While it looks odd to have a Premium->No Premium->Premium model, fact is based on their designer rotation X-Men was actually scheduled to release before ACDC but due to circumstances they went with ACDC first. I heard X-Men was simply never designed with Premium in mind.

As someone mentioned before it they have been trying different marketing strategies, and "The Pin" is just another example.
