Funny you say that...I was really close to turning it off. I honestly thought the machine was frying itself - I had it at volume 4 and the scream was at a 30!
BTW - do people keep the volume at the default setting? It was so loud to start!

I turned the scream feature off after the first time I ever heard it. That was enough for me.

#102 6 years ago

The flipper gap is absurd on this game. I played it on route today, and the BK2000 (next door) flipper gap was like closed zipper flippers in comparison. What a stupid thing to do to a game.

Game is actually more fun on Farsight Pinball Arcade. And thousands cheaper too.

#103 6 years ago

Getting the center post and lane guard mod made a world of difference in my opinion of Ghostbusters. I have played GBmore than any other pinball machine ever and I still enjoy it. It still isn't in my top 5 but it is a great and simple game that draws people in.

Haha, yep, I love the scream feature, it's cool!

I never installed the center post mod, have the lane hop guards on there. I don't find the flipper gap that big of a deal on this pin. The outlanes are more than fair so its a bit of a trade off to me.

After TWD, nothing seems to bother me from a difficulty standpoint anymore.

I love this game, unique, ramp shots are awesome, Slimer, magna slings, hologram etc. And its gorgeous artwork. Overall great FUN

Not every game has to be a coding masterpiece, its good enough with one more "pass" coming.

What's even more surprising than all the Ghostbusters for sale is the fact that it took 50 posts before you came in here to rip on the game ...

When I saw the title of this thread, I wondered how quickly rare hero would chime in. He's not wrong though. GB sucks for all the reasons he's listed in the past. Hell, its almost as bad as family guy. Now that is a case of Stockholm Syndrome.

Doesn't help that Trudeau designed it..... a few people dumped it because of that.
And saturation is now here.

Naah, Look at Hitler, and people still buy "The People's Car", VW's

Once again, it was a joke. Your anti-GB stance is well known

We could always start a Ghostbusters v.s Hobbit Battle Royal

I also turned it off, I keep hoping a future code will allow you to adjust the volume on the scream. I like the feature but at the current level, it's way to loud!

GB got me seriously into this damn hobby, so I owe it that.. wait a Second. ..I would have SO much more $$ if I'd never seen this a Game!

#111 6 years ago

I bought my GB Pro used with the intention of just keeping it a few months and then selling it. We both like the theme and we would play it at the arcade, but the difficulty and short ball times made it hard for me to justify pumping quarters upon quarters in for 30 second (or less) balls. I bought it so I could get better and I figured even if I lost a few hundred dollars on the sell price I would be money ahead when factoring in many hundreds of games. We are now approaching a thousand games played since we bought it. It's still rare that I score in the billions, but my median score has definitely jumped up and it's very rare that I get the really low scores any more.

I guess my point is that with games such as GB that are relatively difficult, tournament players may want to own it for a few months to develop better strategies. Also, it's easier to justify flipping a game for a "loss" when it's relatively expensive per minute to play it on location versus a game you can play for 10 or 20 minutes on a single credit. That is, the ROI with GB at home is much faster when a value for the number of games played is factored in, even if you take a bigger loss on the buy/sell price than you might with another title. Lower prices also make it that much easier for the next buyer to justify purchasing the game and I think that's actually healthy for the hobby.

All that being said, we aren't quite ready to get rid of our GB yet.

I've got a JJP PotC LE on order, and I have no room for it. So in the next 6 months or so I will need to sell something. GB is on my shortlist, not because I dislike it. It's a fun game, but I need room and in my line-up it's not good enough to stay

Damn you're not joking. That's a very nice collection. Not GOT?

I love mine. I think the game is a blast, I just don’t have a ton of space or cash so something has to go and it’s not going to be LOTR. If I could have a big collection it would never leave. I’m sure I’ll regret selling mine right after it goes.

#116 6 years ago

so much flame in this thread, dont know where to begin... I have GB right behind Metallica. I enjoy mine.

Stern likes to do this for some reason. Maybe they're imagining a noisy bar environment and a lazy operator that'll never mess with the settings, so they just crank it to 11 by default and figure it's better to deafen the player than not to be heard at all? Every time I update the code on my SW I suffer short-term hearing loss when I fire it up for the first time.

my best guess is its too hard for people, or their pin wasn't dialed in correctly. I almost sold mine a few months ago, as I had so many SDTM after the ball came down from the pop pumpers in the Gozer target that I couldn't stand it anymore. Literally didn't touch the pin for months. Then I swapped out the flipper bats and now its my favorite game.

#121 6 years ago

I think the game is like SW....it was a dream theme for a lot of people and those people wanted stern to make those 2 titles perfectly
Stern dropped the ball on these 2 and those who could not wait for their release seem to be dissapointed now that they have them (I know, not ALL buyers feel this way)
I doubt there a more than a handful of buyers who sold GB because the designer is an (alleged) scumbag.

