Solution - don't watch the news. The headlines are ridiculous

    Quoted from DaveH:

How do you know that if you don't watch the news?

Because the YouTube algorithm thinks I care so I get to scroll past all of them. 'absolutely massive' 'i warned you' 'people going to lose everything's 'the everything bubble JUST POPPED' it's a little much just for clicks and eyeballs

    Quoted from FamDocKevin:

Not looking to spark an economics debate, but curious why you think it will be mild.
I don't see energy prices coming down to a reasonable level during this administration (not looking to discuss politics, but I just don't see it). Couple that with ongoing employee shortages for small and large companies, and a continued supply chain issue, it just seems like an ongoing and perfect storm for a recession like most of us have never seen in our lifetimes.
Mostly, I'm curious to know what you might think turns this economy around anytime soon.

I can't answer for him, but people are employed in record numbers. Usually a recession and high unemployment numbers are heavily correlated. Since people do have jobs this time around, it's not going to be the same as previous recessions primarily because people can currently depend on their income and so can companies (depend on people having incomes)
