“Stainless Maiden” may have a different connotation, but I can work with that.

Working in garage so decided to use youtube app ad my radio. Typed in jimmy buffett playlist and first one I saw had 387 tracks!!!!
Guessing there are a couple fans still out there
At least one of them must be into pinball
Feelin all alone on here...there HAS to be more parrot heads lurking in here!?
"Better watch my step, if the floor caves in, I'll go right straight to hell...there were pinball machines and....."
See, EVEN JB likes pinball!!!
I'm a fan. My dad brought his mom to one of Jimmy's shows back when it was just him and maybe a drummer touring around gulf coast. My grandma dug it until he started singing "why don't we get drunk..." and she was out of there
I grew up listening to JB on vinyl. Still have a few of his kicking around in storage somewhere. My kids know all the lyrics to the big classics.
I'd play the heck out of a JB game.

That's awesome! While not a youngster anymore, I'm too young to have ever been able to experience early stuff...that would have been so cool to see him in his early days...love song and all
Glad to hear that another generation knows the classics as well
Thanks for sharing!
Quoted from JerryB:I doubt most people would be hard pressed to name more than 3 or 4 of his songs, let alone any of his less commercial efforts.
Most music aficionados, if pressed, could come up with Cheeseburger in Paradise and Margaritaville. The average guy walking the street would either say "the singer" or "Who is Jimmy Buffet".
He's got a large following of hardcore fans, but they operate in a echo chamber... the simply don't understand or accept that most people have no idea who he is. I'd bet that less than 1% of the under 40 crowd could identify a single song or see a photo and be able to identify him.

I think it would be more than the 1% mainly due to the fact that every major resort area in the US or Caribbean have some piece of the margaritaville/landshark lager franchise. Whether it’s a hotel resort, restaurant, landshark bar and grill, casino etc.... it’s pretty widespread now and big Sirius/Xm radio exposure with his own channel for the last 20 years.
Consistently in the top 20 grossing tours every year as well.
There is an interesting parallel here though. Pinball is another community with hardcore followers operating in an echo chamber, most under 35 years old have no idea what a pinball machine is.
You need a license to chill!

I'll modify my earlier statement-- "the singer", "who is Jimmy Buffet" and "oh, the restaurant". Sirius? You can't be serious! The day Howard Stern retires is the beginning of the end for satellite radio.
Quoted from Psw757:Consistently in the top 20 grossing tours every year as well.
Oh, I don't doubt that. He's quite popular with his fanbase. My point being that his fans are BIG fans... and he's fairly obscure with the rest of the population.

I deal with young people every day. They all, to a person, know what pinball is. Many have never played, and the majority don't understand the appeal of playing a huge machine when you can do the "same thing" on a tablet or phone.
Who's Howard Stern? Is he related to Gary?
At work, when I'm at a customer's premise, I listen to what they have on. Jimmy Buffett still gets airplay on mainstream Pop Radio Stations, teens and 20somethings still sing along to his music.
Quoted from JerryB:Jimmy Buffett still gets airplay on mainstream Pop Radio Stations, teens and 20somethings still sing along to his music.
You can't possibly believe this. He's VERY RARELY played on commercial radio at all, and then relegated to the classic rock stations... and only the two songs that I mentioned before.
He receives absolutely no airplay on pop stations. Hasn't since the 70s.
Quoted from drsfmd:You can't possibly believe this. He's VERY RARELY played on commercial radio at all
In the last decade or so, I heard him a lot in duets(I lived in Kansas at the time and in public it's mostly county stations). I noticed that they would play his more country like tunes on a regular basis after he was singing with people like Zack Brown.
The other place I hear him regularly is classic pop.
I'm not saying he's a major pop artist. He's not. But I do think he's more widely known than one might expect, given the niche genre he lives in.
That being said, he is extremely well known in the pinball target demographic. And he's willing to license anything, so I would not in the least be surprised to see a JB branded machine doing well.
Country and "classic" stations, are VERY different than pop radio. Jimmy Buffet hasn't had a hit since long before anyone playing on pop radio was even born.
Ultimately, even talking about him is dredging up another 70s retread. I'd much rather see original themes in pinball anyway, but if we can't have that, there should at least be more contemporary themes.
Quoted from drsfmd:Jimmy Buffet hasn't had a hit since long before anyone playing on pop radio was even born.
Just a tad off on that statement you think?
Even if that were true, who cares. People constantly talk about other bands that haven't done anything at all in decades...and he is still making music and enjoying many song conglomerations with many popular bands.
Not worth even getting into though. Your welcome to your opinions.
But hey, thanks for pursuing bad vibes for no reason on here. Deja Deja Deja Vu....

