Bought my first pin about 6 months ago not knowing much but it seemed weird for me that my playfield had a house on it, like wtf does a house have to do with Hulk?. I then quickly realized that someone had covered up the playfield. After much scrubbing I found a damaged but WAY better playfield. LIKE WTF?. Lol. I live close to the Quebec border so I'm wondering if it was a language thing as all the lettering was covered. Anyhow, the touch ups will commence soon but what a difference.

Strange. Nice work cleaning it up. I love the art on that playfield, back glass too.

Crazy, someone painted over perfectly good artwork. It’s almost as though they didn’t want it to be a Hulk game.

#4 3 years ago

How did you get the paint off without removing the original paint?

HULK SMASH TINY HOUSE

Looks like the homepin logo

Magic eraser with dabs of rubbing alcohol on it. I went through like 20 of them. Thank god it was acrelic paint.

I know, it's insane.

Interesting. Perhaps someone was exercising their artistic interpretation of something we cannot perceive. It is indeed a mystery why people might choose to do things like this...

#12 3 years ago

It's like finding a Pollock behind the Dogs Playing Poker art you bought in a garage sale.

#13 3 years ago

Im sorry you all dont like my art . Im just not a fan of the Hulk. Too sexual IMO.

#14 3 years ago

I doubt it was a language thing, they didn't seem to have covered the rest of the text.

Perhaps someone had a kid that thought the Hulk was scary or something, and preferred to paint over him rather than get rid of the game?

#15 3 years ago

Wow, very impressive and a lot of elbow grease I'm sure. Perhaps it would work on this one that was painted by a youth church group?

That crossed my mind as well. Too scary for a kid.

Damn. Yeah, lots of scrubbing and rubbing alcohol. I ended up buying the generic magic erasers from amazon. Pack of 25 was fairly priced. Nothing else worked as well. Tried a rag with paint thinner but that failed.

Good luck.

When I was a little kid my neighbor told me he turned down the role of the Incredible Hulk because they wanted him to paint his entire body green. I was probably 7 or 8 years old at the time. He told me “there’s no way I was painting my balls green and that’s why they gave the role to Lou Ferrigno”.
As a little kid that sounded believable.
It wasn’t until I was in my teenage years that I realized he just liked fucking with me.

Funny you should say that, I picked up a Future Spa that was in a church basement for years. Hahaha

I would venture to guess that many times, the results of removing something like this on the playfield would not yield the nice looking results that you encountered.

Hahahaha hahaha. That's hilarious. No green balls, just blue.

That's why I was scared to even attempt it but hey, I figured anything was nicer that that dumb house. I started with the top left Hulk and when it was in great condition I figure I'd try another spot and kept going.

I mean, there is damage but that ugly paint job kinda protected the rest of it. Haha

This worked great. I just removed some crap touch ups from a cabinet and playfield using this method. Thanks man

No problem. Joe's Classic video games channel on YouTube uses that method. I borrowed that from him. Lol

Quick update. I decided to try airbrushing for the 1st time, it's not a perfect match but I'm not doing a full restoration so I'm happy. Also for shits and giggles, Hulk now has a red thumbnail. Hahahaahh

I have a scan of my stripped Hulk playfield if you would like for art reference, not perfect but pretty good.

Another update. So hard to color match white and yellow crud love, . Getting there. My biggest challenge is those damn numbers. My penmanship is horrible.

Just topped her off with a layer of lacker. She's all done. What a difference.

What kind of laquer did you use and how did you apply it? I think it came out nice for your first shot at air brushing. Almost gives me the courage to try it myself.

Light sanding, cleanup, waxed and she's all done. What a difference. It might be too much green lol...I have to change the bulbs.

It was fine and dark when she was a mess but now I can display it properly.

Color bombing. Not using white in GI so you can actually see the machine and art.

You're just a ray of sunshine aren't ya?. I'm gonna play around with it until I find something that I like. Thanks for sharing

#46 3 years ago

I would light it with warm whites - there is plenty of color on that playfield. Just my 2 cents.

Back glass is a bit too much as well...maybe try to tone it down a bit?

Overall very nice looking restore!!!

Put in some warm white leds. It looks way better. Thanks for being part of my journey everyone. Cheers.
