Quoted from PanzerFreak:With the games features, deep rulset and excellent use of licensed assets I can see The Hobbit being a very collectible game. It's simply one of the best objective based pins ever made.
Is that you Jack?

If you remember, TH bombed horribly at expo a few years ago just before it was supposed to be released. It then went through a series of redesign by committee after the original designer had already been let go by JJP. I don't think they ever really captured a complete playfield and certainly no cool shots or even a purpose for the upper flipper.
Supply and demand.
The game got a lot of fan boy hype and really good promotion and sales effort. Not to mention a lot of people wanted to try a JJP machine but were turned off by the WOZ theme. So the market is flooded despite the fact that TH is at best an OK game. Hence the price plummet on the secondary market. For those who like the game and want a used one it's great. For those who bought NIB and were disappointed, not so much.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:Scoring from Stern has become a bit ridiculous. Hitting a regular ramp or orbit on many new Stern games awards a crazy amount of points. At some point 500 million, 1 billion, etc are all just large numbers and come across as meaniningless. There's no weight to the scores anymore in Stern games as the scoring is so bonkers.
With a JJP game a million points is a pretty good game. Higher scores on JJP games feel more meaningful as the scoring isn't insanely high.
Wow if that isn't a fan boy rationalization! Like somehow the scoring standard makes a game more or less fun. I have EMs that 1000 is a good game and AFM you suck if you don't get a billion. They are what they are and equally valid. Just wondering; do you have a guitar amp that goes to eleven?
Quoted from bigd1979:Ted e did dialed in....
Ted is a class act and a quiet member of JJP. I actually prefer Ted's type of games like Funhouse, TZ, Jackbot, etc to the endless wood chopping games that others around here seem to like.