Yet he has amassed an empire - where he is worth $600 million on those two songs. His reported gross sales for his businesses were $2.5 billion in 2017 and has been growing exponentially over the last ten years. Obviously, someone is paying attention and knows who he is.
His products are available everywhere from the Dollar Store to Wal Mart, Target, your grocery store, Menards, liquor stores, bars, restaurants, resorts, casinos, and lifestyle communities.
I said it earlier - he is no longer a singer/songwriter. He is a BRAND.
My favorite quote - he was just back from surfing and the reporter asked what he was doing next. He said "What I do best, spending your money foolishly". That's the character he portrays. But, he admits that he gets up in the morning, does a light workout, and works several hours with his business partners.
A pinball machine would just be another of his hundreds of products sold to people who want to be part of the lifestyle/brand that he is selling - and from the sales, MANY are buying into. That's Jimmy Buffett today, not the guy with a couple of songs few know.
Quoted from drsfmd:I'd bet that less than 1% of the under 40 crowd could identify a single song or see a photo and be able to identify him.
The idea that nobody under 40 knows who Jimmy Buffett is (which is preposterous, btw) doesn't preclude him from being the subject of a pinball machine. The under-40 crowd isn't your target demo for $10k LE in-home pinball machine purchases anyway - a consideration that any manufacturer is going to look at.

Want to hear a bad idea for a pinball machine? Build a pinball based on what is popular on current pop radio today:
If I hear "Shape of You" one more time, someone is gonna pay. Also, this ISN'T Jimmy Buffett
I'm not disagreeing with part of your premise, though: would this theme be interesting to enough pinball players to justify production?
I honestly don't know if a Buffett machine would sell, but I do think that a Buffett or tropical pinball machine would be an interesting subject. Palm trees, beaches, boats, etc. Lots of unexplored (or under-explored) tropes that aren't currently represented in the marketplace. Plus, the possibility of people in his (admittedly deep) fanbase that would purchase a $10k machine who aren't already pinball fans might help sales.
As others have noted, Buffett's brand isn't hurting for revenue so the question any designer would have to ask is whether or not such a machine could sell enough to justify a steep licensing fee. Dunno.

I think it would sell if it is a well designed fun to play pinball machine..... isn't that how everyone one is justifying Iron Maiden and a second POTC pin since so many think all the movies suck. I can go on and on.
What is unqiue about a jimmy Buffett or margaritaville themed machine is that it potentially introduces a lot of people to the hobby because there are a lot of margaritaville themed locations that surely will have one or more to play. Not too many other titles even have that as an opportunity with the exception of Disney titles.
Quoted from Psw757:I think it would sell if it is a well designed fun to play pinball machine..... isn't that how everyone one is justifying Iron Maiden and a second POTC pin since so many think all the movies suck.
This is why I would be terrible as a marketing professional. Never would I have thought, "you know what we should make, another Pirates of the Caribbean game!"

Is our discussion of a Jimmy Buffett theme precluding the development of the highly anticipated Justin Bieber/Taylor swift machine?
Quoted from pacmanretro:Just a tad off on that statement you think?
Not at all. Pop stations play current tunes, and rarely venture out of the current top 100. This Just ne it will be 40 years since Jimmy Buffet made it to the billboard charts on his own (I’m not counting the country songs he was involved with- they weren’t played on pop radio).
He’s got a big following, and he’s made a lot of money. Does that translate into likely pinball sales? I’m not confident of that... still, it may be a better idea than Iron Maiden or Rush, both of whom are decades past their expiration dates.

He has a HUGE following with a demographic of people that have $$$.
Would translate into a huge sales success. No offense to Alice Cooper, I like him too but Spooky would sell 10x Buffet pins versus AC.
And maybe the license would be too costly or unobtainable.
I'd be in for a Jimmy Buffett pinball. Could be a lot of fun! And everybody young and old knows Margaritaville, but who can say they will remember one pop song from 3 years ago that will be known or cared about in 30-40 years?

Him, on his own...not 200 chart but 100 chart, yes...it's been a long time for a single song of his own to make main stream pop top 100. Not 40 years...and not for an overall album, and yes with others it has been within last couple years...
Your trying to make some trivial point to bring yourself up at the expense of other mellow people trying to enjoy their own thing. Your facts are exaggerated and pointless and I fail to see why you care.
Feel free to drain this topic.
How about a "Great Filling Station Jackpot"!
Have to collect 15 dollars, a can of STP, big ol jar of cashew nuts, and a Japanese TV!

I don't think it's a trivial point at all. 2 minutes use of the Billboard search engine gave me all the information that I needed.
Let's remove the three songs that have charted in recent years with country artists:
It's Five O'Clock Somewhere - Alan Jackson & Jimmy Buffett - Peaked at #17 on 9.6.2003
Hey Good Lookin' - Jimmy Buffett With Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith & George Strait - Peaked at #63 on 7.3.2004
Knee Deep- Zac Brown Band Featuring Jimmy Buffett - Peaked at #18 on 8.6.2011
Of the remainder, I've reordered them chronologically.
Come Monday- Peaked at #30 on 7.13.1974
Margaritaville - Peaked at #8 on 7.23.1977
Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes - Peaked at #37 on 11.5.1977
Cheeseburger In Paradise - Peaked at #32 on 6.17.1978
Livingston Saturday Night - Peaked at #52 on 9.9.1978
Fins - Peaked at #35 on 11.3.1979
Mañana - Peaked at #84 on 12.9.1978
Volcano - Peaked at #66 on 1.19.1980
Survive - Peaked at #77 on 3.29.1980
It's My Job - Peaked at #57 on 3.28.1981
Ok... so I owe you an apology. it's been 13,502 days since Jimmy Buffet last had a hit. That's not 40 years, it's only 36 years, 11 months and 16 days. Be "mellow" and "enjoy your thing", but also understand that as a pin theme, this will fall as flat as the PBR Can Crusher.