Sorry but I think that you couldn’t be more wrong. First off, SW is a pretty damn good game, and I’m not even a SW fan but it shoots well and has decent code. GB isn’t perfect that’s for sure, but it’s a great game as well. It’s hard and it can be frustrating at times but it’s a lot of fun too, and it makes you a better player also. GB definitely didn’t drop the ball. It’s a beautiful game and it’s a lot of fun.

#123 6 years ago

It has been a month and I still love this game. More importantly, my family loves it. I can’t wait for the code update. The airball (especially the right loop) and outlane protectors made a world of a difference. I rarely hear complaints about the flippers. Great game!

The nerd base circle jerk over the theme I agree. SW at least has interesting rules and is fun to play; GB was a shit show from jump street.

no - has nothing to do with that. It has everything to do with incomplete code and shots that just don't feel good. It's just not a good layout and I LOVE the theme and sound - top notch!

I feel it’s the poor geometrics and people finding that out. Owned for 4 months. At first loved it, but didn’t take long before rail jumps, air balls and stuck balls in places I wouldn’t have thought a ball could get stuck happened.

exactly. I had the same experience. Really loved it but after playing a lot you realize what's going on and then that's it. I hope the code can help it but not sure as I think the geometrics will really make that challenging.

Pretty much all that can be fixed with 3 protectors. We have a premium on route and never have had a single stuck ball, and it's the most popular machine on the route. Why? I dunno. People suck at it, but they keep feeding it dollars.

I have never had a stuck ball on mine and the 2 protectors I have stopped all airballs and lane jumps. Everybody has different taste but it is a much better game than most. It's one of my favorite sterns for sure.

Everything you mentioned can be fixed and I’m not sure what you are talking about when you say poor geometries because the game shoots well. There are things that I would change about the game for sure, but it’s a pretty great game IMO. I have never had a ball stuck on my Premium either.

I’ve had my GB Premium for over a year, and while I do have some gripes (the linear code being numero uno), I still love the game and have no intention of selling it (in fact, I ordered a Laseriffic topper today).

The flipper gap doesn’t bother me one bit. The lane hops were an issue, however, so I bought the extended plastic protectors, and that cured that hiccup. I also shortened the hex spacer on the right ramp for smoother shots, and picked up an airball protector.

My machine plays great. I love the theme, the art, the music, the shots. Hell, I even like the rules... I just wish the modes themselves were more random for the sake of variety.

And Ernie Hudson signed my translite, so that’s fun...

Waited for the price to drop after the Trudeau situation and people bashing it for most of its fixable flaws, got a HUO premium for under $6000 and loving it.

#134 6 years ago

If you like it and got it cheap, great for you. Just know there are a lot of people who think it’s a Klunk fest.

Edit: Not sarcastic, I wish I could get a game I like cheap. But to assume it’s because people aren’t good at it is crazy.

There are a lot of people on here that think every game is a Klunk Fest though. Every game that gets released they instantly start bashing it.

I don’t think we can fairly and TRULY make any assumptions without a formal study or unbiased poll which won’t ever occur on the internet... but informally it does seem many people cry about the difficulty and what they perceive to be cheap drains. I don’t think “most” people call the game easy even those who love it. It has to be contributing to SOME people not liking it.

I think the answer to this thread boils down to different people like and keep different games and the reason you see “more GB for sale” might be because more people bought the game and therefore there are more to flip? I don’t have stats for that either but several Stern employee interviews I saw said it sold better than anything else has recently.

#138 6 years ago

It's just because it's a hard game with the wide flipper gap...
Leading to 'cheaper' drains.. and people feel bad after a while because the game is too hard...

You can't make stupid flips or control attemps on this game or you are punished immediately.

Gameplay is more than ok, it just needs some balancing. Scoring, skill shot importance, and an overall layer on top of it making everything count (hurry ups, scoleris, gears, ghosts, modes, ...)... towars something that could be called "are you a god"

#139 6 years ago

I really like this game. Too bad I missed out on the fair priced LEs a couple weeks ago

#140 6 years ago

I love GB. I get that it’s polarizing. However, if you can see past the unique layout that maybe isn’t the best shooter it’s got a lot going for it. Great art, sound and innovate and unique toys. I’ve had two and plan on a third at some point. There are a lot of games folks love that I don’t get. No big deal.

I dunno, but After playing it on location a handful of times I just got an LE and really like it. Great gameplay, artwork, light show, and sounds - especially connected to an external sub. There definitely aren’t a whole lot of LE’s for sale though, and there has been nothing available on the West Coast to pick up in person. I had to ship mine in which I really don’t like to do, but it went smoothly thank goodness (and thank GAP!). Prices are creeping back up if you can find one though, and sellers don’t want to deal much. Well worth the effort and expense though, it’s not going anywhere for a long time

Make sure you read the thread called “Ghostbusters Club-We got one” so you can learn a lot of little tricks to make your game play better. GB can be frustrating but about anything that bugs you about the game can be fixed easily. Make sure you reverse the sling rubbers to make the magna slings more active too. That’s one of the best mods you can do and it’s free. Congrats on your new game!
