I must be the only one who finds this less egregious than the prevailing lemming-like method of rating games in general. It seems many people have already formed their opinion before ever putting their fingers on the flipper buttons.

Those enamored with the thought of playing a highly rated pin will inevitably rate it artificially high. Those that have read negative things about a pin will carry that bias with them during their first (and probably only) play and subsequent rating.

The monkey comment should be removed solely because it's a petty insult. But that's not really what this thread is about. It's about calling for moderating/eliminating ratings that don't jibe with the board consensus.

Immediately below the monkey guys rating for MM is one that just says "best pinball machine" and is rated 10's across the board. Is this not just as egregious and in fact, much more common?

Exactly. There are countless worse ratings violations (one game on one pin they were expecting to hate and then they rate it poorly), but when someone doesn't appreciate a consensus title the ranks of the "thought police" swell.

Moderating name calling, combativeness and childishness are one thing, but the calls for moderating opinions are entirely another.
