Title changed from "why not" to "Ideas for" to help clarify the point of thread. Thanks, I'm sure a manatee somewhere appreciates it.

Jimmy Buffett is an amazing artist FAR beyond margaritaville...

He has dozens and dozens of albums (like 40! Thats right....EVERYBODY knows a couple songs....but he has almost 40!!!!).

I know Margaritaville is probably way too expensive a licence...and this was touched on mildly in a thread a few years ago. BUT, I would LOVE to hear people's ideas for a Buffett pinball!!

And not just A title songs....I love it all...lets here some B side title (or less!) Ideas to put into a pinball

Some gypsies in the palace...This Hotel room (I know that one was a cover)...captain america....many more.

But would love to include things like we are the people...barefoot children...fruitcakes, etc (of course ANYTHING on songs you know by heart). Ok, everyone gets the point....JB is the man...there are other many great Calypso/steel drum bands as well!

He is so much more about the mindset of relaxing more than even the music.

Ohh, and absolutely have to incorporate Pirate looks at 40...´for anyone that may be comin around that bend of life´..."my occupational hazzard being my occupation's just not around"...seems to hit home for this pinball coin op tech geek

Sooo....what have you got? Obviously pin would have to have a blender, lost shaker of salt, a cheeseburger, a sea plane, and a land shark

But what kind of modes or shots etc??

"Magic fingers make you feel alright"
    -This Hotel Room.

I’ve been saying this for a while. The guy has licensed everything from beer to tequila/rum, blenders, has grills, furniture, headphones... I can go on and on.

What’s not to like, Pirates, planes, boats, volcanos, cheeseburgers, booze, blenders, sharks and it’s always 5:00 somewhere!

This would be the ultimate music pin with an endless amount of toy ideas!

I think this would be a perfect theme & time to kick some old school SS from Stern.

I WISH Stern could get a title like JB!...but man, what an AWESOME machine JJP could do with the theme!

    Ugghhhhhhh. Cheeseburger vomit

    Well...find a different song...roughly 1 or 2 others out there....Maybe fruitcake vomit!?

Because they don't want to make a shit load of $$$?

Parrotheads would buy just to have it and its the right demographic.

I'll take two thank you. Also been saying its a no brainer for years.

Spooky needs to do this one. Veer off a little bit from the head banger stuff.

I liked the bubble in my head of awesome videos etc on a JJP, but not going to lie....Charlie was the first person that popped in my head! If they did it, I would be honored to drive over there to do a little "volunteer work".
While I understand those guys are a smaller boutique, man do I love their ideas and what they do!

I don't know, what about a "PinaColadaBerg" version - lol - (Club Dread reference)

That's in the next Bill Paxton code update

I'd take a little bit of "Door Number Three". Have three lanes to shoot for Door #1, or #2 or #3 with different points behind each door.

Don't forget "Why Don't We Get Drunk".....with a waterbed hurry up.

    #12 6 years ago

Don't forget a "Fins" mode with alternating left and right shots.

I doubt most people would be hard pressed to name more than 3 or 4 of his songs, let alone any of his less commercial efforts.

Love the idea of having a Volcano blow!

Honestly mean this as my personal opinion - But so does KISS.

The only difference is that from the KISS albums, there’s enough to fill an entire pin with songs with enough left over to still be desired (where’s Strutter?!?!?).

Meanwhile Buffett has, as you say, a few songs over 40 albums people know.

I think you answered your own question.

    #15 6 years ago

Sorry to rain on your cheeseburger, but the only thing lamer than a Jimmy Buffet pin would be a UB40 pin...

    #16 6 years ago

Old dude title, perhaps? Not sure that's the direction Stern would want to take. But I guess I'm an old dude because this would be an awesome theme.

    #17 6 years ago

A Jimmy Buffett pinball machine would sell out in 1978; shortly after the release of his 7th album, Son of a Son of a Sailor

    #18 6 years ago

Will it come with a shaker or will you have to search for one?