We are talking about a pinball machine. If it shoots well and is unique with good rules and art then it will sell regardless of the title.... this is a fact folks... no fake spin here.
Jimmy Buffett and the Margaritaville Brand are more relevant in 2018 than Iron Maiden,Black Sabbathand Alice Cooper ever were.

I don't disagree on this point. Have to add Rush to that list as well. That, IMO would be the absolute worst of the themes we commonly see people kicking around.

Make the pin for the massive amount of people that would buy it including myself. Not this clueless guy, move on to the next thread Debbie Downer, you are in the extreme minority, get it?
I made a promise to myself to quit Buffett at the end of the 2000 tour at Great Woods (Boston) Labor Day weekend concert if he didn't play something new and different.
I'll be damned if he didn't play 'Please Come to Boston' by Dave Loggins. According to Setlist.com that's the only show he ever played that song.

See, reverend Jimmy saved you almost 18 years ago!
His musical “Escape to Margaritaville” just opened on Broadway. Night one, they set the record at the bar and drank them out of Triple Sec (used to make Margaritas). Night two, set a new record.
Buffett said there are 1800 hotel rooms and six bars in the building above the theater for “vertical tailgating” for fans coming to the show.
When asked about the show, Buffett said he was selling FUN.
This would not be a typical Stern superhero or rock music machine.
It should have have some prick in an Audi cutting everyone off and yelling obscenities because he’s late to his big business meeting but then when 5pm Friday hits he’s all margaritas and flip flops.

GOSH! Don't ANY of those people understand that Jimmy Buffett isnt popular!????
Lol.
That is really cool though! Hopefully there will be some YouTube videos or something soon...would love to check it out!

On a different note, I have been wanting to do a retheme for a long time....if anyone in my general area has a trashed but complete em that would be a good candidate, for a retheme...please let me know...maybe I can start my own one off EM Buffet game for now.....
Always liked single player pins (williams especially), but unsure exactly want I want to use. Not a high priority project at the moment, but figured maybe I would mention it.
Cant promise anything will happen too quick, but promise I will post my work
Hi guys , I Am one of the few lucky ones that is involved in the Margritiville resort going into orlando . It’s a combination of one of his hotels that is also paired with its own private neighborhood . The homes are being built for residents and short term vacations . I’m the gameroom and theming vendor for all the homes , so any arcade , pinball , bars , custom rooms are done by my company . I can tell you right now that there would be a big interest in a JB pinball . I have already have clients going to purchase the new JJ Pirates pin for there rentals because they love that the pirates theme fits jimmy buffet . I’m actually going to reach out to a few people to see if this could actually happen. I can already see what the demand could be just by asking my clients that I’m currently designing rooms for . The demo graphic is perfect for who would buy this game . Parrot heads love anything jimmy buffet and alot of them have the money to buy it . If any manufacture is following this thread pm me and let’s talk . I can get a real gage of interest to see if this could work and also have a way to the imaging and license department . I honestly think this could have some wheels on it even if it was a low production like WNBJM. Of course this is my opinion for what that is worth . Fins Up
Fins to the left, Fins to the right Phat!
That project sounds awesome, keep us posted. I'll be a visitor when its done for sure.
Let's all mount a campaign to get this pin made by somebody!
I think Whizbang would be great for this personally! I love my Whoa nelly along with everyone that sees it and plays it . I just talked to a few people and me getting ahold of the licensing and imaging department won’t be a problem . I’m pretty sure I could get at least a interest for around 200/400 units . There are over 800 homes in this one project alone with talks of more resort / neighbors to come . I might even be able to offer it as part of a furniture package . Just throwing it out there ! Fins Up!

That is a pretty sweet project...
I really don't see why this would need to be a small production run machine. This title has such a great commercial platform above and beyond just your standard location machines. Buffett has bars, hotels, casinos and now resort/retirement communities to go along with all the new customers(parrot heads) that will buy anything Jimmy/margaritaville related because they can. If it is a good playin machine regardless of theme, pinheads will buy it!
I hope this does get some traction, there is a shit ton of fun stuff to choose from in making this machine.
I'm Havana Daydreaming!
The Orlando project is getting 200-400 homes. The "active living" community in Daytona sold out of the first 225 units the first day and has a capacity for 7000 homes when completed. The Hilton Head community was recently announced - another 3000 homes when completed.
No I was saying as of right now I could possible secure around 200/400 units . There are going to be more than that many at the orlando project not sure of the final units when totally completed . Really depends on home and lot sizes . I’m just going by percentage of home buyers that are purchasing arcade and gameroom equipment for their rental properties.
