VR is nothing more than a passing fad that the coffee sipping crowd might find trendy for a short while. It's EVERYWHERE here in the Shenzhen markets and I have personally witnessed this sort of thing come and go over many years being at these markets almost on a daily basis. Wait 6 months and they will have all moved on to the "next big thing".

The last "big thing" was hoverboards, before that drones, they seem to be sticking at the moment.

Pinball (that's REAL mechanical pinball) will not be replaced by such nonsense. The biggest appeal of REAL pinball (as many others have already said) is the mechanical action, the clunking of the mechanisms/reels/solenoids not some fake, idiotic "virtual" situation...Pffffttt.

    Quoted from selektor6:

. Look what happened to bingo machines. They disappeared. Or did they? Nick Baldridge at for amusement only is giving them a digital facelift. And that might be necessary for them to survive at all.
I don't think pinball will reach the low point that Bingo machines did, as long as they continually evolve.

Bingo machines disappeared because they were GAMBLING machines - no other reason - and while they were at it they destroyed the credibility of genuine pinball at that time.

    Quoted from peteo:

Really? I wonder if you could show a person from 1916 a smartphone. Would they think you are Lucifer? or maybe they would burn you at the stake for being able to click on buttons that would make words appear on some glowing piece of glass and instantly send it around the world to any one who wants to read it. I know I'd be the first one with the pitch fork

"Phonegument" - just as invalid as a Cargument.....LOL

    Quoted from Davidus56:

Virtual pinball will never match physical pinball - agree
Virtual Reality pinball will not only match it, it will surpass it. I have 46 pins in my collection. They cost a lot to own, maintain and house. Virtual reality pinball takes no space. Gameplay is novel, but too easy. That will be adjusted in the software as developers tweak and learn the medium.
Again, STOP confusing Virtual Pinball for Virtul Reality pinball. They are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

I attended an Arcade expo in Guangzhou a week ago along with many industry players (Gary Stern was also there).

There was an entire (very large) pavilion devoted to all things "VR" and probably about 100, possibly more, companies with large displays.

Punters were standing around everywhere with "VR goggles" on, looking to the outside world like wankers!

The interest in this VR area by visitors (including myself) compared to the rest of the show was so small it surprised me. I didn't even bother to take a single picture of the displays as there was "nothing to see".

VR will be a very difficult sell, my feelings on the day were simple - "This is another FAD!"

This fad cannot and will not replace real, mechanical pinball no matter how good it is now, or how good it might become - it is just silly!