    #19 6 years ago
    Quoted from TimO:

Will it come with a shaker or will you have to search for one?

It would also need a shaker for when the volcano blows.

    #20 6 years ago

Changes in latitudes changes in attitudes was most likly his peak album. Pretty much every song is good. Definitely his earlier stuff is better.. most people have no idea..

I think you answered your own question.

In the last several years, he has made or been a part of many very big songs....when was the last super hit Kiss put out? Not that Kiss hasn't had a lot and certainly more well known. There are definitely younger and older generations that know both.

I did not "answer my own question". What I meant was he has quite a few big songs that a LOT of people know (plenty for a pinball), a TON of lesser known good music, and a couple songs EVERYBODY knows; Didn't mean nobody knows any other songs.

If I chat with someone about music and all the Buffett that is referenced is about a margaritas or a cheesburger, then I know they are probably not into his music that much.

I honestly believe both bands have plenty to offer music wise for a machine. Toys and modes for a Buffet pin....man there is a lot to work with there.

Possibly the worst title i could ever imagine! Please lord, no!

    #23 6 years ago

I love to see a Grateful Dead pin or even Phish ... and if they really wanted to get things excited ..How about an NWA pin ..that would be crazy

Jimmy Buffett would be a dream theme, right next to Toy Story.

    #28 6 years ago

There are enough fans with plenty of money for a boutique run. We flock to his restaurant chains, resorts, casinos, and now his retirement (50+) communities. We buy his labeled foods, beverages, beers and liquors, and $500 margarita machines. He is a marketing genius and has parlayed one song into a net worth of more than $600 million.

Could it make it as a location game - i’m not so sure. But, there are plenty of cool toy possibilities to excite non-fans. As a boutique game, this would be a home run.

One post through his social media outlets and connected fan outlets would hit several million people in an instant. The median income and lifestyle of his connected fans is staggering. Who of his fans wouldn’t want a Buffett pin in their home Margaritaville themed tiki bar?

    #29 6 years ago

Might be oldish music however the lifestyle of margaritaville isn’t..

Seen him over 20 times in concert and it’s a very wide age demographic and probably one of the craziest tailgates you’ve ever seen from 40’ boats on trailers in the parking lot to high end motor coaches and swimming pools in the back of trucks.

    Good times!

    #30 6 years ago

To put an age around some of these replies about demographic, I'm 35 and I'd rather take an ice pick to the ears than listen to buffet. I don't get what the fascination is with his crappy music.

I'm 33 and love his music. I've been to 4 concerts and will be 5 this year. So...

    #32 6 years ago

There is no denying that he has a rabid fan base with deep pockets.

    #33 6 years ago

Hit the "come back " drops to start shitty day in paradise multiball.

    Love the steel drums!!

Go to a show, get there at about 8am and you will very quickly understand.

It’s funny, I’ve taken at least 4-5 people to a show with us and they were instantly converted. It’s friggin mad insane!

    #35 6 years ago

For anyone who thinks Jimmy Buffett is a has been or even a never really was. He's still touring, currently for 2018 there are 22 US stadium/arena dates and 4 shows in Paris, France. Most, if not all will be near sell out crowds and you will see every age group, including grandparents with their kids and grandkids.

I have to admit... I got dragged to a Buffett show by some hardcore fans and there's really no other concert experience like it in the hundreds if not thousands of shows I've seen. First they told me we were bringing a grill and a keg and aiming to get there by 10am for an evening show. Then we kept getting passed on the highway by minivans with shark fins and crazy people hanging out the windows. The parking lot was a zoo by noon, people sharing drinks and food and wandering around like nutjobs. Fucking truckloads of sand dumped to make beaches -- in Camden, New Jersey of all places! It was quite the day. Honestly, I could see going just to tailgate and then heading home when the show starts.

