Not your question, but 2012 Outback rear opening is just slightly too narrow heighth-wise to fit a pin with the head down. Forester fits perfectly of course (Why did I buy the more expensive Subaru again? Some nonsense about road noise? I'm an idiot!)

I would have thought the Outback is plenty long (it's longer than the Forester), just the hatch opening is 1/2" too low (Forester is taller). Regardless, good call going with the pickup!
