on this movie and never saw the volley ball scene this way until pointed out by another friend much later in life. Some things are better remembered.

Hmm.

Better not think too much about all those locker room scenes, guys talking about "hard ons" and looking into each other's eyes and saying "don't tease me," and the part where iceman gnashes his teeth at Mav.

It's all here in the honest trailer!

Quentin Tarantino explains Top Gun the best the movie 'Sleep with me'. lol

Quentin Tarantino’s character of Sid in the 1994 film Sleep With Me has his own interpretation of the film that was a box office sensation and will reunite Cruise and Kilmer in an upcoming sequel.

Sid doesn’t once mentioned the film’s famously homoerotic beach volleyball scene in this brilliant analysis but still finds it plenty gay in it anyway.

‘It is a story about a man’s struggle with his own homosexuality. It is! That is what Top Gun is about, man,’ Sid says at a party in a movie-stealing cameo.

‘You’ve got Maverick, all right? He’s on the edge, man. He’s right on the fucking line, all right? And you’ve got Iceman, and all his crew. They’re gay, they represent the gay man, all right? And they’re saying, go, go the gay way, go the gay way. He could go both ways.’

Sid is now on a roll and continues: ‘Kelly McGillis, she’s heterosexuality. She’s saying: no, no, no, no, no, no, go the normal way, play by the rules, go the normal way. They’re saying no, go the gay way, be the gay way, go for the gay way, all right? That is what’s going on throughout that whole movie..’

Sid is simply not buying the love story between Maverick and Charlie.

‘He goes to her house, all right? It looks like they’re going to have sex, you know, they’re just kind of sitting back, he’s takin’ a shower and everything. They don’t have sex. He gets on the motorcycle, drives away. She’s like, “What the fuck, what the fuck is going on here?”

‘Next scene, next scene you see her, she’s in the elevator, she is dressed like a guy. She’s got the cap on, she’s got the aviator glasses, she’s wearing the same jacket that the Iceman wears. She is, okay, this is how I gotta get this guy, this guy’s going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta bring him back from the gay way, so I’ll do that through subterfuge, I’m gonna dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it.’

‘All right, but the REAL ending of the movie is when they fight the MIGs at the end, all right? Because he has passed over into the gay way. They are this gay fighting fucking force, all right? And they’re beating the Russians, the gays are beating the Russians. And it’s over, and they fucking land, and Iceman’s been trying to get Maverick the entire time, and finally, he’s got him, all right?

‘And what is the last fucking line that they have together? They’re all hugging and kissing and happy with each other, and Ice comes up to Maverick, and he says, “Man, you can ride my tail, anytime!” And what does Maverick say? “You can ride mine!”

‘Swordfight! Swordfight! Fuckin’ A, man!’

A slightly untrue version of something. As I recall there is never actually any tail-riding talk it's "wingman"
Also a famous lesson on "intellectual Property."

I don’t know. Nightmare on Elm Street prices didn’t tank after Dream Warriors failed to capitalize on the similar themes of Nightmare 2.

Did they? I see lots crazy asking prices lately on everything, but not many takers. How many $4k JPs and DESWs have actually sold?

None and no way a second movie raises the price of an already crappy game.

According to Boston pinball, who tracks actual sales and not asking prices, jp averaged $1995 in 2014, $2879 in 2015, $3851 in 2016, $3866 in 2017 and $4114 in 2018. Jurassic World came out in 2015.

I think what we need is something with propellers. “The Red Baron.” Would look great next to my Aerosmith LE and inversion table. I bet the great grandkids will love it.

I could see American Pinball maybe doing a Wright Brothers pin.
