I would love to hear some really early GnR live punk covers but I would guess the audio would be shit if they existed.

GNR did an amazing cover of The Boxtops "The Letter" when I saw them in '87.
I am yet to find any recorded version of it or I was so high I just imagined it. But I can still here Axl screaming "Give me a ticket for an aeroplane, aint got time to take a fast train.."
Quoted from TheLaw:They sould be LeeVing that song to the master !
Quoted from o-din:... Axl screaming "Give me a ticket for an aeroplane, aint got time to take a fast train.."
That song would work with his voice
Quoted from TheLaw:That song would work with his voice
It worked real good. It was one of the highlites of the show for me.
Luckily, both times I saw them, his voice and the rest of the band were in top form and played for hours.
The Perkins Palace shows are now legendary. I went the first night and now I guess a recording is available from the last night? But no "The Letter" There is also no history of them ever playing it on any list I can find.
https://elusivedisc.com/guns-n-roses-perkins-palace-1987-import-2lp/
The quality of these bootlegs from those shows keeps getting better. It was much louder though.
From the comments-
"I was at this show. It was insanely cool. Fred Curry filled in quite well. Steven was there, came out on stage, broke his hand skating. Perkins Palace was a converted movie theater if you can even imagine! It felt like there were maybe 200 people there-Max. It was nuts. This was before they really “broke”. Good times." Yep.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:Any game will play fast when you slap a couple plastic ramps that returns the ball directly to the flippers with little else on the playfield.
U say that likes it a bad thing.
To make a great music pin - it needs to be live. So, #1) Concert Footage on the backbox. A) another lcd between the flippers that mimics. B) Ea song being played can be chosen by player and will comprise a setlist. 2) Manufacturer loads game up with a surprisingly high # of songs 3) Player selects from among them a half doz songs or so they wanna roll w/ to Encore mode. *The Goal/Key for a music pin should be to make the player feel like they are in the band, or at least a fan, at a live concert! And youve got to have 4) variable crowd noise to do that (note that Stern Kiss spinner adds camera shutters as well, perfect for them, and adds even more live show ambience. 5) Songs must continue uninterrupted after drains and not begin anew. 6) Integrate the songs into gameplay, if you can, but not a huge deal and dont wanna force it Im sure. Find a song w/ a storyline & show it on the LCD's as part of a mini-mode during gameplay (ex, this was done w/ Rosie dancing in ACDC, and Kiss's Paul going out on a zipline as he does). Cut scenes like that are what could maybe be the cartoon or music video parts. But the majority of the gaming experience should be live concert footage gameplay integration, ftmp imo

B) Ea song being played can be chosen by player and will comprise a setlist. 2) Manufacturer loads game up with a ton of songs to prevent getting boring, or bands dont get their pin. That Beatles pin setlist was extremely weak and unsold me, why put up with that? Its always kinda WEIRD enough trying to get into songs again and a music pin from these old bands who havent done anything for 30 yrs as it is, so again 2) Shocking, especially Live Song Variety, both in terms sheer number of songs as well as diverse, deep cut variety may go the 2nd longest way towards selling me. 3) Player selects from among them a half doz songs or so, go to Encore Mode. The Goal/Key for a music pin should be to make the player feel like they are in the band, or at least a fan, at a live concert! Hello! And youve got to have 4) Crowd Noise! to do that! (note that Stern Kiss spinner adds camera shutters, and that adds to the live/concert feel of that game.) 5) Songs MUST continue uninterrupted after a drain! Songs CAN NOT stop after a drain! ex (AC/DC) 6) Integrate the songs into gameplay. Its better than not if the songs mean something and more involves the player and his decisions. Further, if 7) the song has a story to it, integrate that story and show it on LCD's as mini mode during gameplay (they all do this at some pt). Cut scenes like that are what should be the cartoon or music video parts, the main parts of the gaming experience should be LIVE concert footage gameplay integration.
Well, you’ve certainly put some thought into this. I’ll be looking forward to your starting up a pinball company and building pins.
I was thinking about the under cabinet lighting JJP put on Wonka. What about strobe lights either on the bottom of the pin or on the back box. Or some other combination of lights on the back box and underneath that simulate lights at a concert.
Incorporate the lights in the topper. They could change direction and make it feel like a concert.
A guitar wah / foot-pedal, that you can plug into the cabinet and control something on the game would be cool. Maybe the power of a flipper, the angle of a ramp, etc.
Quoted from TheLaw:that would actually be better than that Funko garbage that everyone is in love with
Thank you, I thought I was the only one that thought this $#!+ sucked.

