Quoted from pinfarmer:

Maybe they stripped the BOM on the playfield down to pay for upgraded quality on the playfield?

I don't think this was ever about JJP cheaping out on poor quality PFs.. From a purchasing standpoint, at the time, on paper it would have been a premium product for sure...

That said, it seems like many of these issues have been resolved.. although it would be great if there was more transparency and acknowledgement to many valid cases brought up in this thread.

Stern playfields are the best

Uhhh thats a scoop buddy. They blow out on everything, including the InDesTruCtaBlE B/W diamondplate PF's. Theres supposed to be a scoop protector on there (yes I know probably what happened on that game).

Looks like JJP and Mirco finally pulled the artwork back away from the posts on Toy Story 4, which will have a positive effect in regards to the blistering/pooling art issue (as in it might eliminate the problem). Time will tell as the games are delivered and played.

You're dreaming mate .
No scoop protector on my GNR . After almost 1000 games .
And it's perfect .
Downvote me all you want but stop making excuses for Stern .

Then you are lucky. Because the scoop on my friend's GNR standard was blown out to hell by 1000 plays.

I will say the kerry protector helps it a great deal. But yeah, that stern rush scoop is notorious for taking very little abuse and looking like absolute hell.

Gentlemen, one thing you're not taking into consideration is the age of the playfield. The first few hundred were mega shit quality. Maybe one is a newer pf and one is the older one? Something changed. But then we've seen this phenomenon for a few jjps, now.

After reading it again, you said your friend's was a standard. Many of those were garbage.

I wonder what that metal around the inside edge of the scoop does? hmm nah...must be the playfield.

Thats because its so close to the flippers, it gets absolutely pummeled at pretty much max ball velocity like 10,000 times a game

As Haymaker said, there is a Kerry Stair-style protector in the GnR scoop. Yours is already bent up a little from ball strikes.

Stern f*ed up by sending out Rush with no scoop protectors at all.

All scoops suck & get blowed up since the 90s

For every non protected/shitty scoop on rush you get one on DI. Nothing to do with maker.

This scoop and hole (right in front of the flippers) looked like this after 16,000 games totally unprotected (I put mylar on them when I got it to help prevent chipping art). I've also seen a Waterworld where the Dive Hole looked like it had been made with a shovel and didn't have the words or key art left at all lol.
There are good ways and cheap ways to make things, and those don't have much crossover.

Good news for those ordering Toy Story 4.

It was late and I forgot to get photos. JJP took steps to pull back some of the artwork around the critical areas and are placing plastic shim / washers under some of the posts to prevent the clear coat from pooling / puddling up. The clear coat on the JJ games to the naked eye are about 2 times as thick as a stern, and conversly can suffer from clear coat shrinkage.

Of course only time will tell, but the artwork, and quality of the clear coat really pop on this one.

Well I hope that they apply this updated process on the new run of GnR playfields.
