    Quoted from Rarehero:

I don't even need to play Wonka at Gogi...I already know I hate it from the awful slot machine sound package. Absolute ear torture.

eh. its not as bad as you might think. better with the update and most of it starts to melt into the background once you get into the game.

but hey. making judgments and proclamations without even putting your hands on the game is the pinside way. so you keep doing you.

    Quoted from Rarehero:

But hey, newbs having zero standards and buying untested & unfinished machines for $10k is the new normal now. So you keep doing you. lulz

straight to the basic strawman. the true sign of winning at the internet.

i don't own the game. but i've played it more than you. so - you know - i have an opinion that actually matters in this case.

    Quoted from Rarehero:

My opinion on the horrible sound package being a detriment to enjoyment is valid. Sound design is very important in pinball, and pinball sound designers have been doing wonderful jobs with it since the 80's. App/slot machine type sound design is wrong for a physical pinball machine.

again. if you read my initial post you'd note that i said the sounds sort of blend into the background as you are playing the game. this is something that you can't get from watching a stream in your pj pants and only happens when you are in the thick of the game focusing on actually playing well and making shots.

to instantly dismiss a game because you didn't like the sounds that you heard on a stream/video/etc while you weren't even playing the game is a bit premature at best.

sadly... its your loss because the game actually shoots like a champ and the audio really isn't that bad in the overall scope of things (note that i've never said the audio was OMG AMAZING - its passable at best).

    Quoted from snaroff:

So at best, the audio is "meh"? I'm still going to make the trip and see for myself. Have to say, my ONLY ding against my DILE is the sound package. Love David Thiel's work in general, but DI is lacking. The modes are monotone...seems like so much could have been done to create more drama.

yea overall it is kind of 'meh' which, in my opinion, is much better than having it be a deal-breaking slot machine level of annoyance. plus the more i played the game i started to tune out all of the audio that doesn't clue you in on something happening in the game (of which the audio does a great job once you learn all of the audio clues).

Dialed In definitely could use some more flash in the audio department. But I kind of like the little background theme song they have running through the game.

    Quoted from Rarehero:

I’ve got other things to do.

those 'things' seem to include downvoting posts on internet forums that slightly disagree or offer a contrary opinion to yours (even though you admittedly haven't played the game you are offering your 'opinion' on).

LOL. keep fighting the good fight my dude.

    Quoted from Rarehero:

What then do you suggest I do on the shitter? This seems to pass the time until the last plop.

make a Dr's appointment with a GI specialist?

seems like you spend lots of time in the shitter.

    Quoted from Aurich:

    But you can't escape sound.

I think all the tournament players with their headphones would disagree. But that is likely another topic altogether.

Again. I'm not saying that I 'dig' how it sounds. I'm saying that when actually playing the game... its nowhere as bad as I thought it would be from watching the streams of it. It all kind of blends into the background. Nowhere near as obnoxious as a video slot machine or anything like that.

Basically I'm just saying give it a chance and you may notice the same thing that I did.

    Quoted from drfrightner:

Whenever a game doesn't have a license its hard to find secondary buyers for the game.

I think in the case of Oktoberfest API is banking on the fact that there are hundreds of breweries/barcades that would love to have a beer-themed machine. Its probably the safest bet on a 'non licensed' theme from that perspective.

However... I do think API should have given owners some way to integrate their brand into the backglass of the game. Like a little spot where a transparent overlay logo of the brewery/barcade/etc could be placed on the keg that is on the backglass. Seems like such a simple option that would really make the machine feel like a custom build to a vast majority of people that step up to the game.

    Quoted from Skyemont:

I hate the band Iron Maiden but still got the pin. I have already sold it because the sound would never go away.

cripes. put on some headphones and enjoy one of the best layouts and code bases we've seen in awhile.

    Quoted from Rarehero:

Pinball is a game with an audio visual immersive experience. I can’t imagine wearing headphones while playing pinball. Why not go watch movies with blindfolds?

yes it is. the complete package is ideal and in a fantasy world each game would be a grand slam in terms of theme integration, music, gameplay, code, etc.

but its also possible to enjoy playing a game with your own music. especially if the one thing keeping a person away from enjoying a great game is a theme/music they don't subjectively like. or if its a game you've played to death and don't need to really hear the audio to know what is going on.

why isn't JJP using him anymore? Too much $ or did he retire?

that sweet deeproot money. they have so much talent now. hopefully they can deliver.

    Quoted from Bendit:

Speaking of creative freedom. Why TF would they artificially "age" the film footage on Charlie and Choco Fact by adding fake "dust" and "hair" on top of it while its playing?

cause it makes it look CINEMATIC.

this is a typical 'creative' move from a 'non-creative' person.

obscene color saturation levels and unnecessary lens flare being other common examples.

    Quoted from snaroff:

I imagine Disney/Pixar would be a better partner

you might imagine that but the reality is they are one of the most ruthless and difficult 'partners' to deal with when it comes to licensing and utilizing their IP.

i'm actually surprised that pinball manufacturers even attempt to deal with them considering the high costs and nitpicky restrictions they are known for.

    Quoted from Amused_to_Death:

Indeed, their standards are quite high.

i'm not a disney merch expert but i believe that is their own product.

completely different than a licensing deal with a third party that wants to use actual creative assets from one of their films.