No, that's Max and Geraldine Bailey. They just shared their anniversary.

Yup, for $6k - $9k+ it is! For $4k - $5k sure. What Stern is doing would be the equivalent of Ford charging $60k for a standard Mustang GT just because Chevy charges that price for a Corvette.
Quoted from Novastorm:Would be hilarious if they went the way of MTV where images of the band get blurred hands when they are holding a cigarette and there's just gaps in the audio whenever there's a swearword...
If they did that they might as well just pivot and make Candy Land their next theme lol

Yeah but that Corvette takes a long time to come out and sometimes the paint chips, other times they remove the OG rims and even paint the car, Rainbow I'm just trying to stay in the ridiculous analogy u have put forth here sir I get it, but I never once felt cheated or believed I over payed for SW's or BK3 or DP, JP2 or IMaiden and they all sold for a decent price. Where's the issue, BOM? that's lame and who cares if its fun?, I would never dispute the JJP are higher on "stuff" but they better be to justify the wait and the price. 1 real bad flop and they are done. Stern can coast.

I don't doubt Stern games are fun, that's never been the issue. In my opinion Stern isn't justifying their prices with a similar amount of features, quality, and code depth compared to JJP yet is charging near the same price (for premiums / LE's). If I'm going to spend $7500 - $9k+ on a pinball machine I feel that I get the most value and fun with a JJP game.
Check out the first episode of the JJP pinball podcast that was just released. After hearing that all I could think is "that's the type of company I want to buy a pinball machine from" due to how passionate they are about creating the best pinball machines on the planet. JJP seems first driven by passion and Stern by profit. If that wasn't true Stern wouldn't be trying to save 25 cents a game on cheaper coil stops while charging $6k - $9k+ for their games.

Talking value on a 9k pinball game
Quoted from JY64:Talking value on a 9k pinball game
You’re right. The value of today’s machines doesn’t remotely correlate to their price tags.
It’s something of a conundrum for me. The new Stern games that I’ve purchased over the last 36 months are a blast to play, but feel like toys as opposed to coin-op equipment. Play a game on my SM Black or Shrek and then run three balls on Deadpool or Munsters. All are fun, but the older machines seem better built and more substantial. If you don’t care about things like that, it’s a moot point. However, when I’m dropping close to 10K I find it a bit bothersome.
I dont quite get the "Sterns dont feel like coin op equipment."
What's "more substantial?" Like heavier? More features? Doesnt stack up against a claw machine?
Quoted from TheLaw:I dont quite get the "Sterns dont feel like coin op equipment."

The older Sterns feel heavier to me and I prefer the flipper feel. The play fields also seem less prone to deep dimples/craters. Also, I’m guessing all of the older games would be considered Premiums. Spider-Man, Shrek, Sopranos, etc. all have much more going on than a new Pro. I may be expecting too much from my 9K.
This has been brought up a thousand times and everyone has a different take.
Quoted from branlon8:I think you just answered the question posed by the title of this thread.
Yep - that'll work.
For me though, regardless of Stern's games (most of which I enjoy as well) it's a simple matter of JJP games being bitchin' overall and Eric is DA MAN designer-wise based on Pirates!
Now bring on GnR already!
Quoted from Mike_J:I’m guessing all of the older games would be considered Premiums.
Yes, my High Roller Casino and Ripley's are fully loaded machines by today's standards. With playfields that still look great, a wood backbox with that great locking system they used to use, metal supports under the playfield, a metal lever to release the lock down bar, bulletproof Whitestar system that if a transistor goes out it is a $1 part, and of course an on/off switch conveniently located under the right front of the cabinet. And no fan humming away whenever the machine is turned on.
I wish the new machine has a new unreleased song so they can redeem themselves from the "Aint Goin Down" disappointing "feature" on Data East while they make a wink to the first GnR pinball.
Quoted from sonambulo:I wish the new machine has a new unreleased song so they can redeem themselves from the "Aint Goin Down" disappointing "feature" on Data East while they make a wink to the first GnR pinball.
If this is the reason this thing is so delayed I won't be that mad. New tune(s) for the game are holding up the production because, well, Guns N Roses. If it takes as long as Chinese Democracy to complete it will be a nice retirement present to myself.
Quoted from o-din:And no fan humming away whenever the machine is turned on.
Yep, that fan is annoying.
Quoted from Mike_J:Yep, that fan is annoying.
So are several hundred dollar node boards.
Quoted from JY64:Talking value on a 9k pinball game
Yeah pricing is crazy across the board but if I'm going to spend $9k+ on a new pinball machine of all things it's going to be a JJP title as they offer more features, quality, and code depth / variety in my opinion.

