    Quoted from JBtheAVguy:

Really doesn't matter if you're out. The EHOH machine will sell no matter what. I don't know what the answer is but the price increase is not going to crash the hobby. There's too many in the hobby that the price increase doesn't really affect them. I am not one of those people unfortunately.

Not true at all. No one is unimportant.

Recession, no but a possible $75,000 hospital bill will. I'm sure glad I have health insurance, or I'd be looking at $95,000. Value based health insurance, what a scam.

Sorry dude, please start your own “Will looming medical expenses halt your NIB purchases?” Thread.

This one is STRICTLY looming recession-related, with an exemption for the effect free processed meat holiday gifts may have on NIB buys. Thanks!

Said processed meats may cause gastric distress which would tie healthcare directly into this thread.

    Quoted from Beechwood:

The only pin I was planning on buying was EHOH. When I reserved my spot, it was $8700. Now that it's finally being built and they want $10,500 I'm out
They are pushing it too far. I really wanted that pin too

Were you "in line" this whole time in a reserved/partly paid position with your distributor, or have you been playing the waiting game with zero money committed ? Simply curious

I was answering the question of the post title. Point is that if you don't make a purchase the next in line will. Especially for a title like EHOH. Nothing personal against you.

    #358 88 days ago

I was close to wanting an Elvira but I finally had to admit it wasn’t worth the high price. I’ll just look for two HUO Pros instead.

    God this thread is pathetic.

    Right? Guys?

    *Rereads entire thread

The only ones I see talking about a bubble are those mocking a bubble. Half of them you. Who said anything about a bubble bursting? Seriously. Who? I don't get it.

Did someone hijack this guy's account to make it a parody of himself or something?

Every Hour On the Hour EHOH here on pinside - despite doomsayers and fact I can't earn and keep a penny 2023.

    #361 87 days ago

I've thought about this. And one thing. A love affair, a depression, a war, doesn't always follow the same rules as the last one.

In the mid 2000's downturn, my business suffered.

And traditionally in bad times coin op does good because it is cheaper entertainment.

So if we slide into a down turn, my pin purchases will go according to how my business performs. Good or bad.

Pinside is really getting me depressed over processed meats. Lots of hate across many threads on the subject.

    #363 87 days ago

All the talk about the $4K modern pinball that is simple like 80's pins. Well, take into account what they cost then and adjust with inflation. I'm guessing they aren't $4K. The main thing is, just buy a 80's pin in really nice shape for $4K. We don't really need to recreate them.

Well - they are in the same category as asbestos, arsenic, and formaldehyde. So time to pick up a package of hot dogs and eat away.

Excellent choice. But the lime flavor is mine. Ma gets upset if you move the pot roast around to get the drinks in the back, so consider yourself warned.

Our fridge and Ma will be at the next pin show giving them out. Along with Tums.

Stocks generally rise when layoffs are announced because it signals that the company is cutting costs and maximizing profits. The reality is that most tech companies are bloated beyond all reason. Management positions on top of management positions. Look at Twitter. Musk got rid of most of the employees and it's functioning better than ever.

I personally have noticed more trade offers and less cash offers on machines put up for sale in the past few months. A Stern Premium might trade for another Stern Premium, but if you want the NIB experience you have to raise funds by selling for that next pin. That is something that seems to be harder and harder to do these days.

Musk is still worth close to 200 billion, I think he is fine. Facebook, Disney, etc.. have all lost billions this year. Everything was bloated and mis-managed with way too many overpaid managers. Musk paid and lost billions just to expose the crazy crap that was going on in the world. brilliant IMO.

    #377 66 days ago

The majority of people this will affect are the people that have cubicle desk jobs which I call nonessential work, more specifically people that work from home.

If you work with your hands and work in the trade skills you’ll be just fine.

I’ve always said for years three jobs that are pretty rock solid are healthcare, food and auto business repair. Everybody get sick everybody needs to eat and everybody needs to drive or go somewhere.

I don’t see 2023 as being a big Pinball year for me this is the first year I really don’t have anything on order or interest other than pulp fiction. Certainly the first year I don’t care for anything coming from Stern this year.

