Quoted from Chambahz:

Pinside is pretty much the perfect test market to bounce their ideas off of and yet it's more as though they don't trust us or fear us. Can you blame them?
A friend of mine met one of the designers. He said that they pour their heart and soul into their work and can't stand all the negativity.

Trust??? We don't trust them.
ST LE has been out over a year, and there are features that have 0 code for them.
Pride, heart, and soul...
We wait years to get finished code.
We are tired of the BS.
They treat their customers like crap.

Quoted from snyper2099:

Ok, that's fine. Your point is well taken. However, you don't have to buy their games.
Please don't blame the programmers. They do NOT get to just pick what to work on, they are told what to work on. You know, like when you work for someone and get paid. The people that sign the paychecks and such.

Most of my comments are aimed at Gary Stern.
Code on ST isn't great, programmers wrote the code.

#42 9 years ago

He needs to hire more programmers for legacy games.
Waiting 6 months to a year for code is ridiculous.
I am not talking about code every week.
Features should have code coming out of the box.
There is no excuse for bad customer service.

They = Stern management and Jody the Monkey as well.

I also want to point out that a lot of the programing that makes games amazing is NEVER paid for in full by Stern. A lot of the highly refined and finished Stern titles are worked on "after hours" by dedicated people who care more about pinball than money.

I don't have to buy their games, but I am stuck with ST, and the code isn't great.
If I sell it, I am going to lose money.
I want Stern to make the code incredible.
I won't buy another Stern.

Quoted from snyper2099:

Man, I just can't refrain from responding to this ignorant comment:
"I still get to demand a decent working game after paying 8k for it and it has nothing to do with how much respect I have for them."
No you do not. You get "THE CODE" and "THE GAME" that you paid for on the day the game was 8K and NOTHING MORE! If they release code updates, it's a bonus.
Or did you get some "special agreement' in writing, promising you updates after you buy?
You need to wake the f up. Wait til the game is done and then play it to decide if you're mad about spending 8K for it.

Most software manufacturers update their code over time.
Even video games...
If they didn't fix their software, they wouldn't be in business anymore.

I have news for you.
The code has flaws.
Steve admitted to the problems at an Expo in November, and extra features do absolutely nothing.
It is called good customer service for a luxury item.
You might like bad service.
I expect good customer service.

#51 9 years ago

It is called taking care of your customers.

#54 9 years ago

Customer service includes product support.
Code is part of the product.
They don't owe us anything, but that attitude is going to sink their company.
Competition will catch up to them eventually, and will listen to what customers want from pins.
Fixing the code is in their best interest like software and video game manufacturers.
I am not going to stand up for a company that acts like a turd towards customers.
You love Stern, and can spew that opinion.

#56 9 years ago

Bravo Aurich Bravo!!!
You hit the nail on the head.
This is business, and customers deserve good service for products at a pin level.

#59 9 years ago

Steve Ritchie is on my side. He's the one publicly calling the game "broken", on stage, in front of a live audience.
Aurich,
Do you feel confident that Star Trek is going to get better code?

Quoted from Chambahz:

Perfect example.
This is at least the second time you have insulted Jody. In another thread, you posted a picture of a monkey as well, stating it was Jody.
GROW UP already!
Your StarTrek code will probably get an update sometime. Stern produces multiple games every year, and they have other things on their plate. DEAL WITH IT.
You alone are to blame for buying a pin that you don't like.
Either cut your losses by selling it, or enjoy it as is and be patient.
Anyone curious as to why Stern doesn't update us on their actions can thank clowns like this.
Personally I don't like dealing with children either. Yes, I understand you would like your code finished.
That's understandable of course. Having this arrogant attitude of insulting Stern employees probably won't help that happen.

I think you are whining about people being dissatisfied with their purchase.
If you are happy with Stern, so be it.
But not everyone feels like you do.
You are attacking us because we aren't Koolaid drinkers like you.
You need to grow up because you don't respect other opinions.
I call Jody a monkey because she deletes every message that isn't 100% flattery for Stern.
A person can right a comment like "I hope Star Trek code comes soon", and she deletes it.
She is like a winged monkey from Oz silencing customers.
They could use feedback on their Facebook site to improve their company.
They need to listen to their customers.

Chambahz,

I think you are a clown as well.
It takes one to know one.

Quoted from Aurich:

FYI Jody is a he, not a she.

Aurich,

Thanks!!!

Quoted from DNO:

Jody is a dude. And a damn nice guy.
This thread, and the responses in it, answer the OPs question perfectly.
Stay classy Pinside.
Oh yeah, Star Trek earns great on location!

I am a collector like other people.
You are an operator, and don't care about the code.
As long as the machine is making money, you have no problems.
Jody deletes a lot of messages, some are concerns and comments that aren't caustic.
That is ignoring the customer, thus silencing them.
He might be a nice person, but deleting messages that aren't 100% flattery is ridiculous.

Quoted from westofrome:

I posted this in the other code thread, but seriously:
Stern's customers are the distributors. Rather than call Stern, call your distro and say you're not buying again unless code is complete. Tell them to pass that along to Stern. Then actually follow through.
Tired of having Facebook comments deleted? If you delete some revenue from their balance sheet that will get their attention.

Will distros listen to 1 person?
If other people are buying nib, distros aren't going to be too concerned.
I talked to my salesperson about the problems, and he listened to me and understands where I am coming from, but he isn't going to react until sales plummet.
My distro is located in a high rent district area.
Rich people buy what they want, and sell it back at a loss for another nib pin.

Quoted from DNO:

As Mike said, I am a player as well, and love playing games that have great code.
But not ONE of my customers has ever complained of code issues. (even going back to SM ver1.0)
Would anyone coming over to play your collection even notice a thing about the code??
(if you didn't mention it)
You are buying commercial machines, and then acting like they are supposed to be some custom, personalized effort made just for you.
And how do you know it's Jody? Maybe his boss told him to clean house on the company FB page?
Now, lets switch to how important the home collector is to Stern, and how they saved pinball....

There are features on the LE without code.
That isn't a custom request.
People want the features operational.
Bugs need to be fixed.
People at an establishment aren't going to complain because they don't own the machine.
They throw a few quarters in the machine, and their investment in the pin is over.
They probably play 20 or more machines, but they aren't buying them.
More private people are buying machines, and Stern needs to support their products.
They don't want to hear suggestions or criticism on their Facebook.
Stern thinks their crap doesn't stink.
That attitude is going to hurt them in the long run.
Customers deserve good support.
No excuses accepted.
