Terrible game…had zero fun playing it.

It’s gotta be better than RUSH.

To my utter amazement it is not...but I've only played the lower tier

Its not the best game but I can say that about many...

What makes this one unique was the amount of over the top hype and bullshit.

Maybe next time people will actually play a game before saying it "changes the game" or is the best ever? doubt it though.

#54 2 years ago

I guess it didnt make all other pinballs obsolete. I couldnt make up my mind on this game. It is so beautiful and the looks like the GOAT. It never clicked with me for gameplay. I had my son , who is better at pinball then me , try it. He played about 15 games on it . I asked him what he thought. He said it lloks great but isnt fun to play. I should add we both like Steve Ritchie games.

There are technically only five GNR’s for sale at the moment and three are sale pending. The other two are dealer stock or should I say preorder spots. That’s not an over abundance for sale to me.

#57 2 years ago

You already own two Whirlwinds, so that's two of the best game ever made right there. Forget GnR

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

#58 2 years ago

I like GnR a lot. It’s a little hard to figure out with all the patches (no way you could figure the game out in just a couple of plays), but I like the way it shoots and think they’ve integrated the theme well. There are a lot of mbs, but they all have a purpose for building the jackpots. Don’t care for slash solo so much. But what do I know, I love the Hobbit.

The typical pinball enthusiast 2022 who wants to play the latest game for a few months until they get bored and then expects to sell it for at least 30% over MSRP.

That sweet ride only works if there is a shortage, hence this topic is being discussed.

That thought has worked great on my Rick And Morty... not so much for TMNT, Zep, Ultraman, and Haloween.

G and R is about the only game you can pay for and get today new. If G and R was in shoes supply like the other games it would go for a premium.

I think they will stop manufacturing soon and announce a new game... likely this Summer.

G and R looks and sounds amazing, but something is missing for me personally in the gameplay. Too many multiballs. I will rotate one through my basement someday to explore it if the price comes way down on these.

#61 2 years ago

I think its a phenomenal game. GNR has been one of my favorite bands since I was a kid and the theme integration is 2nd to none. I also think it's a fun shooter and I dig games that have a lot of risk/reward which this game has in spades. It's easily my favorite JJP pin. The software could use some refinement and score balancing which I think will be addressed by Keefer at some point. I think the reason there's so many for sale is that they sold a ton of them and it's also been out for a year and a half. It seems like there have been a lot of AIQ's for sale as well recently which came out in the same time-frame. People gravitate towards the new games and the older games can start seeming stale after a while. This happens with pretty much every game that comes out.

It is really a beautiful machine, cool upper pf with great assets and state of the art technology. It is mesmerizing.
After time, I found the machine was impressive in every way except for playing.

"I played in a death-metal band. People either loved us or hated us. Or they thought we were just OK."

New idea for pin themes instead of music bands... Comedians (j/k). But honestly, a Mitch Hedberg pin would rock. It could be titled,
'I use to play pinball, I still do, but I use to too."

Quoted from adamsebas:

I have played the game only a handful of times but will admit that I found it very boring. I like GNR and was looking forward to the game but I just don't think it's fun at all. Am I missing something?

Yep, I have the same experience. Maybe I am just over GnR or maybe too many multiballs.

I owned it and sold it. I found it beautiful to look at but boring. We like to have party's and our casual pinball friends didn't like it or think much of it. Should've kept IMDN in hindsight.

I have had my GNR since last August and think I will be keeping it for the forseeable future.

It is a great experience pin, and in my opinion (in its default state) too easy for home use if you are even a moderately skilled player.

If you don't know how to set your pin up to be more of a challenge, I can see it getting stale at home. I set extra ball max to 1, and reduced the max ball save on a song to 30 seconds. An "average" game will be get a patch or two, wile doing a few booster multiballs, then play a song, and if I am doing well, then an album mode.

Great games = more stuff like that, poor games result in not even launching a song.

And I can see that not being for everybody, I just play to do as well as I can in a given song each time I play it, I am not usually trying to tie myself into knots maxing out this or that. Doing what is fun for me, imagine that.

Complaints from people who "can't tell what to shoot" are from people who likely have not played the game much at all, or process visual information differently than me. I can say that after say 15 games my brain filtered out the light show noise and basically just focused on the lit shots for the mode. Basically to the point of making the light show and moving spotlights something only my subconscious notices.

I feel in competitive play grinding for patches would be a chore if the game is set up to not punish those shots.

I think by default JJP pins reward home play in that most people are just not going to "get" them in a few plays, and they have a lot of depth and longevity. This one at least has some easy goals that anybody stepping up to the machine should be able to see in a game or two.

Why are there "so many" for sale? There will always be some of these for sale as it was a grand slam from a sales perspective. If/when production ceases, there should be demand on the secondary market for a long time to come. I mean at similar prices what would an average person buy? A Stern premium or GNR LE? I would pick both ideally, but if I could only have one GNR has my vote for now.

#73 2 years ago

I can tell you I know of at least one that will never be for sale, and that’s mine. The game is pure adrenaline and an event to play. If you look at marketplace, you’ll also see a ton of Godzilla, Jurassic parks, rush, zeppelin and turtles for sale. New games coming out all the time and guys selling the last game to get the new ones. It’s a cycle that means nothing towards the games for sale other than the market is overpriced so some will sell after a year of owning.

