VXWorks is the future, bitches! ;
After watching the Apple Keynote and seeing the Apple Pay available on a good number of Coca Cola vending machines I was curious if that kind of device would ever be modded and used on a pinball machine.
I hope so. Even with the fees it would save the hassle of getting change and operators handling change.
Since this topic was bumped, I figured I would throw out the link to the Bride of Pinbot 2.0 live stats.

Yes, who would've thought that my oldest machine would be the first one live online?! And it is fantastic, despite the limited implementation(so far). Big thanks to DP for being such trailblazers!
With regards to receiving data, a cool feature is enabling the machine to interact with you during play via your uploaded profile data. It is way more satisfying to be congratulated on being awarded a new trophy during the process of achieving it during gameplay rather than after the fact by logging in on a computer/phone etc. I look forward to the day when you see the pinball equivalent of "Level Up!" On the display after achieving some score or progress milestone.
I misread the author as being "Centerflank" and thought there was something cool in this thread, I was wrong

I thought the same thing when I saw that. If Coke can replace coin acceptors with NFC terminals for things like ApplePay, then there's no reason why any company can't go ahead and make one that can be installed on the coin door of arcade machines and pinballs.
So I looked and found this, which could even be what they are using: http://www.meigroup.com/usa/vending/vending_products/bill_acceptors/mei_series_2000_4-in-1_va_1/
So someone figured out to get data from the Stern motherboard using Raspberry Pi. He's currently using the integration to auto tweet scores. I can see that this could be easily enhanced so that there is a REST interface to pull a whole bunch of data more than just scores and a web based console to control wifi and social media integration. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/auto-tweeting-high-scores
