Just curious if anyone has insight as to why there are so many for sale now and so cheap?!? There have been some LEs listed at or below 7k.

I played this game yesterday for quite some time and love it! It is my top trade choice right now for my AFM. Plus, I hear an update is coming soon!

I would be interested to hear from previous owners why they have dumped them.

#2 6 years ago

For me I'm out of work and thought you sell the newest when needed. My premium with new playfield is at 6,200 in the market place right now.

#3 6 years ago

After a while it just gets boring, at least to me. It also does not help that the designer has been charged with possessing child pornography. I sold my LE with a ton of mods, including a color DMD, external audio control, speaker inserts, lit speakers, side blades, pink and green ball in ball locks, ecto car, etc. for $7,200. I sold it with ghosting but the play-field has been replaced so it is essentially a brand new machine with a ton of mods for that price. Sterns seem to be for the taking, allot produced and so much new stuff coming out that people seem to be selling them first.

#4 6 years ago

Oh no is this going to be like the Hobbit thread?

I'm sure there are many reasons I know I'm at limit for space.

#5 6 years ago

My guess is that you are starting to see a saturation point with both the variety of new pins available and the volume produced. While choices have increased, the ability for the customer to acquire more hasn't necessarily. So, it's sell the last toy purchased for the newest toy. There is so much volume that it's easy to get it back if you have seller's remorse. Depreciation is starting to hit the market like almost every other market.

Beautiful game, shit code...don't miss my LE

It sucks? I don’t think so but

Per Stern it was one of their biggest modern day sellers so there a lot of them out there

Like every other pin, it’s high priced recent Nibs are taking a hit on the secondary market to buy the new stuff

Love mine. Never leaving . It’s different and code getting much needed update soon

Nah. No drama here. I am just curious to hear, as a potential owner, why some got rid of their games.

Like I said, I thought the game was great!

I have a premium and really enjoy it, but there is no denying that GB is a very polarizing game. It's got phenomenal sound and a stellar light show, as well as one of the best art packages out there. It's also a dream theme for many. That being said, it's difficult as hell, and the rules are extremely unbalanced. There is way too much emphasis on the skill shot and the playfield multipliers. On top of this, you also have the linear nature of the modes. These things cause many to find the game very frustrating and/or unsatisfying. Some of this could be fixed with tweaks to the code, but Stern has not given us any reason to believe this will happen.

It's not just GB, though. If you look at the market, there are a bunch of newer HUO games up for sale at substantial discounts compared to what they cost new. Plus, it's not just Stern. There are plenty of Spooky and JJP games up for sale as well. People can barely give their Hobbits and RZ's away. Heck, we're even starting to see some turnover on the Chicago Gaming remakes. I'm definitely sensing that the market is reaching it's saturation point. People are running out of space/money, and with all the compelling games like GOTG, Houdini, TNA and POTC coming down the pike, people simply need to sell stuff. The days of buying a NIB game and thinking you will be guaranteed to break even on it when you sell it in a year are a thing of the past.

#10 6 years ago

I played GBLE a bunch of times at AYCE gogi and thought it was a good game. Actually I'd like to get one, and maybe a couple other recent stern LE games, just waiting for local deals to pop up.

#11 6 years ago

The more expensive they get the more you gotta sell one to buy a new one.

#12 6 years ago

I wanted to like my premium - did all the mods required to make it playable but just could not get into it. Glad it’s gone

I don't understand this comment. I'd sell my least favorite game before the newest game, what if the newest game is your favorite game of all time? Would you sell it because it's the newest?

We don't all own strictly modern Sterns like you. Selling my Royal Flush isn't going to generate enough monies to buy a NIB.

#15 6 years ago

Proably because there is extreme amount made.... ...i think its a fun pin...

Doesn't help that Trudeau designed it..... a few people dumped it because of that.

And saturation is now here.

My GB Premium isn’t for sale so don’t even ask!

#19 6 years ago

As a HUGE GB fan this was my FIRST NIB and I was really excited. The PF art, sound and music is absolutely top notch. Cab art as well. The problem is the layout - it's just boring. The right ramp shot (pro and prem) just doesn't feel good. The type of shots and how the game progresses is very limited. Yes you can choose what ladder but ultimately it's the same progression each time. I'm really hoping the code can help but I'm not sure - just not a fan of the layout.

That being said, the prices have come down SO much recently that I was almost in a deal to buy an LE b/c the art package and rest is so strong I was like F it. Just wish they could have done more b/c they were so close.

The premium in banning right ramp shoots awesome, I would ask chuckcasey how they made it so smooth.

#21 6 years ago

Had an LE. a game that gets by on theme, art and a packed, shot-filled play field. Play it though, and ugh.

Game play is rough. Design is awful. Rules are hideous.

Dwight’s code scared me off of Star Wars too.

Don’t miss the game.

#23 6 years ago

Ghostbusters isn’t without its flaws that’s for sure but most of them can be corrected. I still find the game to be a lot of fun personally. I’d be a liar if I said it hasn’t lost a little bit of it’s flair but it’s still a keeper in my book and it’s a gorgeous game.

