There's a lot more competition. If a craigslist ad has been up 15 minutes, you're already too late by about 50 people.

Sometimes the hording starts because some folks enjoy the thrill of bargain hunting. And then the obtained item kind of becomes a trophy with a story behind it.
This one just popped up a few hours ago, but was gone in less than 30 minutes. Project Gottlieb Hollywood Heat for $350:

There are bargains out there--it's just that everybody recognizes them as bargains, so they aren't available for long.
Quoted from DCfoodfreak:The tree has just been shaken hard. Lots of games are falling out for sale suddenly. I ran right downstairs and evaluated who had to go.
The Stern Kiss announcement might have something to do with it.
I thought I was beyond my limit...but then I just picked up a couple more bargains. I think I've accumulated 5 years worth of work in just one year.
Bargains are out there, and it's hard to resist them. But at this point, I'm getting pretty close to having an example of almost every major classic pre-DMD system. I think I'm just missing Williams Sys11 and a classic Bally (Baby Pacman doesn't quite count since the boards are game-specific).
Quoted from arcademojo:I might be able to help you out with the classic bally. You got the one game that has slipped throw my grasp many of times. "Pharaoh". I have tipples of classic bally Lost world, Silver ball Mania and doubles of Jungle Lord, and stern Meteor and Galaxy.
I'm slowly putting pictures of stuff for sale on my FB page. Pins will come after my vid collection is sold.

Pharaoh is a keeper for now, though it certainly needs some TLC. Additionally, the backglass is a loss, as usual with this title. Someone taped it up (poorly) with packing tape when it started to flake off in big pieces, and later followed up with scotch tape. I saw that bgresto remakes them, so I'll probably go that route soon.
I might be interested in a Silverball for the right price, though it's a 5 hr trip for me to Harrisburg.
For anyone itching to get a machine, it looks like the floodgates have been open for the last few days--FS ads popping up everywhere. Must be spring cleaning.
Quoted from wayout440:Y'all know the law of supply and demand, right? So if the supply is driven down by unnecessary hoarding and the demand is high, the prices go up for everyone else. I can forgive those who are actually planning to do something with them. Those who just shove 'em in storage somewhere with no definite purpose, are of no benefit to the hobby IMHO.
Oh, I get it--horders buy everything in sight, wait for prices to rise, then flip 'em.
Quoted from ledge:so whose got the most pins in storage around 'ere?...

Quoted from ledge:speaking of hoarders, im guessing theres those that still have bally/williams 90 dmd pins still NIB?

Quoted from Trekkie1978:Here's a question for everyone.
When you run out of space, but want to add more pins. Instead of selling, has anyone moved a pin to a relative's house? friend's house?
Yup, I did that once for a few weeks before I moved into a bigger place.
Quoted from Trekkie1978:When you guys move your pins to family/friends homes, is it an easy conversation? Do you get much resistance?
I spoke to 2 of my friends about moving my games to their homes, but years down the road. Both were hesitant to say yes, because they were afraid they would break them.
The person that gave one of my games a home for a short time had no problem with it. I simply asked if they had space to store it for a while, they said yes, and there it sat for a while. After I took it out, they even offered to house additional games since they had space they weren't using.
It really all depends on how much space they have and how willing they are to store your stuff.
Whether or not they want to store a playable vs non-playable game is another story, I suppose. In my case, the game wasn't playable yet.
Quoted from ledge:speaking of hoarders, im guessing theres those that still have bally/williams / or whatever 90s dmd pins still NIB?
This just popped up too:

Quoted from thedefog:Just added a new project game. Gotta snatch them when they come up. I definitely didn't need another project right now (still finishing up Pinbot), but when opportunity knocks....
I'm in the same boat. Almost picked up another game earlier this week, but at this point, I either have to get rid of some furniture or some pins.
It's hard to pass up a bargain!
Quoted from thedefog:I'm just about done with the Pinbot refurb, a few more nights and it is complete. Then I have a whole lotta work to do with Rocky & Bullwinkle, cleaning mostly. It all works, just needs to be cleaned badly.
I've been trying to limit myself to working on my Sinbad and Touchdown. Every time I get a new pin in, I jump to it for a short while for a quick cleaning (since I don't want a filthy/grimy/smelly pin inside), some electronics work/troubleshooting, and sealing the backglasses if they need it. It keeps interrupting my primary restoration jobs, lol