#74 2 years ago

I had an SE and my kids and I thought it was amazing for a few months. What a light show! Totally different kind of play style from all the other pins. Then after about six months, we just stopped playing it. I don't know why - it just felt like a chore to play it.

The kids almost never touched it again. We got a couple newer Sterns after that and I can see what folks are saying about the feel of those flippers; nowhere near as snappy or crisp as the new Sterns. The other JJPs I have (or had), while not as snappy as Stern, still have a much better flipper feel than GnR. I've since sold and am questioning if I will buy another JJP in the future.

#75 2 years ago

I think JJP-GnR is a great overall game to play at home or on location. Great music, sounds, and light show. But my main gripe about the game is it's a horrible tournament machine. Ball play times are way too long. Even with tournament mode enabled and game settings strict, ball save times during songs still went on forever. We had a JJP-GnR SE on location and I enjoyed playing it just for fun. But once it was included for tournament play, we immediately discovered that was a mistake. That game has since been sold and for good reason because that location wants a great collection to play that is balanced both for fun and tournaments.

I played this on location a little while back. Huge disappointment. Couldn’t wait for it to end.

#78 2 years ago

It’s not fun after a while for me. Outside of a song the call outs are cringey, sounds are clunky, general play is boring. The flippers aren’t snappy (working on a solution). The light show is incredible, stock audio system is wicked and the general look of the playfield is captivating.

Not saying I won’t go back to it after a couple updates to see what the go is but until then it’s Jurassic park, iron maiden, pirates, Godzilla and Deadpool getting a good slapping

the game was kind of its own worst enemy. out of the gate being hailed as the GOAT. I got an SE. I love it. However, in a single pin lineup, it would get old. But that is true for a ton of machines. The game is one of the greatest pinball 'experiences' out there. As far as a shooter alone??? Good, not great. But in this market where we are seeing Fish tales go for 7k+, how can one not think it's a fantastic buy. ??????
Get one.

What he said. A great pinball experience

Quoted from MaxIsDead:

GnR is pretty, I'll give it that. But for me the game play was wayyyyy too repetitive. Also, I have never liked the feel of JJP flippers, they feel like swinging around a limp dick. Not sure given all this and JJP's stance on playfield quality, changing warranty, and pure lack of customer care that I will ever buy another JJP.

It’s like you read my mind and then posted. I will add that the never ending multiballs grow tiresome.

#84 2 years ago

You know it's bad when ppl say it's not a pinball game it's an experience. Yeah it's an experience all right and just like my colonascopy, a terrible one..

GNR is Not the GOAT, and If you think it is you’re kidding yourself. It definitely doesn’t play very well out of the box, and JJP really needs to focus some R&D on their flipper alignment, mechs, power, etc…

That said, droop the flippers (like sterns), adjust the flipper power, get a good pitch (6.9-7.1), adjust the booster mb difficulty +1each, dial in the shots, increase the powerchord timer, and you’ll find quite a gem inside GNR, a pretty amazing one at that. Fun and amazing shots, combos, fun upper looping shot, one of the coolest deadpol’esk whirly do shots (center spinner through the pops to lanes), one of the best mini pf’s in pinball, and a lot of different things to go for and try. The 2 biggest cons of the game is slash solo (cool mode but really needs to be stackable with other game modes), and the game really shines at the 20+ minute style games which is Keefers staple. But holy hell is it a risk/reward - Adrenalin seeker wet dream.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but the ones that get it, get it.

What the….? This game went from the penthouse to the doghouse in a hurry. It’s usually the other way around. I’ve only played a couple games so I have no opinion either way but man, the Pinside pitchforks are out.

GnR is the GOAT from a pinball reveal and FOMO perspective... But they have been churning them and only them out for 18 months now. GnR launched inbetween AIQ and Zeppelin. How are those doing compared to their launch FOMO? The difference is JJP has been making 95% GnR the entire time Stern has made AIQ, LZ, Mando, Godzilla, and Rush. How many people that bought one of those have sold it? How many people that bought those are really competing against same model NIB sales in a timely manner?

Why so many “Why so many…..” threads?

Honestly happens with every game at some point, but I think they’ve sold alot of GNR, and nothing else for what…..18 months? There must be a lot out there. The gameplay is not everyones cup of tea, yet it seems like almost everyone has owned one.

There is just something wrong with any game where you have to do all that just to enjoy it. You have to start out with the peemise that it's a great game and fugure out how to unlock it's potential. Meanwhile someone like me steps up to a random game not knowing what to expect and tries it out. It plays terrible so you walk away with a negative experience.

Most mini pf’s are a gimmick. GNR is quick, not a grind, integrated very well. So Yes, one of the best, not the best, but one of them.

It’s not just GNR, it’s all JJP’s. My WOZ was the same way. Had friends and people telling me how horrible that game was, why buy, etc….I still took the chance and found out, It too is a freakin master piece - just needs love to get dialed in right. But yes, I agree that’s a problem and as I mentioned, something JJP really needs to focus their R&D attention to for future.

Purely opinion based. I have more sterns because stern makes more games! At least
more than one a year. No bias here just didn't like GnR or Woz and neither did friends and family, so out they go. No need to take a shot at my collection without understanding the situation or what makes me happy. Also have sold a few Stern because i didn't like them.