#24 6 years ago

On paper GB should be the best game Stern has ever made.....Best art, packed with toys and innovation, amazing sound package, brilliant dots, fantastic theme. What's there not to like? But it just wasn't fun to play. Was so happy when it left.

This is a forum. People give and ask for opinions. That is all I did - ask for opinions/insight. Not sure why I get downvoted for that.

It truly was baffling to me why there are so many for sale and wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. That said, I am picking one up tomorrow

Thanks for all the insight. I didn’t realize Stern made so many. The gameplay didn’t bother me much and I am a huge GB fan!

#26 6 years ago

Phenomenal theme and crap game play.

I like all of the cabinet and playfield art, but I don't like any of the translites.

#27 6 years ago

Congrats! I just got my LE this morning after wanting one for a very long time. For all the people selling them and driving prices down, a sincere thank you

#28 6 years ago

Like every other game, people love them until they don't. Many new pins are coming out they need to be funded. GB is a love/hate game like IM and TWD.

I ain’t fraid of no Ghosting — I mean Ghost !!!

I adjusted mine perfectly (based on forum feedback) and it was smoother but in general the shot just isn't fun.

I own the Pro and think ripping the right ramp is the best feeling shot in the game.

yep - I'm sure others might. Just giving you my opinion. I just wish this game felt and played better. With the complete market crash on this game (specifically Prem and LE), I would say majority agree. Pro seems like the better value but I've played both and MUCH prefer the prem.

#33 6 years ago

I think it's about time. What other product can you expect to get such a high return on? If you buy a new car it loses 10% as soon as you drive it from the yard. In a years time that same car would probably struggle to sell for 75% of the purchase price. It is supply and demand that dictates the prices so I hope a saturation of the market will bring the price of second hand pins down considerably. All these people that have 10 Stern L.E's lined up with mods etc etc may be in for a shock when they try to offload in the next year or so. No one will want a Ghostbusters or a GOT etc when there are newer (most likely better) titles out there. I'm looking forward to a secondhand pin price crash!

#34 6 years ago

Im glad the market got crowded, picked up a nicely modded premium for a very reasonable pricetag. I really enjoy the game, its really different , code needs some tweaks but Its a blast..

In that case appologies! Just seemed hot on the heals of the hobbit one, which felt like a ask to get people to bash the game kind of thread.

There were alot of gb made, and alot of people bought them withought knowing its a hard and mean game. The layout, code and of course looks and sounds are all top notch. Probably one of the funnest games Ive played, youll love it Im sure!

No worries. I got this game yesterday and I have to say, I am loving it so far! My wife and daughter are into it as well which make it more enjoyable...although I had no idea about the scream feature (luckily they weren’t around for that) which I did disable after it scared the piss out of me!

#37 6 years ago

There’s lots of them around, and it has been in people’s homes long enough for them to get bored with it now

#38 6 years ago

I love mine and really like the gameplay but the Spike system is what worries me. I want to be able to do any needed repairs on my games that's why I'm looking to move/trade mine.

#39 6 years ago

Just added a premium to my collection last week and loving it so far. It is a hard game but the layout is very different from everything else. The Pro is too stripped down in my opinion.

I think as someone else has said earlier, with all these new pins being launched with high price tags, somethings got to give.

#40 6 years ago

I think the decline is specific to this game not in general. As a former owner it starts off really well and then you realize it's shortcomings and it's hard to enjoy it as much. Such a good theme music sounds art too.

Scream feature? Didn't even know about it. Love me some hidden surprises.

You're either running old code or the feature is disabled. I believe it comes turned on by default. Anyway, it's cool when someone new steps up for the first time and gets it. It's startling and loud.

#43 6 years ago

I'm not sure "so many are for sale". You'd have to know how many are out there to start with as the more games produced naturally mean more for sale. Then many are for sale compared to what? I don't really think we have the data to make a comparison.

GB is a bit difficult but rewarding once you learn it. AS is a bit more like a quick crack fix. I find the two games to compliment each other perfectly - buy both.

My wife hates it too. It's loud even at #4 volume, but I won't turn it off. I love when it scares the hell out of her!

Same here, funny as hell!

Wife came running downstairs to see what the crazy loud scream was.

The premium at the MoP was dialed in fairly quickly. The LE however has had issues since it came out of the box, including cheap drains and the machine failing to find the ball and going into ball search. Several techs have looked at it with no luck.

Anyone that loves their GB just has Stockholm Syndrome and don't want to admit they wasted 7k on a pig with lipstick.

Me too... it scared my 4yo granddaughter so much, she didn't play it for months, until we (my son / her father & I) said we removed that scream out of the game, for her.

#49 6 years ago

they do well on location and beat out other new sterns, even star wars. homeowners selling them now to buy other new games since games cost so much nwow cant keep em all. in the past, not so many good games were released. now, with almost game after game being made as a "good" game to buy (including jjp, etc) so now people sell to buy the next game. pretty simple.

#50 6 years ago
Quoted from jyeakley:

Simple. It's horrible. The design is awful. The rules are linear. It fails to capture what we love about the movie. It's not fun. Once the theme/art love factor wears off, people realize it barely even qualifies as a pinball machine...and would rather use that spot for an actual fun pinball machine.