I would never buy a LE game and if I did it sure as hell would not have a run of 5000 lol comparing a Stern premium to a JJP standard makes more sense as for the CE game for fools only

Oh come on, you gotta see the humor in that - setting the number of “Limited Editions” higher than the number they’ll probably ever sell

Even the smaller LE runs by Stern can take yr's to sell out LOL
Quoted from JY64:Even the smaller LE runs by Stern can take yr's to sell out LOL
Yes, but many sell out in a day.
Quoted from Tranquilize:Yes, but many sell out in a day.
No more than one in three sells out in a day the games that do not take quite some tike to sell out. The 5000 LE runs are a joke and are not limited at all
Quoted from JY64:The 5000 LE runs are a joke and are not limited at all
Actually, they are limited to the amount of people that buy them.
On the other hand, 750 Rick and Mortys sold out pretty darn fast.
METLE sold out so fast, that they were still available NIB months later.
JJP could satisfy both parties by offering an "Adult" raunchy GNR pin that has different playfield artwork and cabinet artwork and code. Allow the PC version the option to turn on/off adult mode code but family friendly artwork package.
Both parties satisfied and nobody get's their feelings hurt. I can't see how that would possibly tarnish their reputation.
Quoted from CLEllison:Allow the PC version the option to turn on/off adult mode code but family friendly artwork package.
So, during songs do you suggest they just cut out the words and leave dead space, or put in beeps instead, or replace the words with similar words that rhyme?
For example
Fucking- bucking
Heroin - marilyn
Bitch- snitch
Faggot- maggot
And so on..
I would however hate to be the one trying to explain what these songs now mean to the family friendly, PC players.

Very good point Odin, and one that we can hope is being addressed appropriately.
I would expect games shipped and factory set with family friendly code. I think beeps are universally recognized as naughty, so guessing blanks will be in order ?
One can only hope Obscenity level is game option setting = Adults Only turn this to 'ON' for the full gamut the game deserves, different levels if necessary, personally I would have most appreciation for the game in hardcore adult mode.
Still leaning towards JJP GnR as my first JJP
Quoted from JY64:I would never buy a LE game and if I did it sure as hell would not have a run of 5000 lol comparing a Stern premium to a JJP standard makes more sense as for the CE game for fools only
Yeah JJP's "limited edition" (which one lol) counts are way too high, should be 500 tops. It seems like JJP now sets LE counts so high that they will never sell out. That's great for JJP but in the process they are ruining the collectibility and purpose of customers buying an LE game in the first place with that being rarity.
Standard model was a good start. Keep pricing competitive like AP has done, leave the side art black with logo if that’s what it takes to get it shipped and out of boxes.
Old rock theme or not, JJP has a nice opportunity vs titles churning out now. Adjust content in settings.
I don't remember that much swearing in GnR's music. Buy if there's is and they remove it or replace with Family Friendly lyrics, who gives a shit? Will that really ruin the experience? Same goes for quantity of LE's made. When do u guys figure an LE is going to be the reason u can now sell ur pin for big money? I haven't really seen that yet in my 12 years of collecting pins. In fact it usually bites u in the ass. Buy an LE because u like the add ons, not so u can be a big shot. Or do that and be a big shot, again, who cares? JMO
I'd like to see the game already.

Don’t know if someone does really care of it.
The most important is the stuff that is coming with the LE edition imho
So Now is time to reveal the game

Appetite is full of F Bombs
Totally agree that JJP LE's are not limited. In the past I've purchased their LE's because I simply think the upgrades are worth the extra $1000....invisiglass, external volume/headphone, powder coating, lighting, and typically 1 or 2 things on the play field that are a little different.....if u don't care for the bling than standards are fine as their the essentially the exact same game

Was POTC LE “limited” to 2000 units?
Quoted from Concretehardt:Was POTC LE “limited” to 2000 units?
All these "limited" numbers being thrown around, 2000, 5000...think i can interest someone in my Rollercoaster Tycoon?
Only 2500 made according to the info here on pinside so definitely limited, 11k seems fair right?
