thoughts? will this virus stop you from attending TPF, or any other large gatherings for that matter?

The bigger health concern is the crop dusting of the crowd, not coronavirus (see also SAR, Ebola, blah blah blah).

    China population 1.365B...
    confirmed cases 83,000 (0.006%)
    Deaths 2800. (0.0002%)

    Odds to die from coronavirus:
    1 in 471,000
Odds of being struck by lightning:
    1 in 135,000

Already have the hotel, plane tickets and show tickets. Short of a walking dead Armageddon my wife and I are going. This will be our 12th year in a row and we have to check in with our Texas pinball family.

    #6 4 years ago

No. I may bring hand sanitizer with me though. If it keeps spreading.

    LTG : )

I hadn't really considered this at all. It looks like it's time to bookmark WebMD.

I have Axe Body Spray. I’m all good!

    #9 4 years ago

The problem is this virus is more deadly, like 20x more deadly, than the flu. The odds of dying are a lot higher than the flu if you get it.

    That be said...

No, I am going, and I am having a good time.

Unless it goes pandemic, then all bets are off, because they will have travel lockdowns if they are smart.

    #10 4 years ago

Are they wiping down the machines after each person?

    Quoted from jahbarron:

That's certainly one way to keep people outside the cough distance!

    #12 4 years ago

wear gloves when you play, don't talk close to people, don't shake hands.
    same practices i already do.

    #13 4 years ago

It only kills old people, so you guys have nothing to worry about.... lol

you think the Chinese are telling the truth on the scale of it? Think again.

    #15 4 years ago

there should be a zero tolerance policy on smelly unwashed pinball players now!

    #16 4 years ago

I'm going to park my uncovered belly fat onto the lockdown bar of each one of Iceman's machines. Cheers!

    #17 4 years ago

As long as no individual State gets locked down, all will be good.

I hope not. I think the economic damage from fear is going to be worse than the actual virus.

I’m flying direct from Wuhan to DFW!

Its all political.. China then Iran.. trumps not very favorite countries. And not just Iran, the high up administrators. All conspiracy.. nothing to see here, move on. But.. by chance if you guys do get quarantined in the arcade.. have fun! Eat lots of hot tamales and mike and ikes.

    Quoted from Zablon:

If by “they” you mean the next person that plays the machine and is concerned about it enough to take action then yes.

    #22 4 years ago

I’m still planning to go but may avoid The Walking Dead. A bit too close for comfort this year.

This....a population in fear is easier to control. Ever wonder why the media is always wanting you to be afraid? Pick any issue they hype and see the vein of fear they are trying to sow...

I posted this in the other thread, but I think it's funny enough to post here in case anyone missed it.

Do you belong to a secretive cult in South Korea? That would worry me more at this point.

Way to mix metaphors... that should be row of fear they are trying to sow or vein of fear they are trying to mine... but we get the idea.

So there would be like a dozen people there then?

    #30 4 years ago

I fly for a living so I have the increased potential of exposure to the general public, however I will be monitoring this closely as the event approaches. To say I'm not concerned would be false. Direct contact vs airborne is a factor.

    Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

That is an issue that is known, but can't be addressed, some of them will knock you out.

    #32 4 years ago

    Not really.

Cost, lack of time, crowds, show noise, etc. all will though.

    #33 4 years ago

No - but it may prevent me from retiring.... ever

It isn't that they are actively trying to sow fear. It is that 'news' is boring, and sensationalism is where it's at. They have to get viewers, people like sensationalism (which is typically some form of 'you better watch out!').

    #36 4 years ago

I am avoiding crowds, climate controlled commercial buildings and things that require being touched by the Public.

"Are they wiping down the machines after each person?"
Think about it, wipe down a virus-laden surface you now have a contaminated cloth. Proper disposal would be a sealed bio-hazard bag. Who is "They"? They would need to wear full bio-hazard gear.

It won't stop me from returning to Roanoke Pinball Museum though, just going on a slow day to get the fix.
Hope everyone has a good time and stays safe, I want to go one day.

    #37 4 years ago

wash your hands frequently, sanitize, keep a few feet distance from people, stop touching your face. You should be mostly ok.

Also if you're coughing, STAY HOME

Now, about those CGC and deeproot reveals...

    #38 4 years ago

Virus probably won’t have spread much by TPF. Bigger problem will be next “season” is my guess.

    #39 4 years ago

Does Texas even have any active cases?

This is not even remotely an accurate way to describe the situation.

COVID19 is about 10x more lethal than the flu by percentage of infections to deaths (which STILL puts it around 2% or something), yet only slightly more contagious...somewhere between influenza and measles. Primary vectors are airborne and surfaces, with a lesser worry (at least MOST in the US...but probably not TPF because...crop dusting..) being that it shows up in fecal matter.

I'm still going to TPF barring some massive surge of infections in the US. I already spent the money. The least I can do is hole up in the hotel room and drink the 700 bucks worth of alcohol I've already paid for and won't be refundable by the time the decision has to be made.

*edit* Holing up in a hotel room is probably the worst possible way to avoid it.

    Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

This is true. Odds of being crop dusted or stuck in line behind a sharter at a pinball sbow are nearly 100%.

    #43 4 years ago

I was confused by the usage of "crop dusting" in this thread. Was.

    #44 4 years ago

    I don't drink Corona , so I'm good.

See you guys and gals at TPF.