New Dark Horse on order for me.

I love how if anybody here loses $1,500 on a TS4 they are idiots, but when an overrated rich douchebag loses hundreds billions making terrible decisions and destroying his cornerstone brand, he's still a genius who is still "owning."

    HP ~6000
    Zoom 1300

Tesla stock has been skyrocketing the last few weeks. All the doom and gloom on Tesla disappeared as soon as they announced earnings and more government subsidies.

    #385 47 days ago

We're only in February and so far this year tech layoffs are more than 61% of the number from last year. That's a massive acceleration.

There isn't going to be a recession. There is going to be a downturn, but nothing serious. Our economy is doing very well, 500K jobs added, labor market is tight, and the Fed seems to be doing the right thing on the interest rates. Unemployment, as you know, hasn't been this low since the 60s. I could go on, but there are several people on this site that seem to be rooting for an American decline. For cheaper pin prices? I have no idea. Inflation is slowing - we don't feel it because it's still too high, despite the increase in wages. I hope that continues to decline, I feel it as much as anyone. But the direction is good - provided we don't go into a debt default or other such silliness in the coming months. Cheers, and I lift my coffee cup in a toast.

    Quoted from EJS:

It’s always funny when realtors tell me “it’s a great time to sell” I’m like yeah but then I have to buy.
    Someone will.

I always find this humorous as well. Many will say "it's a great time to sell" and "it's a great time to buy" on the same day, depending on who they're speaking with. The broke ones need to make a sale and the big hitters just care about their lofty production goals and have all sorts of canned scripts memorized.

Not all agents are bad though. The best ones are highly capable, genuinely care, and will shoot you straight. You just have to find them.

    LOL, take off the blinders.

Take off the desire to see this in a political light, instead of how it really is. I really don't feel you are looking with an unbiased eye, or at the big picture. We're doing very well as a country, better than most, in a world where COVID and the supply issues hit everyone hard. Heck, I still wish there was a way to punish so many companies that are taking advantage of an easy excuse to jack up, or keep their jacked up prices going. I still worry the Fed will overshoot. But overall we're on a good trend. Not without bumps, not perfect, but better. I'm willing to revisit this as more time passes - let's see what the fall of 2023 looks like. Right now I'm feeling upbeat about it. Cheers.

    Who said anything about politics?

Take off the blinders, you don't see the cost of everything going up? Nothing is coming down.
Gas may have dropped slightly, but it's still higher than before covid.
Utilities have gone up drastically also.
    Food prices too.
Your 401K, is it going up or down?
Jobs created are all ones returning post covid.
Why did social security benefits go up 8% ? Because cost of living. I don't think there was ever an increase this large.

I'm still buying and selling pins, but they're not NIB.

Sorry, I usually find this opinion tied to one political party. Gas prices are a dollar lower than last year. So gas prices have come down - they have gone up a little recently due to the cold snap hitting refineries, and China announcing they are going to open up from Covid, but those aren't forces you can change. Eggs got hit with a large outbreak of avian flu. Everything is up since before Covid, but there's also regular inflation in that - pins were cheaper in the 90s, doesn't mean we are going back to those prices. And I have no doubt many corporations are using this time as an excuse to keep their prices artificially high. Have no idea how we call them out on it. Plenty of things have come down - smart phones, televisions, wholesale egg prices have just collapsed, car prices are falling, both new and used. Here's more on that trend, if you like.

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/wholesale-prices-drop-at-end-of-2022-in-another-sign-of-slowing-inflation-11674049079

My 401K is going up and doing great. I could never buy NIB pins, not that I'd want to even if I could. Social Security needs to go up, glad it did. Needs to go up a lot more.

Funny thing, I literally just came across this new article, basically saying the same thing. I guess we'll have to look back at this in the fall.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/09/business/economy/fed-economy-recession-rebound.html

I think it's already been mentioned several times, so pardon if I'm just repeating it. The pin market isn't going to get any cheaper. Despite our wishes.