I don't own any of his albums, the only two songs I adore are "Pirate Looks at Forty" and "God's Own Drunk" but there's no getting around the appeal of the theme to a wide variety of people who are, shall we say, pinball aged. I could see them selling particularly well to resorts and beach town hangouts where they'd pull quarters out of pockets like crazy and still have a good resale value down the road.

    #38 6 years ago

I'm 32 and would take Buffett over Iron Maiden any day of the week.

Also, as a side note, apart from all the other stuff he has going, there is also a new Broadway show called "Escape from Margarita ville" that is very popular. I think that alone shows JB is still very relevant. He came out at end of the show I went to and was selling signed posters with the cast to raise funds for Hurricane Harvey relief...

The guy is a pure genius story teller and built a empire off of a song name.
It’s really amazing and it isn’t all about the music but a state of mind/lifestyle. The songs are all unique because they are actual stories which is what makes them great.

The cool thing about it is that it’s all fun entertaining things he is involved in. He is like an old kid!

    #41 6 years ago

His music is just a small part. It's a $1.5 billion dollar a year brand. As stated above, it's a state of mind/lifestyle that even non-fans have embraced.

If a machine was made, I wouldn't expect it to be a Jimmy Buffett machine. I'd expect it to be an Escape to Margaritaville machine.

If Stern, JJP, Spooky, or others wanted to make a sizable run of machines, Buffet could be that theme. A well designed, colorful machine with plenty of toys and a good selection of his music would be a big seller for the 40+ crowd with some disposable income. Besides all his fan and media outlet exposure that a pin could be marketed on, a Buffet pin could be on display at his restaurants, as merchandise that could be delivered to customers homes.
Not to mention the number of pins that could be put on location at bars and restaurants around the coastlines or anywhere there is a "margaritaville" type theme going on.
I'd believe the number of Buffett pins that would go to new owners or 1 pin collector (non pinhead) homes or basements would far exceed the number of what Kiss, AS, Rob Zombie, and (probably) ACNC would sell combined in a similar situation.

Yes, the actual name wouldn't matter, so long as it has the theme and that it is branded as official Jimmy Buffet merchandise. Make it a great game and even the theme 'dislikers' would be in!

    #43 6 years ago

You know the really cool thing about this idea is that if it were proposed I guarantee he would be all over it and would probably even be willing to do call outs etc.... he’s a cool approachable dude and it’s his thing.

There is so much material and ideas with this one it’s unreal.

I can see it now - a volcano multi ball that erupts red magma colored balls to the rumbling of the shaker motor - tell me that wouldn’t be sweet

Hurricane feature with lightning light effects!

    #44 6 years ago

This could/should be JJPs first music pin

Not sure Spooky guys appreciate the music

I see Slayer or Megadeth or any other metal band for them in the future unfortunately

I would go full payment right now

    #45 6 years ago

Would def need a Capt Tony’s Key West bar toy

All the drinking mode songs for that one

Some sort of saloon ball lock or something along those lines. Last mango in Paris mode!

    #47 6 years ago

The only reason I can think of why not is I really don't need to go back to drinking excessive amounts of tequila and gin again or spend one more night in the city jail because of that.

    #48 6 years ago

Why don't we get drunk and flip.

    #49 6 years ago

My first concert was a Jimmy Buffett concert at the Tangerine bowl in 1978. Jimmy had a busted leg and sang sitting on a bar stool while the audience stood in the rain. Never will forget that.

A Jimmy Buffett pinball machine would be a slam dunk.

    #50 6 years ago
    Quoted from BlueIrocGuy:

a Buffett pin could be on display at his restaurants,

He only owns the Key West and Orlando Margaritaville locations. He opened many, road the wave to the top, and when he and his team thought they had peaked, he sold the rest. Of course, he still collects a franchise fee for everything sold there.

5 O'clock Somewhere multi-ball - lock the balls in the (trademarked) Margaritaville blender, spin the balls, and release them in a frenzy - maybe in different directions?

The flippers are shark fins - fins to the left, fins to the right...
